Based on the results of the poll, we will be reading at 2 weeks per chapter for Chap 31 and 34, and 1 week per chapter for Chap 32 and 33.

My split chapter suggestion for this volume is the same as the last: two weeks each for the first and last chapters of the volume, one week each for the second and third.
Split Option Breakdown
Chapter 31: Lots of high text pages, including a lore dump, and a handwritten letter. Thinking two weeks.
Chapter 32: Has a few longer sections but also a noteable number of low/no text pages. Thinking one week.
Chapter 33: Moderate amount of text in most pages. I’d be on the fence, but the next chapter is significantly more dense, so let’s say this is one week.
Chapter 34: Better for two weeks: not only has lots of high text pages, but also a good amount of handwriting, and several different lore sections!
You’re also welcome to vote to return to the original pace (2 weeks per chapter), or increase to 1 week per chapter.
As usual, we’ll be reading at the slowest pace anyone votes for, but please vote regardless so we can see how people feel about the reading!
Also, as a reminder, I’m posting this poll early because it will be difficult for me to post it or edit the Vol 8 thread while I’m in Japan. However, if you don’t feel comfortable voting this early, or you vote now and feel the need to change your vote after I’ve closed the poll, just let me know and I can keep the poll open after this week, or reopen it as necessary. My current plan is to close the poll at the end of this week (Nov 8th)!
What pace would you like to read volume 8 at?
Continue at current pace (2 weeks per chapter for 31 and 34, 1 week per chapter for 32 and 33)
It looks like the majority of people prefer not to have a break. However, since there was still one vote for a break, and we had some comments indicating people would be willing to take a break even though they’re not personally interested in one, I may revisit the question when I’m back from my trip.
Original Post
Hey folks! Last year, the ABBC ended on Dec 14th, and the group decided to start the offshoot on Jan 4th, to give everyone three weeks off for Christmas/New Years. (And now December is just a month away! Time flies!)
Now, if we end up reading vol 8 at a pace of one week per chapter, we’d end on Dec 19th, and could consider doing a two week break until January. But if we read it at a slower pace, we’ll be ending either during, or after the Christmas season, which makes taking a Christmas break a bit more awkward.
I’d like to get a preliminary idea of what folks are thinking – are you okay with taking a break during Vol 8? Would you prefer a break only if we’re done the volume? Or would you prefer no break at all?
To be clear, this is not a vote about how long a potential break should be. I just want to know if people want a break at all, since if we’re doing a break it’ll warrant further discussion.
I would like to take a break for Christmas/New Years, even if we’re not done reading Vol 8
I would only consider taking a break for Christmas/New Years if it happens after we finish reading Vol 8
I would prefer not to take a break for Christmas/New Years regardless of where we are in the reading

Based on how people vote in this poll and in the reading pace poll, I may set up a new poll later with specific potential break dates.
I track my manga volumes read per year. As such, I complete every volume I’m in the middle of by the end of December 31st. Any book club finishing early January, I finish up by the end of December. Any book club starting around the end of December, wait until January to begin.
Overall, I support whatever keeps the highest number of less experienced learners reading along.
whooo zucchi I hope you have fun in Japan!! We’ll be living vicariously through you.
I voted “no break” for Christmas. I think I said this last year, but my work slows to a crawl at Christmas and we personally don’t do a ton of Christmas celebrations, so I have a lot of time on my hands around then. That being said, I am happy to defer to people who do have a lot of obligations around that time and would like some time off to just enjoy their holidays. Also whoa have we been doing this for almost a year now???
Even better, we’re at a faster pace than native Japanese readers initially read through the series. It took them four years to get through 50 chapters, and we’re already around 30 in one year.
Granted, they were only getting one chapter per month.
Hi folks! The Christmas break poll ended with a split between having no break and having a one week break, with a slight majority towards no break. However, given that most of the voters for no break have said they are also fine with having a break, and that it has been the tradition of this club to prioritize votes for a slower pace over a higher one, the club will be taking a one week break starting Dec 20th.
Have a great holiday next week, folks! Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I hope you get some time to rest and relax!

Hey folks!
It’s December! Wowie!
We had a Christmas break poll at the beginning of November, and there was a little bit of interest in one. So, now that it’s December, I want to revisit the idea, and see if people’s thoughts have changed!
Note: Unlike our reading pace polls, where we choose the slowest pace that anyone votes for, I won’t necessarily choose the longest break that anyone votes for, as a consistent schedule can be helpful to keep us on track. Still, since this is an ABBC offshoot, I’ll be weighing votes for longer breaks higher than ones for shorter ones.
I’ll close the poll by this time next week (Jan 17th), or earlier if most of us vote by the weekend!
How long of a break, if any, would you like to take for Christmas/New Years?
Two week break (Christmas/New Years): Dec 20-Jan 2
I’m voting for no break, but I intend to finish the volume before the end of the year regardless of what the club decides to do (I hate having half-finished books at the end of year. ). So take my vote with a grain of salt there.
Based on the results of the poll, we will be reading chap 35 and 37 at a rate of 1 week per chapter, and chap 36 and 38 at a rate of 2 weeks per chapter.

