It has been finished. xddd

Congrats to me, and now I’m in for reviews that will last a lifetime and a half :upside_down_face: :face_exhaling:

I thought that if I would get to this point, I would shout out a cheer of joy and pop open a can of Paulaner Spezi or something, but there’s this sense of “now what” that’s the most dominant feeling in my head instead xdd

I know I will probably have to continue Bunpro reviews and as a big part of the continuation, catch up on the reviews I needed to cheat not to flood me with 100+ reviews a day, so probably a piece of paper, a pen, and some manual writing, but at least the bar has been entirely filled, for the last time in i don’t know how long yet :sob:

I might sound a little salty, but having finished N2 on Bunpro I’m a little disillusioned with the service and a bit disillusioned with the study of Japanese in the first place, because Bunpro as a tool does a lot of things really well and I appreciate it so much… but right now, above all, I understand all of the posts people have been leaving over the Bunpro community complaining that the SRS doesn’t really work for them, and hoping for a change of the algorithm xdd

From what I perceive of Bunpro, it’s a really good tool for reviewing grammars that you already know, and maaaaybe cramming for an exam, but when it comes to learning new grammars, there have been so, SO many times I write something that seems like a synonym in my head, it turns red, I strike it out, I write another thing that seems like a synonym, it turns red, I strike it out, I follow it up with another thing that seems like a synonym in my head, it appears as orange, I strike it out, I have absolutely zero idea what the grammar is, I look up the answer, it’s been a grammar I had two months ago for the last time but is otherwise super obvious to me, it’s like ............

I think Bunpro’s main benefit might stem from doing the opposite of what it attempts to do, so instead of searching for the right grammar in your head, trying to understand what a specific grammar that appears on your screen might mean - similar to how WaniKani operates, ironically

But Bunpro feels like it shares a large amount of disadvantages with tools like KaniWani and if the remedy towards a poor recognition is to inflate your pile of reviews from 30 to 70 with ghosts, and you still don’t remember the items regardless, Bunpro is not really working out for me in the way I thought it would.

Well, I still have a longer while or so of using Bunpro ahead of me I imagine, but Bunpro really made me realize:

  • how great of an SRS WaniKani (and Anki) are
  • how much I prefer my actual in-person Japanese/German classes to learning Japanese with Bunpro as a tool
  • how @mitrac is probably onto something by using immersion as SRS instead of grinding contextless review points

Funnily enough, I remember having finished WaniKani at level 60 and having this huge crash of like “I’M DROPPING THIS PLATFORM IMMEDIATELY, NEVER AGAIN”, just to start feeling like it did work really well for me and I didn’t even realize it at the time; I wonder if Bunpro will also serve a similar purpose in my Japanese studies in the future.

But you know, if we assume I’ve probably used Bunpro lifetime across different trials and a lifetime account so far for something like 150 hours, and the estimation towards JLPT N2 is like 1200 hours (from a total zero), you can probably see that this tool still might be holding a lot of potential for me if I take this number from 150 to like, 300 hours or something.

I don’t feel like I’m very smart as a result of having finished lessons of N2 Bunpro, but that’s the issue with a deck site that always has more, and more, and more :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

I don’t know, my review of Bunpro is “I’m currently at the stage where it feels like it caused me more anguish than joy”/10, see you for an updated review in 2030 xdd

If anyone wanted to trade accounts on Bunpro, here’s my profile ^^

Also, Satori Reader was really sad today for some reason xdddd

No, I will not reconsider my life choices for now, except for maybe learning how to belt Savin Me by Nickelback so I can belt it as I read about withered trees coming out from people’s heads xdd

German

Today’s classes have been on healthcare system and sick leave system at work :eyes:

In Germany, a lot of different reasons can be used to request a sick leave, including a condition known as burnout (I wonder if they issue Bunpro ones! ^^), a doctor hands over a note that contains a period of time that a person is deemed unable to work for, they are allowed to do it without providing a specific reason, and the employer has an obligation of paying 100% of the salary over the time the sick leave is issued. This caps at 6 weeks, after which the institution paying for the sick employee becomes the Krankenkasse - healthcare system, and then the employers can start getting a little more nervous and a little more antsy ^^

One loophole that can get used to extend the sick leave beyond 6 weeks is to come back for one day after six weeks, and then apply for another 6-week long leave, though then it has to be for a different cause, more than six weeks for burnout for example over the span of a year already falls under Krankenkasse, but if you’re burnt out and out for 6 weeks, and then you snap your wrist and are out for another 6 weeks, it’s all fair play :folded_hands: xdd

One of the stories we’ve discussed today is about the Tesla factory in Brandenburg:

the single biggest manufacturing company in the whole Bundesland of Brandenburg and ironically enough, a workplace of many Poles crossing the border to work in there

The reason why the story came in today is that Tesla noticed that German employees take an unusual amount of sick leaves and was attempting to not pay employees over their sick leave periods, breaking German labor law, which like, good luck, the company will probably not make it for very long regardless xddd

Fun class today ^^

Life

Really sleepy today most of the day, as expected xddd

They’re doing an Expedition 33 in Berlin, omg how cool is that :eyes: xdd

I’m curious what it is, but not enough to actually go in there :upside_down_face:

One of my all time favorite YouTubers, Sarah Z, released a video on cheating scandals in chess, and she has this funny tone that makes everything she says sound both revered and mocking at the same time, so we stan :folded_hands:

Huge rainstorm today in Berlin, stayed a bit longer at the office and we’ve had some pulled noodles, but made it to German classes just fine and I’m just about to drift off to the world of sleep ^^

i was trying to be less political but i realized that my life is politics, both on a private and a professional level, so it’s kinda hard to separate one from another, I really wonder when are people going to start pushing back and telling me I’m full of shit xddd

See you tomorrow! C:
