Caterpillar - wool bug
指揮者 musical conductor- finger brandishing person
I love this! How is it pronounced?
人質 ひとじち
person + quality/substance
“Human substance” means a hostage.
単に (たんに)- Simply.
I’ve been waiting to learn this word as I use it frequently while speaking english. Its simply an amazing word.
One I learned recently : 研修医 (けんしゅうい), “medical intern”.
I like how the Japanese word makes sense (研修=training, 医=medical); while I still have no idea to what “intern” actually refers to…
And also 食道 (しょくどう), how I could understand it is esophagus even without the need of a dictionary (given the proper context)
匂う. It can mean to smell good AND to smell bad. What.
No WaniKani-word as far as I know, but I really like 惚れ惚れ (ほれぼれ), admiringly.
Really usefull, if you want to make a compliment.
I would have totally guessed じんしつ without knowing. lol
My favorite word/sentence that I encountered today was in the example sentence :
そんなにが虫を噛みつぶしたような顔をするなよ。
They gave the translation as “Don’t make such a sour face” and I love the as if bitten by an insect part, it envokes such a clear image!
I love that:
- day is sun, and that tomorrow is bright day 明日
- testicles is golden balls
- bright is star+moon
- 話 looks like two mouths chatting
- adult is big person 大人
- fire flowers and fire mountains
I really like 大好き, Big Like. Lol.
Another translation would be “resident” as in a resident physician. Though, residents are sometimes also referred to as interns.
I’ve got a new one: じき, to fix
stab lion in the eye - is to fix
incidentally, the two syllables together mean savage in Polish, dziki
easy one to remember!
目玉焼き
literally “baked eyeballs”
It’s eggs sunny-side up
あおぞら - Blue Sky (Also the name of a wonderful soundtrack from Tokyo Ghoul OST)
