Big Big Returns - Anyone Else?

This just gave me some serious motivation, thank you!!

I’m just commenting to say keep it up! I’ve been on and off WK a few times, started learning in 2019. Life just has a way of coming in between studying and I wasn’t able to pace myself so I hurried through the levels too much. Most of the times I did a stint of a few months (or a year) of learning, and then did not do anything for months! I’ve never reset because I used Flaming Durtles (and later Smouldering Durtles) which made it easier to just do the reviews of early levels first.

I’m ready to get back into it now, after more than a year of inactivity. I’m still considering how to set it all up this time, which is how I found this thread, too. The most useful thing I would like is a mass resurrect option for a few levels, just to see how that goes. Guess I’ll have to scour the forum for that!

Anyhow, good luck and keep up the good work!

I think my heatmap might look a lot like yours! I tried setting it up like how I had it before (with WK Open Framework and WK Heatmap) but all I get is a heatmap showing only an empty 2026. Could you tell me how you’ve made it work for you?

EDIT: I didn’t check the lessons overview, I’ve still got that one, I’m guessing that’s the one you’ve showed here. I read up on it; seems like the heatmap for reviews won’t work, unfortunately.

Thanks for coming in and sharing! I am still keeping it up so far—at a 55 day streak and have been just really enjoying all the new words coming in handy for studying. About 3 days from completion of the level! I have been using the 3rd party app Wanilog to see projections of when I can make it to certain levels and it has been highly motivating! Best of luck as you get back into it as well! If you find anything useful, please share!

We have somewhat similar timelines!

I started in Oct 2019, right after my 24th birthday. By 2021, two annual subscriptions later, I had reached level 25 and passed the N5. Got a lifetime membership soon after, and peaked at level 29 pre-reset.

I was in my home country all this time, but in 2022 I started a Master’s degree in the US, and so I decided to go on vacation mode “for a month or so”, to reduce the stress of settling in.

Well suffice it to say I did not touch WaniKani till Jan 2026, not long after my 30th birthday. What finally got me going again was the fact that I had tickets to Japan this April, and I wanted to refresh as much of my Japanese knowledge as I could before the visit. The first 7 levels actually helped me recognize quite a lot of real life kanji!

I’m hoping to get to level 60 by the end of 2027, and to clear at least N3!

P.S. Since vacation mode preserves streaks, I still have a 368 day streak at time of writing

Just came back from break since November. Cleared the 2600 something queue in 3 weeks and got my first 0/0 since 6 months today. :durtle_noice:

Hello all, it’s me from the future. I was Level 16 when I made this post and now I’m about to level up to 24 (in 44 minutes). The creation of this post and hearing from you all has given me serious motivation. Tutoring is going smoothly and I am deeply enjoying the new vocab that I’ve learned which has definitely come in handy as I’m learning new grammar.

Keep up the studying! (80 day streak over here! Wild!)

Fellow slow learner here! Taken a lot of vacation through the years, been tracking my progress in the Artemis III thread latetly. Maybe some of y’all can join and we can get some momentum goin.
