Aria the Masterpiece Home Thread (Beginner Book Club / Aria Book Club)

Well, yeah. That’s about half the reason I’ve never gotten around to making a scrapbook for any holiday besides my first trip to Japan back in 2010. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, since we are getting close to the end of the current book, I feel we should discuss what comes next.
I do not mind taking care of making the weekly threads, but I will need someone else to write the table of contents section, since chapter order is always a little bit different with my version (well, extra navigations are always at the end of a volume, while they are all around the place in the masterpiece edition).

Except for that, I’m going to be stupidly busy until June, so I wouldn’t mind if we take a longer break, as @Radish8 said. (If people want to start earlier, you can also make the first couple of threads and I’ll take it from there as needed).

Unrelated, but the first chapter thread is about to close (well, in one month) :frowning: it’s been one year already! Reading through it, I see a lot of people I do not remember at all :see_no_evil:

I really wish the staff had set those threads to never close. shakes head

Thanks for offering to take over creating the threads. I can definitely still help with the table of contents. At the very least I can post a picture.

Now that I’m a full volume behind I’m worried that I’ll never catch up… So hard get back into Aria when I’m constantly catching up in Kino and trying to squeeze in chapters of 放浪息子.

Well, the reading category isn’t exclusively for book clubs, and it would be annoying to manually manage the settings of individual threads. Plus, it also makes sense that there would be very little additional questions, at least for early threads where we basically dissected every sentences. And with so many active clubs, new members would always have some active threads they can join anyway.
It’s sad to see threads close, but I feel it’s part of the natural cycle.

A picture could work indeed!

I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Eventually you will either be done with 放浪息子 or become fast enough to tackle all three (well, Kino will probably be over by then, but you know what I mean)

Just read two chapters a week instead of one, and you’ll catch up eventually. Especially if we stop for a break.

@seanblue This is actually quite doable since there’s a few lightweight chapters in the second half of the volume.

I still intend to keep reading Aria, but I am… kind of behind with everything

If we started volume 5 before I’d caught up I would just start reading at volume 5 though. No point missing out on reading with the group for yet another volume.

I’m not sure how it’s been with volume 4, but do people feel it’s still worth having separate threads for every chapter, rather than one per volume?

Well, we had 10~15 comments per chapters, so for one book, somewhere around 100~150 messages? That being said, I like the ping that comes from having the new thread pop up every week.

How much time do you think you’ll need? (also how far back are you right now, if you don’t mind me asking?)

Oh sure, I totally get that. Just thought it might not be worth the work for you if one thread would suffice

Er… halfway through volume 3? A few weeks, at least, although I’m going to power through without worrying if there’s anything I don’t understand. I just want to be up to speed with the story, fundamentally. I was trying to keep on top of noting down all unknown vocabulary while catching up with volume 3, but it just slowed me down unnecessarily.

Whenever we do start, I’m gonna set myself the task of reporting here every Saturday on how many chapters I’ve read that week, to try to give myself some interim deadlines.

I am going to be busy until mid-June with uni stuff, so would be very happy to delay starting book 5 until then.

I know they are sometimes quite short, but I prefer it. Then I am not likely to run into spoilers for later chapters if I’m behind and catching up (as has happened quite a few times this volume).

Same here (just replace “uni stuff” with “life stuff” lol). I’d be happy for a longer break. I also kind of prefer having separate threads, even if they are short.

Just like seemingly pretty much everyone else, I’d also prefer to start around the middle of June. I’m fine with starting earlier or later than that too, but I probably won’t be caught up straight away if we start earlier.

Alright, let’s go with June 15th, then!

Volume 5 has some easy chapters, especially in the second half of the volume.

So everyone can catch up soon.

In a more 恥ずかしい台詞禁止 way of speaking, I have updated the first post.
It would be great if someone (@seanblue ?) could add the page numbers from the masterpiece edition.
Also, I’m not sure if the special navigations were kept in the same order.

We are starting to read ARIA again this week-end! ズンタカポン!

Ooops, those pictures ring a bell. I might have completely forgotten about that.
I just bookmarked your post for the future.

O…oh, could it be a spoiler? It’s the song of my people, then!
