Burn cards early

After a long hiatus, I’ve returned to Wanikani. I reset my level to 3 (was previously at 19) so I could get back into the swing of things. It was the right move, but it’s come with its own headache.

I’m moving at a fast pace through these early levels, but the reviews are starting to get burdensome. Many of these basic cards are just a time-suck – specifically, any of the katakana cards (コンビニ、デパート), some repetitive vocab (男の人、男の子) and a handful of the radicals as well.

I wish I could burn these manually instead of spending an hour each day practicing the meaning of テレビ. (No shade to beginners – everyone’s gotta go through it)

Any way for the development team to allow users to manually burn cards? Maybe it could be a special feature that’s only allowed for those who reset their levels.

Just a thought. Curious to hear what others think.

You could either skip those vocab lessons or use the Item Filter userscript to auto-pass them in the background - they’d not be burned early but you’d never see them in review sessions.

Maybe try to set the “Synonym” to something short like “X”.

When I was learning radical for treasure I was lazy and didn’t really want to write “Treasure” every time I see X. So I set X as synonym, because I still know the meaning, and also can breeze through it.

Maybe similar approach will help with words you already know.
