I think I’m going to do something fairly dramatic and consolidate all language reviews into Anki. I’ve currently got Anki, Wanikani, and Migaku every day. That’s a real pain. I like the layout and customizations of Anki, the single review resource, and the alignment of review standards. I can also continue to mine cards using Migaku and send them to Anki on desktop.

Transition to Anki implemented, which allows me to do reviews comfortably on my iPad, write words out using an Apple Pencil, and consolidates my workflow. Already a significant improvement. The big outstanding issues are setting up the Japanese and Chinese card creation flows, which I’ll tackle today.
I’ve also added three other languages because it isn’t particularly burdensome to add a few more items each day with this efficiency gain.

Migaku transfer for Anki is set for French and Chinese. It took way too much time to get Chinese set up and I couldn’t even get it to show pinyin properly for sentences. I’ll get Japanese set up at a later date, maybe the weekend.
I already feel that partitioning sentence mining to a single session per week was a good idea. I feel more free to simply enjoy what I’m consuming now without worrying about doing mining.
Happy to see you are back and now you are doing even more languages. Its exceptionally impressive. Heavy but impressive.
Thanks. It was said best in a video by Will Hart that I watched yesterday: look forward to language learning. Doing Anki reviews is meditative for me. I look forward to it. It’s why I migrated everything into Anki: I prefer the experience of using Anki to other tools.
Reading Spanish and Italian will be pretty easy overall for me once I learn enough words, because they’re sufficiently like Latin and French to make core grammar reasonably transferable. Yeah there’s differences, but it’s not like they’re alien languages, like Japanese. And there’s so many cognate words that once you’ve learned Latin and French, it’s pretty easy to pick up the vocabulary in the others. Again, my goal is reading comprehension, not “fluency” in the languages. I want to relax in my study at home and comfortably read in these languages. So adding these wasn’t too much more.
German will be a challenge, so I’m only doing 5 new cards per day. I have no specific target for Chinese. For Japanese I’m just working through Wanikani because I want to finish it, and I’m now doing the 2K/6K deck in Anki as well for the sentences mainly. It’s good easy exposure in small chunks that I find helpful. Greek and Latin are largely in a holding pattern and I’m pretty comfortable with the vocab load for those.
