Sheesh… Wow.
Like Mitrac (“how are your thighs not shredded”) …Honestly, I am blown away that you did this so day long!! That’s like your all day hiking but times infinity

Watching it on the Olympics is the closest I get
Well, that and giving myself a “2-years-to-heal” injury just trying to ski on a blue mountain trail (not a terrain park or jumps)… Although I have some Nordic official ancestry (if not much of the DNA) …I don’t have the skills for this sport

Wowee!!!

No it wasnt lying its objective truth (this is exactly how extreme sports work like :eyes:)

I DIDNT SAY THEY WERENT
even at the new years post i wrote that i cycle every single day that im in berlin (and will to work tomorrow) xddd

Actually, funny thing, I found this exact hill on a database called skisprungschanzen.com and if I were to get there I would prooobably beat the hill record from the hands of a 12-year old by then Sina Kiechle, who seems to have been the hope of women’s division of ski jumping one day, now she seems either retired or not updated on Wikipedia anymore xddd

But I did follow this plan ^^

okay, taking notes, the more dangerous something is, the cooler its perceived, NICE :sob: xddd

The good news is that i am a fan of “type 2 fun” every once in a while, the bad news is that if you subscribe for that reason, you will have to deal with posts like “oh yeah so there’s this cute lesbian manga- by the way today i went to a demo…”

Me too, the forces on the olympic hills (HS143) are unbelievably higher, not to mention that exactly today there has been a ski flying competition at a ski flying hill (HS235) in Austria. Today, a new record of that hill has been set… 245.5 meters.

ouch. xdddddd

So I was wondering what this manga was doing on my hard drive, I’m going through the digital tsundoku and I have found this one. I think I might have scraped this one just because it had a pretty cover xddd

It feels a bit like an isekai straight Life is Strange, except that the bit is that there is a elegant and revered woman who’s crushing on a man and then on page 15 or something, the man gets killed…

…and then she grabs his hand and she gets isekai’d to the same universe, but a few years in the past xddd

the first chapter of this story is really long, and that’s only been the first 20 pages, but what made me excited is that despite this manga being rated as level 26, I was able to read it just fine without too much issues, but this also meant that as soon as my eyes started drifting off, at 100 pages, I just put it away xddd

I think “reconsider the value of your time” is the best descriptor xddd

Today I found a sentence like this and I just did a tongue click and skimmed through 70% of this example, like come on xddd

Day 2.

As cool as I might be presenting myself, after yesterday, the power in my knees didn’t fully recover and I knew the jumping today would be a bit more difficult

We started off with some exercises to go downhill at different speeds to try to get used to them, and this unfortunately is my biggest problem, as I haven’t done alpine skiing in years: I struggled to maintain balance and slow down at the big speeds. But, bit by bit, slow and steady ^^

After some warmups and the first few jumps, the coaches took us with an elevator to the actual large hill (HS137) where they simulated us leaving the gate and going DOOOOOWN the hill, as the actual skiers do

For reference, they move at 90 kilometers per hour downhill at a hill like this, hit the slope even faster :sob:

I did sit on the high gate, they wired us with rope so that we wouldn’t fall and we just, looked down, and pretended it was us xddd

For a lot of skiers, once they board the actual gate, they make a cross sign to ask for divine providence to make sure that nothing would happen to them, just an extra bit of courage xddddd

But yeah, it was very inspiring to contemplate how risky something like this is, and then we went down and it was back to jumping!

