The answer is that I just kept reading and then kept reading and then kept reading… and then i slept for various amounts of time and kept reading and reading. I expected that at some point I would hit a wall and be unable to focus more, and then I just basically never did
I wanted to find my line in the sand for how far I could go in a day, and it took almost the full 24 hours, but I did find it!
with my added stats we’re extremely close to the 24 hour mark, adding taiyousea’s should push us over Someone should check my math though, i’m realizing I cannot be trusted to even add numbers currently
Actually when you take a close look you’ll notice that all the katakana words Kefir is using are words that have been explained to us earlier. It’s just that Coco didn’t get that explanation → doesn’t understand it → can’t give us the kanji for it. (But yeah it’s deliberately confusing)
Looking at the times we tracked, everyone was on fire yesterday!! We all did great!
This is what I imagine I sound like when I try to explain a dream to someone else.
Is it okay if I collect all the totals people posted in individual posts and put the missing ones into the wiki? I want to see it all tallied up
Some errands and chores popped up, so I ended up having less time to read than I would have liked, but I still managed to read three volumes. I’d wanted to read 台所のドラゴン volume 4, but by the end of the day I was running out of time, so I decided on よつばと volume 6 instead.
That was a lot of manga, and I’m missing the complete sentences from novels and video games… Rune Factory my love, here I come
Participating in this challenge taught me that my stamina is higher than I thought it was. While I don’t think I want to read three volumes in a day again, I can definitely do one a day and still be able to do other reading on top of that.
Thank you @taiyousea for coming up with this idea, looking forward to the autumn challenge
I did manage to sneak a few more pages in before midnight teehee I peeked into Vol. 3 of Naruto for 42 extra pages in about 20 minutes, taking my total time to over 5 hours.
This turned out to be such a fun community event, thank you so much for participating and giving it your all It was genuinely so exciting to see us updating in tandem on Natively and then posting here in the thread.
I chose the community goals totally arbitrarily and was worried at first that maybe I’d aimed too high, but I’m literally in awe of how much everyone read today Special praise to @javerend for committing nearly 9 hours to reading omg, @Thubanshee for hitting an amazing 34k charas and making the 10k chara goal look foolish, and @RebBlue for clocking in 10 different sources for this event. This inspires me to increase my personal goals for next time!!
In a few days, when all of the final numbers are added to the Results post, our total stats will become the overall goal for us to beat next time during the Autumn Equinox Readathon on Sunday, September 22nd (though I may take a community vote closer to the event to see if we want to offset the day to Friday, Saturday, or Monday for maximum participation availability)
Same! That’s the most important thing I got out of this Now I don’t get to be a wimp anymore and put off reading because I think I am too tired to read.
About 3.5h into my start and I’ve finished 海のそこ(160p that I had left). I took an 1+h nap and did some social media and chore breaks. Now I’m going to make dinner and then pick up with 気になってる人が男じゃなかった2
Wow, what an interesting challenge. I’m afraid I wasn’t able to get a look in this time around but it seems like a great way to just plough through a bunch of manga lol
This reminds me of like a reading charitythons… get sponsors next time lol!
Sooooo I was a bit over ambitious but I think the real goal for me was just making some progress even if they weren’t finished. Also funny that I read the bonus stuff instead of the main ones
気になってる人が男じゃなかった2 finished! It’s about 7h from when I started. I took an hour break for dinner and I’ve been taking a lot more breaks. Not a Guy is easier than Umi no Soko in some ways, but my concentration is wavering. I’m not sure how much time to actually count this as, but another 110 pages read. Next up: a snack, a shower, and Frieren!
I’ve only got about 3h left of my challenge. I just finished Frieren vol 1. I’m genuinely surprised, but I did not enjoy it. I kept falling asleep while reading, so I accidently ended up taking a longer nap. I’m hoping とんがり帽子のアトリエ goes better. I think it should since I really enjoyed chapter 1 when I started it. Frieren I had read 15 pages of before, but I went and restarted from the beginning since it’s been so long. So that was 188 pages of reading in 3-3.5h of dedicated reading. I had practically no food in my apartment (whoops), so I made a trip to the grocery store for brunch and staples.
Worries a bit about being able to finish Witch Hat in under 3h.
30 pages and 10 minutes later…
Well, it seems my reading speed and concentration is incredibly closely tied with how much I like the work.
I think I’ll definitely be able to finish this volume and I’m hoping I might get close to catching up to where the club is. I’m on page 137 now and I still have about 2h left (end time is 1h 50m from now). I had to take a break for laundry which I think took me about 20-30 min?
I think in addition to my enjoying the series^tm speed buff, I’ve studied a lot of these kanji recently. I went through the whole list of N2 kanji on renshuu.org since I’ve got the jlpt in 2 weeks. With 海のそこ, a lot of the kanji I didn’t recognize were N1 iirc, but probably 80-90% of the Witch Hat kanji are familiar to me.
Wahhh, vol 1 finished!! Super exciting! I’m so glad I have the next vols on hand. I’ll do the time math later. 200 more pages finished. Next goal: first 100 pages of vol 2 in the next 67min!
First reading session: 1 hr 45mins
Material: 不思議駄菓子屋
Pages: 8
Slow and steady with fushigi sweet shop, as I was reading out loud and looking up a lot of words in a paper copy. This chapter feels a little harder than previous chapters, maybe just because the main character works in a hair salon so there are more words I don’t know.
