Do you do all your reviews before your lessons?

I’ve hit a bit of a wall recently.

Using reorder omega, my rhythm for WK thus far has been (for every new level):

  • Immediately do all radical lessons
  • Do reviews until 0 (and daily reviews are < 100)
  • All Kanji lessons
  • Vocab lessons while Kanji progress to Guru

However recently I can’t seem to get my reviews down. It’s sitting at about 800 total and 60 a day currently. So I haven’t done a new lesson in a while.

What was your general approach to WK? Did you have “rules” about when you tackled new content?

Is it better to just do 5-10 lessons a day and as many reviews as I can handle?

I’m worried additional lessons will just make the review pile bigger…

Interested to hear what works for you.

My general rule of thumb is when I have below 120 Apprentice items I do my lessons, 15.

120 is my hard cap, my ideal is around 100, given that if i pick up the item quickly, it should cycle out in about 4-5 days, 7 with weekends or off review days.

I do around 100-150 reviews on average in a day, but i study multiple times a day.

Also take a grain of salt also, I’m level 6, so I can’t say this will be what’s best for you. I also don’t prioritize radicals which lessons like you do.

That sounds like a smart approach, total apprentice items might work as a better indicator than daily reviews.

I like to get radicals done early to unlock the additional kanji lessons, though this isn’t as important if I’m not actually managing to do lessons :frowning:

As a personal preference, since I’m still learning previous level’s vocab with this level’s radical it helps keep my lessons diverse, and less boring, for me.

To not overwhelm with new lessons, can try tracking your apprentice, and add 5 lessons and see if it starts to feel overwhelming, if it does, pull back a little.

I complete all my reviews before starting new lessons to avoid getting crushed under the weight of my 200 apprentice cards. Its almost like a fail safe? If i don’t make it through my reviews then i can’t add any extra lessons because I’m so busy.

In other words, I’m still doing all my reviews and they take priority over new lessons. Except when i get radicals and kanji or i could run out of new lessons.

I do all my available reviews in the morning before doing lessons. I decrease my lessons if I see my accuracy falling until I can get it back to an acceptable range, ~90% for me.

I like this as an approach. I’m also kind of nervously looking for tips people have on keeping it all manageable as I’m on my third attempt!
