I’ve been lucky to have the freedom to undergo fairly consistent Japanese self-study as a dedicated hobby recently so as part of getting myself up to a basic everyday knowledge level of kanji I chose to undertake WK as my primary kanji study tool.
I set as a goal for myself to go as fast as reasonably possible as I am generally able to dedicate a few hours a day on most days to focused study. I have also been able to find some time throughout the day and in evenings to complete reviews. I’ve seen on the forums that one year is an achievable (though very challenging) target for reaching level 60 and for the most part I’ve been able to come close to that. I’m currently about 375 days or so in and currently in the process of studying level 59.
I don’t aim to take all lessons as I get them (as with high kanji accuracy the new lessons don’t come uniformly, but in large blocks around mid-level and level-ups), but rather have targeted spacing them so I’m doing approximately the same number of lessons each day as long as it results in all lessons completed by the time the next batch of new content hits according to the SRS schedule. The ‘fast’ levels (43 and onwards) have been challenging as it now averages out to around 40 lessons a day to keep the daily lesson count approximately uniform, versus about half of that before.
That’s impressive! I’m curious about what taking the fast track implies, so is it ok if I ask how many reviews you’re getting daily? Congratulations!
As for daily review count, there were probably 3 phases to this for me.
Firstly, prior to level 25 or so I think I was probably looking at ~100 reviews a day. This was fairly uniform since WK keeps the number of new items per level about equal and I was also trying to keep my daily new lesson count steady. Level 25 (about 6 months in for me) was when items began to reach the burn SRS stage, so the workload began increasing from there.
From that point until level 43, I was probably looking at a median of 120-150 reviews a day, which factors in a now-steady flow of items at the to-burn SRS stage as well which weren’t present for me in the 6 months.
Starting at level 43, WK significantly reduces the number of new radicals (with some levels having no new ones at all) but the kanji and vocab count does not meaningfully change versus earlier levels. Targeting going as quickly as possible, you can now progress through the remaining levels in as short as ~3.5 days, so staying on the fast as possible track essentially doubles your workload. My daily review count since I reached level 43 about 2 months ago has roughly ranged from 200-300.

Thank you for the kind support. I want to emphasize to everyone that I think consistency is really the most important thing to try to achieve. Find a cadence of reviews and new material that works the best for your time and mental capacity and try to stick to it as closely as possible.
I’ll note that my schedule has resulted in me being significantly further ahead in kanji proficiency that in other areas of the language; lvl60 in WK seems to imply approximately high JLPT N2 level of kanji knowledge and low N2 for vocab but my grammar is probably mid N4 at best. I do find that reading is a significantly more pleasant experience now than say 6 months ago; I very rarely need to look up words and my challenge typically is around deciphering compound phrases in sentence structure or being clear on which verb conjugation is being used.
As I just reached lvl60, my WK workload should soon decrease to maintenance level and I plan to shift the extra time I’ll have towards reading and immersion listening.
I’m doing basically the same as you, high kanji knowledge relative to anything else in Japanese, grammar at mid N4 as well haha.
Our reading experience/situation is probably roughly the same? I felt most words I can guess the meanin, but you are ahead on that.
Same plan going ahead. Finish WK and use the extra time to focus on grammar and reading. I was considering slowing down WK and focus earlier on grammar, but at this point I just want to be done with new lessons on WK and just do reviews. I imagine that would be a huge mental load off my mind.
