This week’s reading comprises the remainder of the anime’s second episode, plus roughly the first minute and a half of the third (basically, they decided to put the break point on the penultimate page of the chapter rather than the ultimate… perhaps because the manga recaps the final page at the start of the next chapter anyway).

Senku’s brilliance really starts to shine in this chapter. I’ve always liked this concept of arriving in an empty earth-like world with nothing, and thinking about how far you can advance with just the knowledge in your head. I think most of us are immediately and permanently back in the stone age, with the only advantage over stone age man being that we have some knowledge of hygiene and bacteria.
But already we see how Senku not only has amazing science knowledge, but the ability to practically apply that in the world. It’s such an exciting concept for a manga!
As for Tsubasa - it didn’t take long for him to turn from good guy to bad guy! Although I can see his point - the world is idyllic with just the three of them living their basic existence, it’s going to get messy and complicated if lots of people start waking up!
This was a nice chapter - we got some fun scientific bits (千空 explaining the uses of calcium carbonate) and some drama (千空 intuiting very quickly that he needs to be careful with what he says in front of 司 because he wants to keep that last usage as an ace up his sleeve). I did enjoy 司’s monologue about how he wants to ‘purify’ humanity by only reviving the young and living in harmony with nature. But obviously his ideology is kind of ghastly if you think about what that means. Dude straight up killed a defenceless guy just because he vaguely reminded him of someone who was mean to him when he was young
Quite. It feels like they spent the whole year doing nothing but work on the revival fluid. I mean, I guess it’s possible that 100% (or 10 billion%?) of their free time was tied up in acquiring food, and now that Tsukasa has taken that over, it’s freed them up to actually start on Project Bunmei, but yeah.
Prove it how? Senku says you’re not allowed to go back and check. You gonna just ignore Senku like that?
