tfw I’ll never have a day like today again xddd
But yeah, it’s the weather, it’s the darkness, it’s the rain, I’m trying to get my mind busy inside, but rumors suggest spring might finally come next Friday finally xddd
Anyway, Japanese:
tfw you’ve played Pokemon for like, 20 years and you still don’t know what does this word mean in English xdd
It’s also really similar to 株 and I don’t differentiate them instantly, but just the info that this is probably a color is enough ^^
So there is this resource catalog:
I was procrastinating on checking extra resources for Japanese because, like, my current set of tools is probably good enough, but them I found out that this document has a Chrome extension called asbplayer that allows for you to insert any .srt/.ass file into any video stream out there, and have the subtitles be readable by yomitan, and this turned out to be an actual GAME CHANGER
The big thing is that my listening comprehension and reading the subtitles overall are some of the weakest skills that I have in Japanese, so when I realized that this extension can help me with both at the same time, plus it makes me read faster, plus it makes me extract grammar from the source material, plus it gets me comfortable with not knowing every word when you see the subtitles, i have a feeling that I might find what I was looking for in terms of Japanese study
I sometimes look at the statistics that people like Malinkal or Mitrac are making and the amount of time they spend on reviews, @araigoshi just updated this chart today, and even though I feel like I learn a similar amount of time to them, it just makes me wonder, if learning by reading manga/using SRS is less effective because with manga it takes you longer to read and with SRS you don’t learn things in context?
So who knows, maybe I’ll become an ANIME WATCHER now, this might be the most efficient way to learn Japanese for me, period: both reading and listening and autoscroller at the same time.
Most likely won’t, but fair play xdd
Sooo rapid fire today:
- 葬送のフリーレン: I love how the main character of this chapter is introduced on the very last page, has exactly one line and absolutely steals the show xddd
Volume 6 is done, I’m free not to bring the volume with myself to places anymore!
- ささやくように恋を唄う: it got really dark at the end of the fifth chapter, also pretty relatable because I’ve realized that when I get attached to people it doesn’t even occur for me to ask if the attachment is reciprocated, so WHOOPS, poor ひまり

Finished Volume 1!
- ウィッチウォッチ: the manga covers were extremely misleading compared to the actual content, I’m a bit let down by episode 1, but I think I could vibe with it regardless, just wouldn’t be my favorite series ever xdd
- CITY THE ANIMATION: reading/listening comprehension definitely suffered on this one, but I LOVED how many jokes were being set up in the first episodes and were paying off just a few seconds later, I didn’t get all of those, but the ones I got have indeed been hilarious ^^
- その着せ替え人形は恋をする: heard many… stories about this anime, I think the characters in it are pretty cute so far, episode 1 reeked of having been played out many times already, but it was the easiest one to read/listen to today, so we stan ^^
- New PANTY&STOCKING with GARTERBELT: freaking incredible xddd
Season 1’s soundtrack is a contender for the best album of all time, some of the tracks are reused, some are new, and the plot is super cunty and bitchy, I loved the objectification of every character in the frame and I think I could unironically vibe to it, so heavy recommendation for as long as you let Mr. Jesus know in advance xdd
- ポケモンスカーレット: tongue click xdd
I really want to like this game, but it wastes so much of my time, but if I don’t play it, I just watch YouTube video essays in English, so at least I’m getting something study related from it xddd
Anyway, here is what I managed to read back to back and every chapter from them this year so far;
Considering that this list only recently started growing, pretty proud of myself regardless xdd
Life
Went to a space called Pausify, it’s an event sponsored by the German government that takes place right next to the Berlin Central Station twice a week, because the ex-WaniKani friend invited me there ^^
The event was a silent book club, 30 minutes to chat with people, an hour of silent reading, and then a discussion panel. They also had those fun stickers you could get aaand I got distracted and didn’t end up getting any xddd
I read ささこい, finished the first volume and followed up with bits of フリーレン, that was what an hour bought me, and then the panel had this fun little cube you would put at “3 minutes” and everyone had 3 minutes to introduce their book before the time ran out:
I think the introduction of コミック百合姫 went pretty well for me, except for the fact that nobody else had the context on what I was reading and I needed to speak at 300 words per minute to get people through the basics in 3 minutes xddd
Other books were pretty mainstream and I don’t think anyone at the discussion table brought anything majorly challenging, but I’m still down for some 3 minute pandering of Why The Germans Do It Better xddd
Three minutes time is definitely not enough to get interesting discussions out of people, so I was a bittt disappointed by the conversations today, but then we went to the Hauptbahnhof for a lunch and that was the nicer part of the event ^^
I could see myself going there in the future, but out of the three book clubs I’m going to, this one was the weakest for today probably
AND YOU HAVE TO PAY €9.90 TO ACCESS IT (or €14.90 monthly)
BUT YOU GET A STICKER (unless you get distracted) AND SNACKS (unless you get distracted) xdddd
In front of the central station, there was a pan-African fair today, with all sorts of handmade and DIY (presumably) items that you could get, really colorful, I liked those C:
And also, Labubu craze had reached my favorite bubble tea place, Comebuy, aren’t they pretty xddd
German Shinjuku station be like:
Tomorrow, I’m setting off for a Works Council seminar in Bremen, I hope to get a nice walk around the town as well, though I probably should bring a rain coat at least, just in case xddd
So see you from Bremen tomorrow!
