I’d like to join. I have the book and have read it (a number of times) before and plan to read it again along with the group; have not started rereading this time yet.

Can someone please update me to reading, just starting now!
Any idea what the reading pace is going to be for this first book? Ordering online looks like I wouldn’t get the book until near the end of the month – will the group be finished with it by then?
My friends and I have started a new weekend activity, and with that activity comes a butload of crunching numbers and decision making(my most enjoyed thing about games really), and I’ve been distracted for the last 2 weeks or so. I’ll start participating later in the week, when I catch up with my WK reviews and also with the book.

I think it was set to be 2 weeks for the first chapter, then a chapter a week.
Don’t know if this is even the place to ask this, but could someone roughly give me a good WaniKani level to start reading The Girl Who Leapt Through Time? I was thinking about buying it but don’t want to be looking up every other word I come across.
You’re gonna have to do that a lot either way if you haven’t really read much in Japanese before, it isn’t really a wanikani thing, its just a foreign language thing. Reading is difficult and they’ll have words in only kana that you’ll know only in kanji that you’ll look up and then feel stupid afterwords, they’ll use particles you wouldn’t have thought of being used like that, they’ll have kana only words that you’ll never have seen before, and kanji that you’ve never seen before.
the good news is, the more you read, the better you get, but the first time is always a struggle, so don’t put your first time off because you’re worried about a struggle, pick something easier than your target and work your way up. You’ve gotta struggle eventually, and the faster you do that, the faster you’ll be proficient.
To add a little to this, the levels on WaniKani are quite arbitrary with regard to the application of the knowledge. So you will definitely have gaps in your knowledge when you get to reading material in Japanese. Additionally one’s grammar proficiency, vocabulary size, knowledge of idioms, etc play a huge role in whether something is going to be a challenge. So one could wait until level 60 before starting to read (not recommended), and they will still have trouble because there may be holes in their Japanese knowledge and because they are still new to reading in Japanese. So in short, your question is unanswerable because it varies on each individual’s reading experience ability and knowledge of Japanese. My advice is if you intend on reading the book, buy it; if it’s too hard to read through now, read something easier and come back to it at a later time.

Reading comprehension (and so therefore listening comprehension as well) has always been a huge roadblock for me, so this group is a miracle for me. Huge thanks to @jprspereira for creating the club, as well as all of the people who have been helping answer questions on the discussion thread. This is really an invaluable resource and a huge help.