I tried the HS42 again, and unfortunately crashed again at really fast: it was a bit slower this time around, but I still got a few new bruises, and I did apply Mitrac’s piece of advice though:

and i went to the top gate of the HS25 to do a few jumps from there! Still, scary as frick ^^

and yep, from that point on, my knees were giving in, so after falling from HS25 for the last time, I gave up 20 minutes ahead of time, five hours in :sob: :sob: :sob: xddd

andddd how did she do how did she do how did sh-

AYYYY C:

The ones from the advanced course who ended up going to HS42 have been around for at least a few sessions, so no point comparing myself to them, and 17.5m is DOUBLE the long jump world record, so hey, I’m really happy with my progression, especially on HS25! C:

(it was pasteurized and they would replace the milks each day, so hey, an entire liter of one C:)

Overall, my lord, what an adventure. I still feel all the bruises and violet spots around the body, but when I think retroactively about it, I’m really glad I didn’t chicken out today and I went as well! We traded a lot of compliments between one another, I was told that I was really brave to keep standing up after the falls, I told the others that they were really brave for attacking the higher hill, the trainer was really surprised with my progress over the last two days, I jumped on a train and I’m writing this from home in Berlin now C:

…overall, I genuinely didn’t intend for my February to be as busy as it was
it feels like every weekend there was something new happening, and I still have something else for the next weekend as well, though don’t expect being on TV/WaniKani friend + Yuri Cafe in NYC/Pokemon International Championships in London/Berlinale in Berlin/Ski Jumping in Oberstdorf from this xddd

it’s great that tomorrow is saturday, right? weekend, finally! can’t wait to rest up…

…right…?

see you tomorrow ^^

I don’t necessarily want to make it a target, knowing it’s a bit of an extra stress to the schedule, but I do have a “two pages できる” role on A Durtle’s Refuge and it’s be nice to prove I belong there by proving that I am capable of two pages xddd

So today, it’s the second book of the 成瀬 series, which I’ve had on my device for a while

The intro is a little silly, a little light-hearted, not what I expected from the first book, but it does try to bridge the change of pace with the 膳所から世界へ!!!!! quote C:

I also did call my library today to ask them to hold onto my Japanese books for a little longer xddd

As for 死に戻りの魔法学校生活を、元恋人とプロローグから, I fiiiinally understood how did it make it onto my download list ^^

No, it’s not yuri, it’s very 少女-coded with a hyper female protagonist and an unresponsive male protagonist, seemingly incapable of deep emotion xddd

here’s how their reactions to the world differ ^^

as before, really happy I was able to read it without many aids and i didnt stop at many sentences at all, it’s sweet, and the second volume also has been made available for free…

Though, Kino International finally opened after 1.5 years of renovation! It’s an iconic piece of Berlin culture, but the last time I was there, it kind of did suck, so I’m a little apprehensive of going there ^^

No signs of winter in Berlin anymore, today was a no-coat weather C:

I tried pulling by a foodcourt and I did get some 牛うどん today and tried to make an order in Japanese, but because of the German adventures on the weekend, I lost my words in the middle of a sentence and put the nastiest English/German/Polish accent with tones along the way, which is what you get when you don’t use the language much xddd

It was pretty tasty though, so, hey ^^

Time to get some rest, see you tomorrow!

So as a bit of trivia, the JDZB in Berlin opened registration slots for JLPT: they mentioned exactly the amount of people that would be able to participate in advance, N2 would only have 24 slots, or something similar. Normally I go to Düsseldorf, but I was curious this time ^^

The registration was meant to be open for two weeks or until they run out of seats.

The slots opened at 1PM today… and this is how the website looked like at 1:30PM xdddd

I wonder if they’ll ever increase the amount of spots for the exam, because even in Düsseldorf like 110+ people wrote N2, and there might be a few more international people in Berlin. Oh well, who knows ^^

On the planet the-slowest-read-through-成瀬-two-pages-できる, I found a few fun expressions today C:

actively trying to think what could that be for me ^^

Also, I knew this one from 勿体無い, so I was wondering what 勿体ぶる could’ve meant, and it’s not what I expected, so huh ^^

And back to reading 違国日記, my three moods:

just download google maps or something idk :sob:

very low energy day today, spent a big part of it at home catching up on the internet ^^

and who would’ve guessed, it turns out Pokopia is a really good game!

There’s a lot of people around me that are very big into Pokemon recently, including the International Championships, so I watched Wolfey’s recording of the desperate attempt to make a Bug team in Scarlet/Violet work ^^

also, what is THIS xddd

got a new nail inspiration for one day, i haven’t tried it yet ^^

why do july seats always go so fast

It’s wild that they make room for so few people to start with, I guess it’s hard to proctor maybe? Hard to gauge how many people are interested?

