That brings us to the end of the volume. And rather coincidentally, the final episode of the anime just aired yesterday. I’m rather hoping they plan to adapt the final bonus volume as well (maybe as a movie?) and perhaps even Byakuya Reboot, but for now that’s it.
This week’s chapter covers up to the end of the anime’s third episode.
On page 173, 35°19’N 139°32’E is about 215m west of the actual location of the Great Buddha. Google’s telling me the precise position is 35°19’0.723"N 139°32’8.388"E. Close enough.
I’m not getting the impression there’s a huge following for this book club, but I guess I should ask: any interest in a spin-off?
Sorry, I was interested at first but after asking one question in the week 1 thread I didn’t keep up with it. I have all the volumes on bookwalker because I think I got them on sale or something? Wasn’t a bad price. Sort of interested in an offshoot but I don’t think I could run it myself.
I’m glad we got to this part before we finished the volume. It’s one of the key memories I have of the early manga, - reminds me a bit of the Statue of Liberty moment in Planet of the Apes. Fun interchange between Senku and Taiju about the effects of the Buddha on the surroundings.
Thanks for nominating Belthazar, and for running the club. It was fun to read some of this in Japanese, but as I mentioned last week I’m not committed enough to read the next 22 volumes.
This one was fun because I went to the great buddha in Kamakura earlier this year on my holiday to Japan. And I’d been to Hakone on my previous holiday
Besides that, I do enjoy the extra exploration we get in this chapter, and having the bigger goal of creating a weapon that can defeat 司 while he tries to stop them
I would be interested in a spinoff club myself, though I’ll say I’ve struggled to find too much to say about any individual chapter. But I like having the structure of a club to actually get me to read it regularly
I’ve forgotten what Hakone is like, but I also have seen some in other mangas.
spin off
I’ve finished vol 2 just now, and I am interested in spin off before I would start vol 3. Discussion for vol 2 as well. yet another series that I liked vol 2 more than 1.
I am not sure if I would read all volumes. I am just more interested in what turns out immediately after.
Waiting for a promotion in any case. (tho an individual volume price is somewhat acceptable.)
I enjoyed discovering this manga! Might read a few more volumes to see where it’s headed, but a bit scared that it might be in a direction I don’t enjoy (violence and gun powder), but in any case not something I wouldn’t prioritize reading now instead of my 積読!
Don’t worry, it’s not that type of manga. This one is generally quite fun and light hearted, lots of cute characters, solving problems, and lots of cool applications of science in the stone age!
