One of the things I was waiting for in the manga was to see what Senku’s most famous catchphrase was in the original language. Turns out ‘Get excited’ is an uncommon word that I don’t remember coming across before - 唆る. It’s an uncommon kanji too, I learned it on Wanikani on level 52 with just a single vocab word (示唆) that I don’t remember ever seeing again after burning it!
Some interesting names in the original too. Yuzuriha is a kanji that doesn’t even seem to come up when I type her name into my computer - 杠 - had to copy it from a dictionary. And Tsubasa’s family name is Lion King!
The monumental trees website lists the oldest Camphor trees in the world as being in Japan, including this one in Kagoshima that has it’s own Wikipedia page:
大樹 meeting back up with 千空 was fun, and I love the idea that 千空 simply counted the seconds to work out what the date was. Definitely feeling the shonen nature of the series with the proclamation that they’re going to recreate society from the ground up, and it happens to be one of the loftiest goals possible. It’s a good high concept that makes it very easy to sell the series, and I can see why it caught on. Didn’t really get much science stuff in this half of the chapter, but that will come in future weeks
The shot after 大樹 escapes from the stone is great - seeing the garden of stone statues all around him. I also like the detail that 大樹 and 千空 get marks on their faces after escaping the stone
