Oh wow, that’s great to hear ![]()
Back when I was new to reading manga in Japanese and was making the move from ABBC to BBC, I decided to read through Saint Tail in Japanese. I knew the material well, so the goal was to increase my reading speed by not slowing down for lookups.
That was the latter half of 2019. In the following six years, I’ve considered re-reading the series, maybe trying a speed-read.
I recalled there was a physical shinsouban release some time back, as seen in this random eBay listing photograph:
I was fairly certain there was no digital shinsouban, but I decided to check and see. And sure enough, no digital.
And naturally the original release wouldn’t have been updated, which is confirmable by checking this section of volume one on Kobo:
Wait a minute, my copy of volume one is a little smaller than 73MB:
Time to re-download the series. And the result is…the same file size.
Maybe they updated it, but when I redownload I still get the smaller size? Let me download the preview, which contains 31 pages (out of 193 total).
That’s a pretty big size for just 16% of the pages.
How about if I compare pages of the full download and the preview side-by-side?
(Can you guess which is which?)
The purchased version (at 155% size) is like a blur filter when overlaying the preview:
Back when I bought this, I had one Kobo account that I was switching between being a US account and a Japan account. Eventually, that broke things, and I had to contact customer support to fix it, then I created a dedicated Japan store account. I wonder if these purchases being on my US store account impacts the quality of the download, or if the same would happen if I switched it over to a Japan account.
It would be 4,158 円 to re-buy the series.
Maybe I’ll hold off on a re-read for the moment…
