Android WaniKani App?

#1

I only use WaniKani on my tablet/phone but it seems both Android Apps are not being supported right now. Is anyone looking to fill this gap?

Not being supported? You sure this one doesn’t work for you? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tr.xip.wanikani
It’s getting regular updates as well!

What kinda support do you need? I know the one linked above is a pretty complete app and since there are two or more, why would anyone want to make another one?

This is the one I am currently using and I have been in contact with xip about bugs I have found in the app. He has said repeatedly "as I said here and elsewhere, I'm not actively working on this project."

Two annoying bugs currently in the app:

Typing c-y-u comes out しゅ instead of ちゅ, same issue with c-y-a, c-y-o.
Trying to add or updated the notes for items during reviews doesn't really work. The window is deselected after typing only a letter or two repeatedly.

I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wanikani.androidnotifier and it works. No bugs.

There are two that I'm aware of, and as I said, they are both unsupported. I have not tried the one that lost support awhile ago but the more recent one I've mentioned my issues with above.

The problem with not having support is that even if the apps didn't need any improvements or fixes now, they will most likely break at some point in the future when there is an OS update or some update with the API, etc. I also prefer to deal with an app where feedback is still being heard in terms of both bug fixes and improvements.

That link says it's not available yet in my country unfortunately. :/
(I'm in the UK.)

Heh, weird. I thought that app (like all others I guess) used a webview so that the reviews are basically "WK on mobile" with an added custom app dashboard. I can imagine that's pretty annoying.

And for that reason I don't do reviews on any mobile device unless I have boatloads of time (like waiting for a train). It's either buggy or doesn't give you adequate features.

The project is on Github so technically any dev could pick it up and fix it...

Kinda offtopic but I hadn’t seen before typing ちゅ as ‘cyu’. Always do just ‘chu’. Same for the other ch stuff.

Me neither. I always do chu, cha, etc.

@OP: maybe try this way of writing ちゅ ? Might avoid one of those bugs with it!

Yeah I guess I'll have to try and change my habits for that app. It's unfortunately muscle memory though at this point.

For what it’s worth, typing cyu works on most IMEs.

On samsung andoid keyboard it doesn’t. It returns “cゆ”