We’ve got the same page count as last volume, folks!
Now, here’s the split chapter suggestion for this volume!
Split Option Breakdown
Chap 35: Contains over 10 low text pages, don’t feel the need to split this.
Chap 36: 51-73, 74-96. has a long handwritten letter and some dense pages as well.
Chap 37: 97-117, 118-142. has some dense pages but also some low-text ones, i think it’s lighter than Chap 36 or 38.
Chap 38: has some heavier pages including handwriting.
You’re also welcome to vote to return to the original pace (2 weeks per chapter), or increase to 1 week per chapter.
We’ll be changing pace to the slowest pace anyone votes on. Please vote regardless so we can see how everyone’s feeling about the reading!
As always, feel free to share your thoughts below. I’ll close the vote in a few days!
What pace would you like to read volume 9 at?
Continue at current pace (1 week per chapter for 35 and 37, 2 weeks per chapter for 36 and 38.)
Based on the results of the poll, we will be reading chap 39 and chap 40 at a rate of 2 weeks per chapter, and chap 41 and 42 at a rate of 1 week per chapter.

The page count is quite even between chapters this time!
Now, here’s the split chapter suggestion for this volume!
Split Option Breakdown
Chap 39: This week has lots of dense lore, and also has a natural splitting point in the middle. 2 weeks.
Chap 40: Similar to last chapter – lore + natural splitting point, so 2 weeks.
Chap 41: A relatively lighter chapter including quite a bit of recap – 1 week.
Chap 42: Some pages are a bit heavy but almost half the pages have low word count – 1 week.
You’re also welcome to vote to return to the original pace (2 weeks per chapter), or increase to 1 week per chapter.

What pace would you like to read volume 10 at?
Continue at current pace (2 weeks each for chap 39 and 40, 1 week each for chap 41 and 42)
Based on the results of the poll, we will be reading chap 43 and chap 44 at a rate of 2 weeks per chapter, and chap 45 at a rate of 1 week per chapter.

What’s this? This volume only has three chapters in it! And the page counts aren’t even at all!
As such, my split option suggestions will be a little different than usual. Either we split both of the longer chapters, or only the longest one.
Now, here’s my split chapter thoughts for this volume!
Split Option Breakdown
Chap 43: This week has a very natural splitting point a little more than halfway through the chapter. That being said, while being pretty long, it’s not particularly text-heavy.
Chap 44: This is the longest chapter in the volume, and also has dense moments. If we are going to split any chapter in the volume I would choose this one.
Chap 45: This chapter has by far the shortest length, so if we were to choose one chapter not to split, I would say this one. That being said, the second half of the chapter has a lot of small text and lore explanations.
You’re also welcome to vote to return to the original pace (2 weeks per chapter), or increase to 1 week per chapter.
We’ll be changing pace to the slowest pace anyone votes on. Please vote regardless so we can see how everyone’s feeling about the reading!

What pace would you like to read volume 11 at?
Split 2 Chapters (2 weeks for Chap 43 and 44, 1 week for Chap 45)
Split 1 Chapter (2 weeks for Chap 44, 1 week for Chap 43 and Chap 45)
As per the results of the poll, we’ll be reading Vol 12 at a rate of one chapter a week!

Hey folks, it’s time to vote on the reading pace for the last volume of Card Captor Sakura! Can you believe we started this series in Aug 2024? We’ve been consistent in our reading for almost two years! I’m much better at Japanese than I was in 2024, and I’m sure you’ve all grown as well.

The last volume of the series has five chapters in it, the majority of them under 30 pages. The last chapter also has a significant amount of artistic low-text pages, as one might expect for the finale to a series! The first chapter is a little more text-dense, but definitely within what we’ve become accustomed to reading over the last few years.
So, in a first for this book club, the only chapter I would even consider splitting for this volume is the first one. And honestly, I think the low page counts overall make this a great opportunity to finish our book club at a 1-chapter-a-week pace!
We’ll be changing pace to the slowest pace anyone votes on. But regardless, this is your last opportunity to vote in a reading pace poll for this book club! If you haven’t in a while, why not give it a go?
As always, feel free to share your thoughts below. I’ll close the vote in a few days!
What pace would you like to read volume 12 at?
Read Chap 46 in 2 weeks, Chap 47-50 in 1 week each
