Yep! What Alvinael said. Instead of just clicking on start lessons, I go into “Advanced” and select the radicals and kanji to learn first then go back to do the vocab later. This lets you level up faster to unlock more kanji since vocab doesn’t “count” towards unlocking levels. For those who have been studying Japanese for a while before joining WaniKani and already know a fair amount of vocabulary and kanji, it helps decrease the time spent on material they already know. However, if you’re new to Japanese or just struggle reading written Japanese, don’t feel bad going slower or sticking with WaniKani’s defaults. There’s no such thing as going too slow or doing it “wrong.”
You want to do all your radicals and kanji as soon as you unlock them. Yes it can be a bit challenging but you have to do it this way. Then I think in about 3 hours they will appear in your queue again so hopefully you did learn them.
Then in about [8 hours, 1 day, 2days] they will appear again and hopefully you learned them.
Also, you can count the extras you learned today as eligible for the lessons you will do tomorrow. So if you did 10 extra today, you can avoid 10 tomorrow.
And with this super secret method you can accelerate your progress so long as you are willing to sacrifice some sleep just to level up a teensy bit faster. As someone who did this, I can comfirm the sleep is worth more.
You also have to do your vocab lessons because they reinforce the kanji, but if you already know them its okay to skip. I don’t know them so I have to learn them.
The point is not to go as fast as possible because a lot of people do this then become overwhelmed and fail, but to develop a stable speed where you actually remember the content.
Happy 日曜日 everyone. Another week, another レベルアップ to “lucky” no. 十三。Vocab quantity for this level seems to be a bit more manageable with like 20 less words than the last two levels so hopefully this week goes a bit more smoother. Can’t believe we’re already in February now.
As always, hope you have a great Sunday and see you in another week!
The progress pics as always are below (I’m noticing the wanikani stats level up bar is getting wider and wider every week).
Lvl’ed up to lvl 5 this morning.
One kanji made me lose 1 day but pretty happy with the pace (~10days). Vocabulary and kanji tends to stick in my memory quite well. It’s easier cause i come from lvl 10 though. ![]()
juuuuuuust over 7 days. after almost 10 levels of keeping almost exactly a week per level, i guess slipping level-up day to Monday is good for spacing the reviews a bit more evenly throughout the week.
Wow i thought it was just a trendy sounding word. Didn’t realize it actually exists as a real word.
I reached level 7 today.
Level 26 was reached.
Had a lot of trouble getting around to the timers for it because of work and because the previous level’s timers coincided with work and meetings. I think probably my biggest way to accelerate WK is just to sleep enough lol. ![]()
Another week, another レベルアップ to 十四。Looking forward to another week of kanji. Level 13 went by super quick, mostly because a lot of the stuff in there I had seen on Bunpro at some point or the other.
Glad to see the radicals are basically in the single digits now. See you all in another week!
