Some of you have already noticed (@Leebo @trunklayer) that Discourse is editing out quotes from your post if you quoted the entire preview post. I think this is a pain because it removes important context. Apparently there is a site setting, so perhaps @viet or @oldbonsai can disable that and give us our full quotes back.
Yeah, this is similar to, but more annoying to me personally than, the thing where it doesn’t show who you replied to when you click the “reply” button on an individual post if you are the next poster after them. That one has led to hundreds of newbies deleting and re-posting because they thought the forum bugged out.
Discourse should get the message that just because a post comes after another one doesn’t mean it’s a direct reply to it, so when it is actually a direct reply it would be nice to make that clear.
I’m creating a topic on the main Discourse forums suggesting that right now.
This post is a test. Disregard.
Do you mind if I post an image of the exact text from your reply to me? I’m using it to demonstrate the lack of “reply avatar”, but I wanted to check first.
It would be this:
Yeah, that’s fine.

I’ve disabled the setting discussed in the link of the original post. Give it a try now.
Is this test really fine though? TEST.
This is also a test
@viet It seems like there are also settings that could fix the issue @Leebo mentioned above. Fixing that would be a huge improvement.

Try it now. I’ve disabled the two mentioned settings
Seems to be working as described. I can tell right from your post. Thanks again! Have a nice holiday!
Oh, nice. I do like this.
OMG IT LOOKS SO MUCH BETTER NOW. GJ TEAM.
I think the last related setting is suppress_reply_when_quoting
. I believe turning this one off will make it so that replies still show the avatar of who you’re replying to, even if you also quoted that user. This one is useful to disable for when you’re quoting multiple people in the same post, so that it’s still clear who you’re replying to specifically.
Okay. I’ve disabled this one just now.

Okay. I’ve disabled this one just now.
Great, thanks!
You guys are heroes.
