Number of reviews are not a good indicator because they depend on your accuracy.
I’m at 107k completed reviews according to the dashboard widget so there is definitely something weird going on in your case.
I would figure out what items in particular are slowing down your advance.
If you need, say, 27 kanji to guru level to advance to the next level, but you keep getting 2 kanji wrong and they keep rising and dropping through the apprentice levels, you can literally do thousands of reviews only of those two items and still never level up a single time.
Hey there! I think I would be cautious with doing any more resets unless it’s been an extremely long time since you’ve touched Japanese. Wanikani should be a tool that helps you dive into reading, listening, speaking, or any of your Japanese goals, you don’t want to spin your wheels too long repeating the same stuff. Even if you take a break from Wanikani, but you are still engaging in the language in other ways, I think you’d be surprised at how much you remember still when you come back.
Hope this helps. Just for reference, I have 242,500 total reviews at level 52. No resets
