Breadth or Width Strategy?

Hello All,

Here is the thing - at 55 years old, this journey is hard. after moving stuff up the mountain, when review pop up I get things sliding down. So my question to those with experience - should I first make everything “perfect” (just dwell in level 3 until everything is burned) or should I advance with new levels and let things move up and down and up and down.

Thanks,

Ariel

You should definitely just move on, there is a reason why you only need to guru (not burn) 90% of the kanji of a level in order to level up.

Breadth and width are the same thing!

Depth Vs breadth is the option

Breadth wins all the time for me, I’d rather have familiarity with 80% of a piece of text than know just 40% of the same thing perfectly

Less to look up, easier to infer meanings on stuff you don’t know

Breadth for sure. Think of it like English. I do not understand molecular biology, but when I read a news article about it I can still read it and understand it mostly.

Same for most languages, it’s better to get a broad understanding than know a few words very well

You just need to learn to just let it go. Some items will be harder to learn and will need more repetitions before they move up the SRS-ladder until burn. That’s how it is for everyone. Don’t sell yourself short! You’re just starting out after all.

Also, waiting for things to burn will mean months of waiting and for what? I have no idea how long that will make it take for you to finish WK, but I’m expecting years upon years. It’s neither useful nor reasonable at the end of the day. ^^’