For some reason, looking back over your ski pix from the last week, I was inspired to look up “What do the Japanese call a Flying Squirrel?” It is ムササビ (鼯鼠) and I did check and normal squirrel is リス (栗鼠)

OMG, I found this very inspiring for nails!
I saw how they can do a fade between two colors (to do the “cola” fade), by painting them next to each other, and then blending them into each other with a dry brush before UV curing …YouTube link
Then put refreshing water dots of clear acrylic here and there on top for the “water sparkles”. YouTube link OR link
I get really far with certain nail artists by showing them pictures and videos like this. Then they go “I see exactly what you want”

YAY! Here, too. But then immediately get cold again

On a trip to Poland, I will make a point of it.
I must go visit my Cleaning People’s place there (“my other parents”)… I’ll see where it is. I think it’s in the North East of Poland…

I can report than in Paris, all places were filled in within ONE HOUR. ONE FREAKING HOUR

Edit: and we are talking about one of the biggest language institutions in Europe (if not the world).

It’s actually sad that there is such a limitation on seats. I wonder what they need to be encouraged to scale it up… Particularly if sometimes future depends on it

TWENTY FOUR?!? That’s criminal. All places should do it like Japan does which has a free for all with the sign ups then books locations (usually university classrooms) based on how many sign up. Taking the JLPT abroad sounds like absolute nonsense.

It kind of sucks if you live in the south because they stopped offering Atlanta as a test site last year, so it’s Washington, Houston, and Miami that are closest. Which road trip sounds most pleasant? I don’t exactly need the JLPT for anything but it’d be nice to have in a couple years I think.

One thing I really appreciate about the 違国日記 manga is the really minimalist presentation, but every strike of the pencil, or even the lacks of it, feels intentful and emotional, so would recommend C:

I haven’t seen the anime in a while, I wonder how would they adapt some of those scenes

also, awwww, such a cute expression C:

if you look just at the expression “to hit a hurting place”, 痛いところをつく, it does imply to “to hit a nerve” as well C:

emmmm IM NOT SURE THIS IS HOW YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE PUTTING IN PLANTS???

I mean if you water them from above then a lot of the water will stay in the ground???
(if they weren’t artificial ^^)

Two recommendations from the book club today! First, a tragicomedy westaboo comic, Alison Bechdel, it does go for a pretty artstyle, but the fun with this one is that the actual title is a “funeral home” and it’s a story of family members all being broken and not being there for one another C:
It’s queer with openly queer family members, I just opened it on a random page and it has the phrase “i caused his death by telling my parents i was a lesbian” is just a cherry on top C:

And then, I FINALLY was able to get someone into manga as well xdd
This thick volume of Monster is interesting because the manga takes place in Düsseldorf, and likewise, does reflect the buildings from it! I’ve never read monster before, but hearing DEUTSCHLAND MENTIONED :flag_de: is making me more interested ^^

Today we spoke about homeschooling, self-publishing novels and zines, how languages that try to not have swear words (like Japanese) differ from languages where you swear every five words (Polish or Russian), or how swearing with usual words is just considered lame (German) ^^

Also, maladaptive daydreaming! Always a great topic, turns out autistic/neurodivergent people all have our own stories of randomly standing somewhere for an hour or two regularly and pretending you’re somewhere else as children, so, it’s fun to hear you’re not alone in this one C:

Anyway,

HAPPY EARLY WOMENS DAY BTW :DDDDD

Another travel adventure tomorrow, see you tomorrow! ^^

AHHHH, MONSTER MENTIONED YEAHHHH :speaking_head::tada::tada:
I love this series soo much!! :heart_hands: I’ve only read it in English, but want to re-read it in Japanese someday!!

I haven’t read all his works yet, but Monster isn’t his only manga where Germany or German characters make an appearance!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
