Some how missed that you were going for the JLPT (and N2 at that!) as well as all the German - my brain would have turned to super mush trying to learn all that language.
So がんばって!for the test!
Some how missed that you were going for the JLPT (and N2 at that!) as well as all the German - my brain would have turned to super mush trying to learn all that language.
So がんばって!for the test!
so, yep, i bombed xddd
I left the following message on my friends’ discord server immediately after going out of the examination station:
Even if somehow I did pass N2, which isn’t impossible, it almost certainly wouldn’t be 112 points I’d like to get to get labelled as B2 level by CEFR standards, so we’re back to the grind and looking forward to December 2026, “the time will pass anyway”, or something xdd
Truth to be said, I really considered that if I were to do well, I’d just rest on the laurels and go like “haaaa im so good at japanese
” and then never confront the fact my speaking/writing is absolutely nowhere and then never approach N1, and now the deadline to feel like this is in a year from now, so that’s the silver lining ^^
Another thought is that I thought the emotion I’d feel while bombing would be, defeat? Being depressed? And I’m not necessarily seeing it yet, maybe I’m going through the stages of grief or something, but I know that night at the end of January will be depressing regardless xddd
So, ちはやふる! Genuinely don’t know why this manga isn’t rated N2 on Natively, I think it’s really good N2 learning material, including the fact it brings a lot of sentences that don’t make sense until you actively think about things that are not written xddd
So are we doing 10 books in Japanese, 10 books in English, 10 books in German as a New Year’s resolution for real?
Looking forward to the winter reading marathon now, the goal remains 1 minute longer than @Redglare and 1 minute longer than @WeepingWeeb xdd
Düsseldorf is also getting very Christmasy! I’m really salty that when I arrived yesterday, all the bookstores were closed already, and today, nothing was opened, because it’s Sunday in Germany ^^
…except for the Christmas markets and Japanese restaurants making crazy profit off of people coming to experience the Japanese culture in Düsseldorf ^^
Very Slam Dunk!
My friend left earlier than me, so I went to the Christmas market and did some ice skating! It’s been a while since I did it last, and it was raining the whole day, so the ice rink was basically a thin layer of a swimming pool on top ^^
Then hit the Glühwein (Kinderpunsch) stand and got myself another Christmas market mug, this one is ceramic and it was really pretty C:
EDIT: oo, btw, forgot to mention, but me and my friend got ourselves some matching TAKUMI RAMEN shirts from Düsseldorf, mine is Lavender and hers was pink ^^
See you tomorrow! ^^
Alles gut ![]()
You did pretty good
This is normal and it goes away with time. The idea of pouring everything directly from your mind into the paper without making any slight mistakes is rare without practice and time, because we usually tend to think in a different way than we have to write per se. We have more flexibility in our brains in that regard. Always be proud of yourself ![]()
They’re just right around the corner ![]()
well, you understood it, because your brain was finally able to decipher that information regardless of the language. Once it has the information, the deciphering it has to do with a different language for the same information is less, since it only has to connect the dots per se. Maybe I should write more about this at some point, but I have to find the time for that first ![]()
![]()
It works, it works. Just trust in the system and the compounding results over time.
There’s another prohibited way, of which I shall not say anything
for it’s quite dangerous for the soul and the mind ![]()
You’re doing quite well and you got this ![]()
Wishing you best of luck with the results of the N2 exam. I think you’ll be surprised with them in a good way
(your reflection was really amazing and heartening
)
your Japanese knowledge is way bigger and more fun than a number
I hope at the end of the year what you remember fun stuff like doubling your Japanese read in one month ![]()
I started this manga because I thought that it’d be a nice level 24 reading material, as it was graded, but the difficulty has definitely not been up to the level 24 standard, so that was an interesting read ![]()
It’s fun to see what people find difficult vs what I personally find difficult, for me, the manga flew by really quickly, but the person that rated it before found it a bit more difficult, I wonder what were they concerned by back then ![]()
This manga has 6 volumes that are free and I’ve just read the first one, so I still have 5 volumes to go if I set my mind to continue reading it ^^
As for YouTube, I went through a lot today, so let me share some of my rabbit holes today xdd
I went through a few more, but the big takeaway is that I’m looking for listening content and I really want to breach out to native content that Japanese people enjoy rather than relying on study material, so if anyone knows a BAAAANGER audio drama (preferably not from an IP, not from an anime), please do let me know ^^
I don’t have my bike, so today after work was a bit more walking than usual, through rain in Berlin xdd
I hid from the rain in public transit today, say hi to the animals!
The temperature is up to 12 degrees for some reason, so white Christmas is cancelled once again, you could even say…
But yeah, I did reflect a bit on the JLPT and what do I want to do with Japanese next and realized that I’m probably back to the drawing board and want to do some more explorations now ^^
Here’s the Palestinian watermelon close to my library, they keep painting and repainting it again, now it doesn’t have any seeds, it will have before too long xddd
And I did write my santa letter today! A bit late, but now in the age of morse code and carrier pigeons, we can deliver the letter to him in Lapland really quickly ^^
See you tomorrow!
So, two threads today:
There’s a new thread on WaniKani about overcoming 積読 in 2026 and reading books you already own, I’m doing that on the side already, so it would be fun to at least people know when i tackle another thing from my bookshelf ^^
Winter Solstice marathon is coming! I’m still not 100% sure what I’ll be reading around that time and it evolves by the day, but I’d love to read for something like 10+ hours if I set my mind to that day, we’ll see how I feel on the day ^^
me every day
Today’s immersion has been pretty cool:
I noticed recently that yuri/shoujo/josei manga I’ve been reading has a bit of a worse effect on my mental health, because in some way they reinforce the idea that people can only be happy through being codependent with another person and it’s getting on my nerves and makes me feel more judgmental towards things than usual, so today I tried to cleanse my palate and I reached out for an adventure manga, Romeo and Juliet played on stage by an all-female cast!
I didn’t look up what the difficulty level of this one would be and I was going through “oh yeah, this one is like, level 24 or something” to SKULL EMOJI
But there were a few great words, like 初々しい, young and innocent C:
And the illustrations have been really cool, appreciated!
I think I’m slowly getting to the level where I have to start steering my manga consumption habits to something a bit more personalized, so this could be a nice start, I like my series asexual and adventurous ^^
But I really wonder, why is it that my random stumbling upon manga lately has been returning so many mangas that come with a higher difficulty level: is it that my taste in covers and synopses is leading to more difficult titles, or is manga on average just more difficult than I thought it was?
<says as she looks over Noragami | L28 Natively page>
And as for Jelly Jelly Radio: big news today, the new episode on Monday is a special one, it’s a TTRPG, せんな plays the role of the dungeon master and さきこ is the one playing the game, and what was really crazy to me was that this was the very first episode where I could actually follow the whole podcast as I was listening to it! That also explains why only 25 minutes, I got excited and was doing full attention to the episode and that tired me out and I didn’t want to miss out on the context xdd
Really fun episode so far though!
I found an ad in the city for the samurai museum that @Enigmaxprincex has been recommending and UuuUuuUuuU, this isn’t what I expected xddd
I might pay them a visit sometime in 2026 ^^
Meanwhile, Germans appropriating the West Side Story, how cute C:
I picked up my new bike from Decathlon today and it’s really bulky, but it rides faster than the previous one did and I’m really happy with how it performs so far: the best thing about getting the bike from Decathlon is that if anything breaks over the next 12 months, they will just repair it for free: I used it with the last bike to a pretty solid extent, definitely aiming on using my bike intensively over the next 12 months too C:
And btw, new nails! Was trying to go for a Rin Tohsaka palette, but the nails never look like the color in the catalogue, so it’s not the exact colors I was looking for ^^
“I’d like to get Mario Party 9 for our Wii, so that I can play it with my friends, Jessica, 11 years old”
what a dream
See you tomorrow!
These are lowkey my favorite Bidoof posts ![]()

They made this ad just for you. It’s gonna be interesting to see what your experience will be like ![]()
I’m not gonna spoil anything, so that you can enjoy everything there ![]()
Just catching up on all the study logs I’ve missed and wow you have had a packed few weeks!!
First of all HUUUUGE congratulations on your German exam!!! That is MAJOR! Just the fact that you were studying for two huge language exams at the same time is brilliant in and of itself.
