Durteloni’s Study Log

Week 103. Discovered this months after everyone and am entranced:
How Durteloni feels when studying Japanese.

  • Reading: didn’t realize 歳月の門 was an on-going serie on Satori and I reached the last available episode  Time to try again listening to the Yuyu podcast and study the transcripts ?

  • Grammar: finished chapter 19. This time the kanji section taught me something I wish I had known before: the top radical in the 家 kanji is called u kanmuri, or “u crown.” I had no idea that kanmuri is the name for radicals located at the top of a kanji, and the “u” part comes from the fact that this radical looks like a squashed katakana ウ :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

  • KD Anki deck: last week’s preset optimisation seems to have worked. New kanjis are appearing more frequently, but in smaller numbers, making them easier to learn.

Week 104. Paid homage to polka dots by painstakingly assembling The World of 草間 彌生 jigsaw puzzle.

  • Reading: caught up with 歳月の門 on Satori and gave a shot at the Yuyu podcast. Doing pretty well with the transcript, though still tripping up on kana-only words like かなり and もちろん that I’ve encountered countless times, yet somehow can’t remember

  • Listening: watched the last episode on Speak Japanese Naturally. It’s 台風 season and train services are disrupted. People seemed pretty blasé about the whole thing, even though you hear loudspeakers asking people to evacuate their homes and seek shelter. Can’t imagine the panic this would create in my neighborhood

  • Anki deck: less than 40 new cards remaining on my KD deck!
