My first time contributing to this! Maybe I’m overthinking, but I wanted to look through for other things that changed during the recent overhaul aside from the pit kanji, and then I saw that this kanji (控) was the only kanji whose reading changed from an onyomi to a kunyomi.

So I took a look at wanikani page. The meaning is abstain, which made me think about how a regular durtle said something to the effect of we’re supposed to be abstaining for three days while waiting for koichi to rise again… The durtholic church is so strict.

And then the mnemonic for the reading (ひか) has something to do with the hicatee turtle. So maybe koichi will rise again as a hicatee durtle. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I’d be curious to see if anyone knows the old mnemonic when the reading for the kanji was taught as こう.

edit: misspelled hicatee

Why don’t we ask “egooot? Must be her nickname for eGoooott. I was half expecting to hear burning battle screams and laser beams but admittedly I did not listen to every clip.

That sounded something like えがt…

“えぐー”? What do you think this is? French? :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, I just learnt that one recently. Thought it was the oddest sort of kun’yomi to introduce as the primary reading. Especially when it uses a breed of turtle I’d literally never heard of before as the reading mnemonic. I mean, I practically had to use the reading as a mnemonic for the turtle.

Well, that’s a remarkable similarity, considering that literally every Google search result for the full “eGoooott” is either this thread or the spoiler thread…

Y’all, eGoooott is pronounced with a Tokyo accent.

They should use more Japanese in their mnemonics. Why not 光・光る as the mnemonic?

I actually do that for myself sometimes, when the word sounds already like the one of which I know.

That‘s exactly what I thought when I wrote that :yum:

I know all the old passwords by heart now, but the new one, I haven’t memorized how many “o’s”

If you’re referencing the first post, you should tag @TheMusicalNinja

But you should use the wiki of the second post, it has a direct link with the password below it in the B4 section

And I manage to find it in the second post, was copy-able there! =D

I had a feeling. There’s a 50/50 chance, so of cause we always get it wrong
I usually try to avoid pronouns, but it just sounded to impersonal without one =P

The proliferation of Liphiarlyntm avatars helps a fair bit in that regard. :slightly_smiling_face:

In [b4] it takes 4 months to solve this layer.

Isn’t this subbed entirely wrong? I remember watching this exact video with entirely more funny subbing.
