As we all know, sometimes the wanikani team updates content, including changing the meaning of certain items – whether because the meanings were incorrect, the original meanings were not as frequently used as the new meanings, or any other reason.
While I appreaciate every single update and the team for trying to make wanikani better, this sometimes creates a problem: items I already have on a Master or Enlightened (or even Burned) levels suddenly don’t accept the meaning I learned them with.
My suggestion is adding a feature, either during the reviews themselves or on the dashboard, that says something along the lines of “this item’s meaning was changed on [date]”, and allow the user to choose to take the item back to Apprentice/Guru to relearn with the new meaning.
I would like this to be considered, and maybe if anyone else has anything to share on the topic, it could be helpful
Currently it just says “We updated/changed the meaning, please take a look at the (kanji) page” but I would prefer the option to have a hyperlink right there so I don’t have to move out of the review mode. I find it breaks my concentration while I’m reviewing, and if I could have the option to only move that vocab/kanji back down/reset it right as it happened it would be so much nicer and efficient.
I would also like the ability to “downgrade” specific items, but for different reasons…
Sometimes I feel like I got something right just through sheer luck/guessing. Or maybe I got the meaning partially right (like “duty” instead of “sense of duty”). In either case, it feels like I should have gotten it wrong.
I use double-check, so I could theoretically undo and mark it as incorrect, but I have a nasty habit of hitting enter as soon as I see green.
I agree with this. Why can’t I send back an enlightened item to apprentice??? I can do it with burned but not anything else? When I accidentally mis click and it gets put into enlightened queue, why should I have to wait 6 months for the item to reappear?