I can completely understand your feelings coming out of the N2… Walking out of the exam felt like such a gut-punch. I hope the days since have been feeling a bit brighter, though! Shiny holiday things (and cute new [laceless] shoes) have a way of lifting the spirits!!!
Also you’re making me want to give YUYU’s podcast another try. I found something about his voice very hard to focus on… I also have been meaning to listen to Jelly Jelly Radio…wait I said I’m not studying for a week!! ahhh!!
geeez i didnt know we had such a nail fanbase around, we need to get shannon back to doing nails too ^^
thank thank! and they definitely do, it’s nice to treat yourself every once in a while ^^
I think he does murrmurr quite a bit and he does it so casually without giving in second thought and i’m finding it a little hard to focus on his voice as well, but his content is pretty educational and does work to help improve the listening comprehension ![]()
I went from being like “huh” about the podcast to being a number one western fan of the podcast im an ambassador right now (more in the post below) ![]()
today, i was the very first to get to the Satori Reader story after it was added, wow ^^
Though, the difficulty level of 変わらないもの is really low and I did try to boost the speed of the recording to 1.2x, it still felt a little too slow to me
歳月の門 is still really nice though, there is a backlog of a few episodes to catch up on ^^
And today’s manga…
The short synopsis is that there is an older woman who’s into BL and then she meets up a younger girl who also is into BL and then they start to become friends to one another and supporting each other through life and challenges and realizing yourself as an artist and as a fan and it did really feel wholesome, but moreover: the backgrounds!
The older woman lives close to 池袋 and you get panels like:
and its like I REMEMBER BEING THERE I DO I DOOOO
The manga is in a very interesting spot difficulty-wise where it’s very quick to read, but it doesn’t feel like it’s that easy, so I was in the flow as I was reading it ^^
also, important words for today ^^
Would recommend!
Also, JELLY JELLY RADIO, aaaAAAA
The TTRPG they’ve played was called カタシロ and せんな, who was a dungeon master for the game, made the session as a birthday gift to his coworker, さきこ, and throughout the story, introduced a character of あきら, a boy played by a woman close by to さきこ and さきこ was super surprised by the addition and she said it made her birthday so great ![]()
さきこ mentioned she wasn’t very knowledgeable around the world of TTRPGs aND YOU COULD TELL, but it was really amusing to hear さきこ try to play it up regardless and one part of the charm was listening to her exhausting different options and trying to talk to あきら xddd
An entire hour-long episode and it was my favorite episode of this podcast yet, had a lot of parasociality that has been earned in the previous episode and せんな and さきこ were bouncing off of one another better than in any other episode I’ve listened to, PLUS, I could follow the story happening, it was great
xddd
Our queer book club got cancelled today, so sadly, had nothing cool in the afternoon to do, aside from reading a ton of manga ^^
I went on Tai’s Discord and had a pretty fun evening chatting to @shitsurei and @shuly regardless, thank you guys, I really needed a mood lifter today C:
Thalia, the bookstore chain in Germany, has its own anime mascot right now for some reason… and of course she’s a fujoshi for some reason xddd
I saw a tiny little robot doggo today that was radio controlled, but has SO MUCH different buttons and different modes that it could stand and wave its legs and the revolution has come and will eradicate humans already xddd
what a weaboo lmao
And yeah, sadly, the selection of our ONLY bookstore in Berlin with Japanese manga is getting smaller and smaller, I did ask at the cash register today if they’re interested in grabbing more manga in 2026, and apparently they haven’t been able to sign any deals with the suppliers is what they said, so the collection will keep on shrinking ![]()
That being said, check this out! I didn’t even know something like this existed, but here’s the bilingual version of 君の名は! Luckily, I’m probably a bit above the need to have an English translation to understand things, but I wonder if it’s supposed to be for the western market, or for the Japanese market to teach people there English language???
Tomorrow, end of the year party at work, I’m delivering a big presentation to the whole workforce about the financial statement of the company from the Works Council and I signed up for a Christmasy… tarot reading
xddd
I’m still really ass at spirituality, so I’m mostly just looking for storytelling and inspiration for headcanons and terrible wattpad/ao3 fanfics if I wanted to ever write them, but I’m genuinely curious what storytelling will be provided to me tomorrow ^^
So, see you tomorrow!
it’s tais
not everyones..but belongs to @taiyousea ![]()
plenty of good bl manga out there ![]()
exactly what it’s for!!! I have it but it’s just been sitting in the pile of all the other books…
mostly because the Japanese part is super tiny print
btw it’s not the only one like this ![]()
so this is a reading given by
or
or ![]()
one of us! one of us!
Ahh, not the best day in terms of Japanese today, but bit by bit ^^
Today’s manga is a weird one, I’ve heard it’s very much Living in The Society content, and I found it pretty relatable up until this panel xddd
to give you more context on what 先生の白い嘘 is, it’s a manga about a teacher who’s an observer to a class of students that come in varying levels of sexual attraction, but she also would like to be desired, and it touches on the idea of loneliness, being seen, and I think those are pretty interesting pursuits, but I did think by the end of the second chapter that it makes a little more fun of its protagonists than what i’d feel comfortable with today ^^
So today haven’t read much, it’s still an interesting manga, I probably would have to sleep on it though
In a bit more uplifting news~
1000 days of WaniKani finally hit! C:
I’m at another gong this year after seeing no gongs for like, my entire lifetime leading up until this year xddd
Also, censored!
We had a pretty fun venue for our Works Council presentation today, they gave us snacks, jellies, drinks, some wraps, and we ended up having a ton of people come to our presentation today! ![]()
I probably can’t disclose how many people we’ve had, but this room was preeeetty full and I was reading from a prompter as if you’re delivering a TEDx presentation or something xddd ^^
In general, I think I’m well past the stage of “stage fright”, but I’m still working on improving my charisma, so I hope I managed to fill up my Sim charisma bar today again ^^
Then, Christmas party! Had some food around and watched some of our friends play Mario Kart World today, sadly, you can play it up to four percent, so I was just rooting on them from the sides xddd
They also had a barista that was coming up with Christmasy drinks, whether alcoholic or mocktails C:
And I did end up having my Tarot reading taken!
Apparently I’m doubling money (Max $20) and converting up to 3 selected cards to Clubs ^^
In terms of storytelling, it seems like it was something like “you’re currently strongly rooted but it’s time for you to start searching for things and don’t forget to check in with yourself and surround yourself with family and friends”, so very specific readings, oh well xdd
And it’s the end of my working for this year! My holiday break has officially started and I’m only back in January C:
Tomorrow, my mom comes back to Berlin for Christmas markets and to pick me up to Poland, so it might be my final day of adventures by myself in Germany for this year, so, who knows ^^
Hope it’ll be fun!
See you tomorrow!
Some of my coworkers are 22/23 and yes they are babies teaching babies. To be fair I started at 22 as well but they seem so YOUNG to me now. It’s interesting to watch them struggle, learn, and grow up. And also lose them in the students sometimes. The only real difference is the 20-something guys are more filled out than the teens. Everyone is wearing track suits so even clothing doesn’t differentiate them lol.
You… you understand that at 26 YOU seem so YOUNG to me now. (
will this cause all the WK users to age chain… I know we’ve got a pretty good distribution within the regulars…)
Yeah, so 先生の白い嘘 took a really weird turn and started feeling exploitative just a few pages after I finished reading yesterday xdd
It’s definitely a heavy subject matter and my heart bleeds out for the main character, but the way manga is presenting the story, is not giving any grace to the protagonist and what I called “making a little more fun of the protagonists” ended up being “just turned their treatment by the plot into abuse” ![]()
Not everything will be a hit, so, hey. On the other hand, I went to reading physical today and I did read a volume of 光が死んだ夏! Just trying to wrap up as much physical things before going back to Poland ^^
Loved this panel at the bottom, it definitely felt like a stream of consciousness!
The manga has some really pretty illustrations, and Shuly says the anime is even nicer!
