Boomerang pants?

I came across this sentence while learning the vocab 曲線:

ブーメランパンツから出てるコウイチのおしりの曲線…いいね！

And I’m so intrigued - anyone have any idea why the Japanese word for Speedos/swim briefs is boomerang pants?

I’d never looked close enough at anything Speedo’s to really notice the logo.

But it’s possible that the name came from Speedo’s logo and then people didn’t realize that was the origin since they are roughly that shape.
