Beginner Japanese Book Club // Coming Soon: The Way of the Househusband

Yep it does! I ordered my Aria copies through there, the primary address needs to be a JP address, but you can go to settings and add additional addresses and change the delivery address at checkout when you’re buying things ^^

As of 13 October, when the next book might be starting, I’ll be level 23 on WK and I will have almost finished Genki 1. Would I be at an appropriate level to join this club? I’m assuming not but I’d love to find out otherwize!

If it help – I’ll join in for Natsume anyway and see if I can keep up ^w^

I have no prior knowledge in Japanese and I’ll be level 14 in October
Don’t ask about my grammar studies :eyes:

wow, good luck!

Uh… you might want to, like, quicly skim through some of imabi or something maybe?

Don’t worry, it’ll work out
Somehow :v:

Good luck with that.

By the way, are you still planning to run that book and create all the chapter threads? If so, you might want to make a home thread in the next week or so. If not, we’ll need another sacrifice volunteer.

OH MY GOD :joy:

My favorite manga for free.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this is appropriate for the book club. :sob:

And Planetes is still there! That’s right, I did it! Number 5, are you kidding me?

Thanks :stuck_out_tongue:

I am still more than happy to do it, but if there are any other volunteers who won’t have two weeks of travel in the middle then they would be a better shout  otherwise people might have to put up with one or two slightly early thread releases.

If there are no other volunteers then I’ll get the home thread up next week. I can’t believe it’s so soon

please tell me everything I’ve done wrong if/when I do!

I don’t mind doing the threads, but I also don’t mind having earlier posted threads if you do them either, so I’m here if you need me c:

If you go next, does that mean @jprspereira has to go after that so it’s symmetrical?

Well now we’re in a politeness standoff :stuck_out_tongue:

But if you’re genuinely happy to do them that would be great. I’m just concerned that at some point I’ll get to a hotel and be completely unable to connect…

This made me laugh

Hahah I’d be glad to do them for you then, I enjoy it ^^

Is this your try to get me back to the book club? :eyes:

Get me back? Was I ever here? :joy:

I haven’t used Genki, but it could be tough with only most of Genki I. I imagine you’d be better off getting at least partway through Genki II, but I can’t really say.

Have you read through the sample pages for the manga? That could give you a better idea.

Thanks for sending me this! I think you might be right though. I can understand most of it, but it’s a bit slow so I won’t get much enjoyment out of it. I’ll read along with the book after that though!

I remember reading the first book years ago and think “wow, this is weird”. My Japanese wasn’t great at the time so I might have missed something but still, what with the drool thing. (Them scissors skills though)

Yep, I like it because they don’t treat it as something weird. It’s a pretty straight-forward romcom other than that.
Really liked the art, and mostly the atmosphere that the author always gets out in his works.

I need to relearn a LOT of Japanese. A book club would be an excellent place to start! Not sure how to sign up, though.
