Descent of the Durtle into eGoooott - NOW AT B8!

My first time contributing to this! Maybe I’m overthinking, but I wanted to look through for other things that changed during the recent overhaul aside from the pit kanji, and then I saw that this kanji (控) was the only kanji whose reading changed from an onyomi to a kunyomi.

So I took a look at wanikani page. The meaning is abstain, which made me think about how a regular durtle said something to the effect of we’re supposed to be abstaining for three days while waiting for koichi to rise again… The durtholic church is so strict.

And then the mnemonic for the reading (ひか) has something to do with the hicatee turtle. So maybe koichi will rise again as a hicatee durtle. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I’d be curious to see if anyone knows the old mnemonic when the reading for the kanji was taught as こう.

edit: misspelled hicatee
