Dunno if this is Jisho, but Jisho (also) has the entire list of Wikipedia article titles as dictionary entries. The relevant licencing text says “Wikipedia data comes from the DBpedia project and is dual licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 and GNU Free Documentation License.”
It’s in WWWJDIC, and has been since 2023. The dictionary includes the titles of various famous books and films, because if you’ve encountered it in reading as a throwaway reference you probably want to know it’s a reference to a film/play/piece of music rather than just getting a literal translation of the title.
If your yomichan doesn’t have this you might want to consider updating its dictionary file to get the accumulated additions and corrections.
I think it’s specifically from JMnedict, which is included in WWWJDIC and other dictionaries (or something like that).
The home thread for 香君 is up now:
There’s currently a golden week sale on Amazon (ends in two days). Not much, but you can get some extra points for purchasing at least 4 books, which is perfect if you planned to buy them anyway.
For anyone who likes books, mysteries, or mystery books, the mystery book club is now voting on the Natively forums.
(Posting in place of @pocketcat who’s having trouble logging on to the wk forums)
Thank you! I can access it on devices I already logged in on but when I tried (with two different browsers) on a new computer I could log into WK but not the forums ![]()
香君 week one kicks off today (I’ve just posted the discussion thread for it).
Would somebody like to update the top post in this thread? I know I have the permissions to do it but I find that kind of editing job is pretty tedious on a tablet…
(Edit: fixed link)
Your link is to the previous bookclub’s thread I think since it pinged me
Whoops, yes, must have cut and pasted the wrong thing. Now fixed.
And thanks to @Belthazar for updating the home post here.
A new book club has appeared
we will probably be reading volume 2 in a couple of months, so if you didn’t join for volume 1 last year, technically you can still make it! (also before anyone asks, I have no idea if it’s important to read volume 1 before volume 2, as I haven’t read volume 2 yet)
Hello all,
I totally missed the fact that the current book club will be over in the near future ![]()
Therefore I will set up the new poll on 2025-07-16T16:00:00Z (or a bit later
)
Which means, if you would like to nominate anything, please do so until then. Thanks ![]()
So, a new nomination, then !

Personal Opinion
Yakuza ! Kabuki ! Aren’t you excited ?
More seriously : the book has received very good reviews, there’s a recent movie adaptation that has also been praised.
As for the author, he has received multiple literary awards, including the Akutagawa Award for his novel パークライフ.
Pros and Cons for the Book Club
Pros
Contemporary litterature exploring more traditional parts of japanese culture. I had a brief look at the first pages, and it doesn’t seem difficult, but I guess there will be more specialized vocabulary later on.
There is also an audiobook version
Cons
The book is long, so we may have to choose whether to read only one volume, and possibly continue as an informal book club for the second, or read it all but with a lengthy run
Ooooh, I’m excited! I recently came across an announcement for the new movie (maybe in a Bookwalker mail?
) and promptly put the book on my wishlist. Happy to see you nominate it ![]()
I think I will include only the first volume in the poll. This way, people who are not interested can start a new book sooner. But of course we can add the second volume to the subsequent poll, and who knows what will happen? ![]()
That sounds perfect !
I made it on time for
The Next POLL!!!
Have a look at the List of Proposed Books section in the first post for details on each book. If you are interested, you can have a look at the books’ Natively levels through this list. The Natively level is also annotated in the poll in square brackets after each book’s name.
Do not rely solely on the levels when making a choice. Please have a look at the nomination posts and text samples if you haven’t already.
Expected reading pace: The proposals fall into two categories, Fast and Hard. We aim to read fast books at 30-50 pages per week and hard books at ~15 pages per week (that number might vary a bit throughout, depending on the book’s breaks and chapters). For manga, depending on difficulty and chapter length, we will probably read one to several chapters per week. The pick’s exact reading schedule will be negotiated before the book club kicks off.
Start of Book Club: We will start the next book on Aug 30th (after a one-week break).
Poll duration: The poll will be closed on 2025-07-23T16:00:00Z. You can choose up to 5 options.
Oh, and if somebody could update the thread title to “Now voting!” that would be great. Thanks!

I am in “vote only for books you already own, your to-read pile is too big” mode right now ![]()
I’m in “no way I can possibly read two advanced books at the same time” mode right now always, so I voted for the manga. (I know I’ll be continuing with 香君 while the next pick is read.)
I’ll abstain, since I’ll probably need the entire runtime of the next club to finish the first half of 香君,
