Advanced Japanese Book Club // Now Reading: 香君 上 西から来た少女

I read the free preview on booklive (~10%) and I still have no idea. (Exactly nothing happened)

I’m just going to rent the book and drop it if it gets too bad.

Just need one more vote for Nausicaä to tie first.

Would it help if I break out the drill sergeant voice? “Vote for Nausicaä, maggots!”? :stuck_out_tongue:

Two votes :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Well that’s just mean…

One of these days you’re going to get fed up and run a stand-alone book club yourself.

One of these days the Advanced Book Club might actually pick a book I’m at all interested in reading. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll trade a Nausicaä for a Genocidal Organ :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, noticed that too… If it had been just one vote, I’d have gifted you the Nausicaä book club as a reward for your tenacity (as I have one vote left still…) but with two votes there’s nothing I can do, really

So (as nothing has changed over the past day or more) I’m calling the voting a day and declare the winner:

:tada: :tada: :tada: Tatami Galaxy :tada: :tada: :tada:

@omk3 would you like to be our host?

Haha, what? Something changed between thirty-seven minutes ago and thirteen minutes ago, based on the post times on mine and seanblue’s posts this morning.

With pleasure

You mean that Nausicaä was two votes behind? That already happened more than 12 hours ago, through miwuc’s vote…

Also, sadly we need to say goodbye to the nomination of 化物語 as it fell below the 10% mark in the last three polls.
But I hear that we can look forward to @Naphthalene reporting on it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Is it possible to request a standardised time period of each poll like they’re doing in the ABBC and BBC? They close their polls after one week, not some arbitrary number of days that change every time.

Can easily be done with the auto-close function in the poll builder.

Ah, sure, I can do that. It’s just that we always closed the poll when voting has dried up, so I stuck with it. One week seems to be a bit long for my taste, but if you prefer that, no problem of course!

I was about to suggest exactly that. There was one time where I missed the voting window because I thought “I’ll do it this weekend” but the poll got closed before that ^^’ One week means there will always be a weekend in there.

I usually tried to make sure to include a weekend (either at the start or at the end of the poll period) but maybe this did not always work out 100%. So, my apologies if I messed up, and I will improve this next time!

I tried watching the anime adaption twice (with English subs mind you) and my brain imploded both times from how fast they spoke. So I will absolutely not be joining on this one.

Also, apparently you can link to headers in Discourse. Who knew. Advanced Japanese Book Club // Now reading: 傲慢と善良 - #776 by NicoleIsEnough. Not sure it consistently works though…

I can reassure you that in the book the speaking speed is whatever you want it to be :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What do you mean by “link to headers”? If you mean that you can just put in the URL and it gives you the header, then yes, I do that all the time.

@Belthazar I promise to strongly consider voting for Nausicaa next time (or the time after) once I have the physical version. Can you confirm that this item is the right set to buy for the whole series and also the dimensions? (I don’t really want to super premium version that’s like 3.5 times the cost.) CD Japan won’t say, but the two volume English version I have is huge (like 10 inches or something) compared to regular manga. I think the Japanese version is supposed to be the same, but I want to make sure I have the right thing before buying.

Yes, but that style implies an absurd amount of dialogue, which just no thanks.

When you do # in a post it’s an h1 header and generally you can link to those in URLs such as #header-id at the end. I didn’t expect Discourse to support that since there are already so many URLs (one for each post) for a single topic. But apparently it does work.

I noticed the red part above changed the cursor as if I could click a link, and doing so updated the URL to include the header. In this case it’s #tada-tada-tada-tatami-galaxy-tada-tada-tada-1. :joy:

(Notice how clicking that link jumps to the middle of your post where the header is, not to the top of the post like normal.)
