Thank you, I’ll pass these on!
It’s also been a constant annoyance for me, too. A couple of months ago, I suggested on this thread that words like this should have な or に added in cases where Wanikani only accepts adjective or adverb versions as answers, but it didn’t really get picked up. I’ve encountered several other words like this since, and they all tend to turn into leeches for me.
Yeah, I agree with this! It’d be a pretty big change though because there are a lot of these types of vocab.
招待する accepted “to incite” as an answer. I feel like that should be on the block list
@Mods
Thanks! I added “to incite” and “to incite someone” to the block list.
@Mods
This should probably not be allowed
Good point! It looks like it’s close enough to the meaning “attach” to get through. I’ll get it added to the block list, thanks!
Hi, I have a couple bits of vocab I’d like to request!
I found them recently and noticed that wanikani has the kanji for them, but doesn’t include the vocab, so I thought I’d request it
彼方 - かなた - beyond
主人公 - しゅじんこう - protagonist
I just came across the あゆ reading of 歩 and checked wk to see if there are any vocab for that reading. There are not
Could a vocabulary item be added for the あゆ reading? Like 歩む
The vocab item for 卵 suddenly started asking me for the Onyomi reading, but doesn’t even have an mnemonic for it.
Are you using an app? You may need to clear the database due to a bug in the API that got fixed a little while ago
Couldn’t あったまる also be added as a valid reading answer for 温まる seeing as 温かい and 温める accept the あった equivalent?
Yeah, I’m using Smoldering Durtles. Do you know what exactly this bug did? I just burned 卵, so if that was somehow the only item affected, I won’t even need to clear the database.
IIRC it caused all kanji to only accept onyomi readings. So the couple dozen kanji that normally want kun were affected.
Why is 雌 on level 59, when 雄 is level 29? They’re very much a word pair that should be learned together. It’s not the radicals either. Makes no sense to me to put them on different levels, never mind this far apart from each other.
(This is subjective, but I feel like I’ve seen both used pretty often, defending the relatively early level placement. Though they’ve mostly been written in kana.)
Just learned 節目 on wk, the mnemonic is all about seasons and eyes but doesn’t mention that ~目 as a suffix has a meaning of ~point, and 節 also has a meaning of point/occasion.
It wouldn’t take much to add an explanation that point is a possible meaning of 目, and I think it would improve the meaning explanation instead of just asking the user to remember ‘season eye.’
雄 is commonly encountered in 英雄, that may be the reason.
Is it possible to add上映 and 上映中 to the vocab in Wanikani? I know 上演 is a wanikani vocab and I keep confusing it with 上映 which I know from outside WK, but I think would also be a useful word to introduce.
Another vocab suggestion
次元 - dimension
My Suggestions Additions (New words) - 気まぐれ (きまぐれ) - 堂々 (どうどう) - 自問自答 (じもんじとう) - 野良猫 (のらねこ) - 旺盛 (おうせい) - 懸念 (けねん) - 猛暑 (もうしょ)
