Day 554 finally hit level 60

I finally did it! This is my first post on here and it has been a looooong ride. I have been waking up in the middle of night for a year and a half straight just to not pile up flashcards. I am 29 years old and work full time and find time to do these flashcards secretly while trying to rush my job before the next hour hits with a surplus of new reviews to do. I have smoked or drank everyday and still could make it to level 60 while impaired daily. If I can do it… you DEFINITELY can do it too. I will confess, everytime I get a kanji wrong (except a few times on accident), I will back out and restart the whole review. I know it’s basically “cheating” but I rather get through it as fast as possible and be exposed to all the kanji and vocabulary and radicals so that I can build intuition quicker. Also, today is day 554 in a row of doing Wanikani, but I did have about 8 to 10 days that I did not do reviews because i used the vacation mode while traveling on vacation. Other than that, it has been EVERY SINGLE DAY. I am not done yet.. I still have to finish level 60 and burn all the previous cards. I am also currently doing the writing textbook course ‘Remembering the Kanji’ by James Heisig that i started in January this year and am at about ~550 Kanji that I can write from memory. They contain the same 2,000+ Kanji that wanikani teaches so I will see all of them again. I have a JLPT N5 certificate already but have failed the N4 twice. I am taking it again this year in December and I feel confident I will succeed. I finished my first video game in full Japanese a few weeks ago also due to WaniKani’s help. I beat ‘Dragon Quest VII Reimagined’ made by the G.O.A.T, Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball creator) on the Nintendo Switch 2 that I bought while visiting Japan for the first time 3 months ago. I was able to make Japanese friend and stay at their apartment in the heart of Osaka for FREE, all because i could speak with them in japanese and text on LINE App with Kanji and kana (All japanese people have LINE). They helped me purchase a Multilingual Switch 2 (Japanese Switch 2 has restricted access outside of japan). It took me over 100+ hours to complete the main story and read all the dialogs in the game. And I mean ALL DIALOGS. It was painful but skyrocketed my reading ability. Now, I’m gonna chill out and let my brain rest a bit and play Mario Kart World until I finish level 60 in about a week hopefully. Anyway, good luck to everyone! Never give up! 頑張ります!

Congrats on hitting lvl 60

Thank you! We made it to the top 2%

Congrats!! you earned that Mario Kart XD

Haha ikr! It’s fun. One of the few games in japanese i can play with my friends who don’t know any japanese

UPDATE: As of last night I Guru’d 100% of the final level 60. Now I am burning the rest of my reviews.
