I was planning to move to the beginner book club when my japanese skill was high enough that I could read the absolute beginner book club books mostly on my own. Is that a good timeframe or should I be aiming for a different moment?

I joined both at the same time since I finished the ABBC very early. It will be a bit of a jump because of the faster pace of reading. However, I found it useful even when I didn’t understand everything.

I still read ABBC and BBC books interchangeably, and ABBC isn’t particularly easy. The biggest difference to me is furigana - if you’re prepared to look up lots of words, you’re probably ready for BBC :slight_smile:

Maybe you are ready for the Beginner Book Club then That starts a new manga this weekend btw!

Yotsuba would be a solid pick - extremely popular, funny, easy (just level 17). Also appealing to a broader audience.
I vote for Dekiru neko with an ulterior motive - maybe that it’ll motivate me to do some chores (and I have the first volume in paper and ratings are high, though not many people voted)
