🌌 Artemis III: Back to the moon! - level 60 in autumn 2027

I have reached level 20. So I’m in the next phase called ā€œLeft the Earth’s atmosphereā€.

2/3 more to go until level 60.

Alright, lvl 33. Things are moving along nicely. In the last few weeks I’ve changing my focus to listening, and boy is it difficult  I can barely understand very beginner content.

Funnily enough, most of the new words I’m finding in my readings have kanjis that currently are in the 31-38 range, so I’m actually learning a lot of new stuffs. On the other hand, I’ve barely found any word that uses kanji in the 40s

I’m starting now at level 10! See you on the moon :sparkles: Liftoff :sparkles:

I would say that the advice that WK has diminishing returns after ~L35 has less to do with there being no kanji worth learning in the higher levels (the common word 髪 is L44), but more to do with the idea that by that point, you probably know how to learn kanji, and might be better off learning new kanji as you come across them in native material (by the time I got to L44, I already knew 髪 from exposure, so maybe I could have stopped WK and learned new kanji as I went, rather than wasting time reviewing 髪 in WK’s srs).

Personally, I’m too lazy to add new kanji from my reading to a custom Anki deck or anything like that, so I just keep doing WK because I still see kanji I don’t know when I’m reading novels.

Wanikani ā€œtaughtā€ me 酷ひどい a few weeks ago at level 54. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a piece of native media that didn’t use that word in some capacity. And then at the same time there are now at least a few things every level that I have to do a google image search for because I have no conception of them in English - stuff like hollyhock, brocade, and horse chestnut. Late level WK is just a pain.

I’m back, this time with numbers!

For those keeping track, I’ve done more reviews so far this year than every previous year except 2019 and 2023. Those years are notable because:

  1. 2019 was the year I hopped straight into WK and bought lifetime.
  2. 2023 was the year I passed the JLPT N5.

My goal remains to have 36,500 lessons completed at the end of this year and to pass the N3 in December.

Year: Reviews/Lessons
2019: 14,656 / 1,143
2020: 13,054 / 175
2021: 10,677 / 570
2022: 5,114 / 9
2023: 19,447 / 904
2024: 8,514 / 38
2025: 10,816 / 824
|2026: 13,134 / 751 (Pace: 26,300 / 1,500)

can you taste it? i have ~+~entered the moon’s exosphere~+~

Yay! Finally made it to Level 26! Managed to keep my Level 25 vocab from piling up too, so hopefully this one goes a bit faster.

I am having the issue of a ton of reviews hitting right before bedtime. I’ve started experimenting with doing a few lessons in the morning, a few at lunch, and the rest after dinner/before bed. This seems to be helping somewhat. I’m trying to find a time where I can get a bunch of reviews to do during my lunch break, but I’m starting to think that would require getting up in the middle of the night. Anyone figure this out?

it will technically slow you down in the short term, but if reviews right before bed aren’t fun, save em for the morning, imo.

Yeah what I’m trying to do is to get more digestible ā€œchunksā€ of reviews throughout the day. Goal is to have sets of reviews I can get through during short breaks in the day rather than having to invest 30-60 minutes in the morning and/or night.

For example, I did all my reviews before bed last night and woke up to over 60 reviews. I only have like 10 reviews total during the day but then another 60+ come in at night. I’m trying to not have this ā€œdead zoneā€ with no reviews during the day.

Right, what I’m saying is that to get more digestible chunks, you need to artificially do the chunking now so that that same chunking will be naturally presented to you later. So don’t do all 60 reviews right when you wake up, but do do what you consider a digestible amount.

The goals should still be to do all your reviews within a day, if that’s what you’re doing currently, of course, so that you don’t build up a backlog.

Ah gotcha. I’ll have to adjust the user script so I get back to back reviews so I don’t end up with a bunch of half responses.

You can also use the ā€˜wrap up’ button when doing reviews. That way you can wrap up your review session early. It gives you a max of 10 reviews which will include the ā€˜half-done’ ones.

I reached level 21 now.

Level 17!

Hit level 19 tonight! One more level to leave the atmosphere… Nice and steady, no backlog (I’ll get 19 vocab tomorrow!)

I think I levelled up 4 times since the time I posted here, eheh :sparkles:

41! I’m in 天国

Level 59. One more to go.

I think they pushed back the moon mission to 2028. It might even get pushed to 29.

Level 36

the 30s levels arent so bad.