I watched The Leftist Cooks video on Borders and it felt really inspiring, so if anyone is curious, feel free to give it a shot, but it’s very heavy ^^
And a campaign funded by the European Union called “Das ist nicht nur Obst und Gemüse”, it’s a pun playing off of illegal substances in Berlin in a way that’s pretty much wink wink to the people can pick up on this, awww C:
Either way, another one of those breakfasts with friends today! And I got another divination session, this time from a deck of cards that probably don’t have any magic and spirituality behind them and they forced for us to invent a definition for the cards that makes the most sense in the context behind the cards, so im telling you, the urn is probably because of the votes in the elections for the works council ![]()
I’ve got no other friends that can give me divination sessions, so unfortunately my adventure with fortune telling is over already ![]()
Bikini Berlin is really nicely decorated for Christmas and is getting more and more Japanese things, including the bookstore-in-making on the top floor I mentioned before, I did end up saying a few sentences in Japanese to a Japanese cashier there!
And I did end up going to the Pausify Book Club today, the special edition today was around Christmas, it was a little louder than usual and there was a big table with candy and a big table with arts & crafts, but I was still in for the reading and wrapped up my manga volume in almost exactly an hour ^^
A lot of holiday wishes today and saying goodbye to the people until January, so, fun times!
Either way, see you tomorrow!
I was clearing out my physical manga collection and I found one volume I bought for a book club a while back and read only bits and pieces of:
Because of the series being set in a agrarian school, a lot of the humor in it is very slapstick and it doesn’t always land, but it’s always loud, and loud does make it at least remarkable xddd
On the other hand, I was looking through my Natively profile for 夢の端々, a manga I read just a few days ago, I read my Natively review for it and I even cross-referenced my post of it here:
…I remember absolutely nothing of this manga now that it’s been a few days, recollection is something I must practice too ![]()
Anyway, I’m eyeing around Marumori for a while, don’t really want to commit to it yet, especially since I found the big Best Japanese Learning Tools 2025 Award Show
by Autumn Skerritt and it’s a freaking amazing resource, Autumn went through all the language learning apps she found over the last two years and graded them, including some apps I haven’t heard of in the first place!
One thing she brought up is a script called Meikipop:
Too early to say yet, but we’re about at holidays, so I’ll be looking around ^^
Either way, I’m continuing to realize that reading (visual) novels and reading podcasts are the only things that matter and everything else is just a distraction, so, sigh ^^
Christmas markets! I promised a special post today C:
I took my mom all around Berlin to do some Christmas shopping and soak in the mood, and would you look at that, I just complained at monoculture going away and there’s this gigantic Avatar Fire and Ash poster now xddd
Probably will be seeing it before 2026 ^^
ACHTUNG HABIBIS ARE COMING TO HUG YOU
![]()
Today was the first time I ended up going to the Gendarmenmarkt, it’s central in Berlin and this is the only Christmas market for which you have to pay money for the entrance…
And I get it, there’s a lot of things for the price of the admission, even this corner sponsored by the European Union for some reason ^^
Everything was really prettily illuminated and there was a Christmas bear too ^^
A looot of DIY things, ornaments, clothes, MINION BULBS
so, yyyy, i’D RATHER NOT EAT THE GERM PASTRY WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU xdddd
We ended up getting some Kinderpunsch and the ceramic cups that we didn’t give the deposit back for, so they’re in our collection now, my Christmas Market cup collection is growing ^^
On the same note, here comes a kürtőskalács! People in Czechia for some reason would call it a trdelník and claim that this is a Prague thing, but make no mistake, it’s a Hungarian thing 100% ^^
And, of course, sigh, Labubu sweep xddd
It’s on my tiny Christmas tree already xddd
And of course, the Rotes Rathaus market, this is one of my favorite ones ^^
There’s a guide from Melissa Byron’s independent blog on the Christmas Markets in Berlin, because it’s just HOURS to write about, there are so many cool things there ^^
We ended up seeing something like ten markets today alone starting at 1pm and finishing at 9pm, and all of them were really close, so, hey, it was really great ^^
I got myself one manga in German, one book in German, one book in English and at my place I have a manga in Japanese and a book in Japanese, and maybe I’ll find a manga in English too, the pre-Christmas goal might be to read one of the manga-book combos in three languages and see how I do in them!
Okay, one last tangent and I’m out.
