I have a terrible memory as well.
But I trust that I will learn things eventually after enough exposure.

This is exactly the thread I need to see in my last few days of level 20. ![]()
But, yeah, getting stuck can happen. I know I still have several items that I’ll fail for a while, then get familiar with enough to get them up to Master or so and then drop back down to Apprentice. There’s still some kanji that I know, and I know that I know them, but when I am doing reviews I think it’s another one and miss the first one that has that one in it.
But all of that is just window dressing - the important things are that you’re learning and not giving up. As long as those two things remain true, you’ll get there in the end! It’ll just be on a schedule that picks itself out for you rather than an following a specific plan.
I just got to the other side of this. I blazed through the first 22 levels then a cross country move and work change led to me barely doing anything for 5 months and having 2000 reviews in the queue.
What got me out of it was planning a trip to Japan which brought back some motivation.
I then set a plan of doing no new lessons until my apprentice level items were under 100 and doing 100 reviews a day. It took months, but eventually I caught up and now I am at level 23 with a lot of stuff burned so the rest of the journey should not get worse than that point.
For me setting a habit and having a motivation reward broke me out of the slump. Just wanted to share this so you know you are not alone in having a slow point and you can get to the other side of it if when you find your footing.
Best of luck!
