I’m a new user. During reviews, we are switching between the meaning (type in english) and reading (type in hiragana). It gets quite confusing and 20% of the time, I’m typing the wrong one.
Is there an option, perhaps through a plugin/script/app to do all meaning (type in english) first and then do all reading (japanese).
What I am using is reading-then-meaning (both for the same item, also known as “back to back” behavior), because I feel like its the most natural for me (read the japanese as japanese reading, then get the meaning). However, I think your use case is also possible with the following script setup, just set “back to back behavior” to “disabled” and “prioritize” to “meaning” in Reorder Omega (but I cannot test this right now, so this is just a guess!)
To access these settings for Reorder Omega, after installing all the prerequisites, go here (itll appear as a new option “Scripts Settings” under your Profile menu):
Note that Reorder Omega will (like most userscripts people provide here) require Wanikani Open Framework, and for both you will need Tampermonkey or a similar userscript solution as well as switch on some settings (like developer mode) depending on your browser (the last link should have all the details).
Word of caution - back-to-back removes interleaving (seeing the same item twice per review), so it MAY weaken SRS success. It just feels so much more natural to me personally.
I recommend you try to get your original idea to work first, and experiment with other setups including mine second. Levels <10 are GREAT for experimenting how Wanikani works best for you! Have a lot of fun!
The colour at the top, as you pointed out, correlates with item type (radical (blue), kanji (pink), or vocab (purple)).
The colour below the item where it tells you whether the reading or meaning is being asked for will be either black (reading is being asked for) or grey (meaning is being asked for).
Hi, I’m not sure if this will help but I noticed that during “extra study,” it automatically reviews the items back to back. I’m not super techy so I like that I don’t need to add any scripts to use this feature.