See you from Poland tomorrow! ^^
Oh don’t worry, I seem young to me too XD. Like my first response to some kids asking me if I’m married is “no I’m too young for that.” Culturally speaking 26 is a perfectly reasonable age to get married or even have kids and my first thought is “someone would trust ME with that kind of important decision?!? That’s too big of a decision, that’s for adultier adults than me.” Another thing is I am actually one of the advisors for my program and a 5th year so technically a senior but in my mind it feels like “why would anyone trust someone like me?! I’m young and stupid!” The ALT cohort has skewed older in recent years so even at 26 I’m still solidly in the middle of the pack for ages. My mother considers anyone under the age of 40 a kid and have to say I agree. So, still have many more years of being a kid!
i am one of those desperate 28 year olders who thinks she’s 18 and pretending she’s much younger than she actually is
something something taiga fujimura xdd
the scary thing is that most of the people around me and my older role models who have gotten into marriage and children, have done it at the mental state/age where they are definitely not suited to make those decisions and YYYYYYY
i am definitely a child for the purposes of christmas gifts at least ![]()
Ah yes, casually 1000 pages of manga xddd
But yeah, had a lot of time to think and read manga today on a car, and so I did, I’m almost in the midpoint of the story and the most recent games are becoming really, really long, I think the most recent game might have been at least a few volumes ^^
As for Metroid Prime 4, I’m still playing that game, but got to the point where the pacing of the game goes off the roof, and I heard that the first half of the game was supposed to be the good one and I must have missed the “good” part, I’m a little angry at it xddd
Also, I have four books and four mangas with myself, one in each of the four languages, I will attempt to read them over the course of the Christmas break and we’ll see how I do ^^
Today was a day mostly spent in a car: I really dislike cars and the whole culture of petrol stations at the highway, pulling over at McDonalds along the way, but if you haven’t done it in a while, it can be amusing too ^^
If there’s a thing I share with the Midwesterns though, it’s the culture of being raised on taking a two hour car ride to a shopping mall as the only third place in an area growing up, so here’s the Westfield Arkadia shopping mall in Warsaw xddd
We only pulled back for a bit to grab something to eat, some new books and maybe what would catch our eye, and hey, some cool things at the Empik bookstore today: they rerelease Polish classic books in a hardcover with a lot of pretty decorations to make people want to buy them again ^^
Lalka was on the list of compulsory reading at school and I would recommend it more for foreigners rather than Poles, because it does show an interesting breakdown of the Polish society at the beginning of 20th century, but if you’re hoping for 大逆転裁判-like environment, nope, that’s not this book ^^
Also, one day I might have a tangent about the Kosmos magazine, one of my reasons to go back to Poland is to be able to stock on them - Kosmos is a kids/teens magazine targetting a female demographic that has editors that write a lot of articles that resonate and vibrate even with adults, it has features on things that are not obvious growing up and sometimes you might not learn them at all - how to listen to your body, how to communicate with friends across cultures, how to dispel thick networks of lies, they are accessible to younger audience, but the content matter is definitely not capped at 11 years old ^^
Also, oh look, I just was exactly there in that incense factory a few months ago C:
On the note of Polish things you might not be familiar with, Pasibus chain of burgers, it started pretty small in Wrocław and has grown into one of the biggest chains in the country in the years that followed!
They do some hip branding, sometimes make their own merchandise, and want to be cool and hip with the kids, but from my experience, it does kinda work out? I feel more incentivized to see a Pasibus than a McDonalds or KFC truth to be said xddd
also, they make a thing called a “burger of the month” that goes away after the month and doesn’t come back, this month’s burger is called “Kevin”, I wonder where it came from
![]()
One thing that differs Poland and Germany is that Poland is way more trigger happy to run with technological progress, and in some areas this is very much welcome, but the screeching sound I made going into a toys store and seeing a section of jigsaw puzzles all being AI-generated, AAAAA xddd
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS
DONT DO THIS xdddd
Unfortunately, our car ride today was really long, so the shopping mall was basically the only sort of an adventure I’ve had today xddd
But yeah, some Christmas shopping has commenced and we’re down to 10 days until Christmas now! Or, 9 as I write this, probably ^^
So see you tomorrow everyone! Hopefully from my hometown, hopefully I’ll post something cool ^^
what a crummy thing to do, who even wants that?
On the brighter side, yes
, one
please
