A Certain Bidoof's Multi-Language Travel & Friends & Languages Usage Arc 🇯🇵 🇩🇪 🇨🇦 🇵🇱

That’s something I was wondering for years as well, but I haven’t been able to find an answer asking people or looking online
According to the sources I found, it’s a logistics thing and people wanted to have something to celebrate in the later part of the summer, they just wanted to coordinate all of the deliveries and the date naturally drifted off to the last Saturday of July, but depending on the area of Germany, the CSD parades take place between May and August

The article linked above says that Pride Month in Berlin starts at the end of June and it keeps going until July and CSD is supposed to be the culmination of all of the events

Anyway, started watching videos about the event yesterday, the slogan was “nie wieder still” - “never again silent”, and yes, it wasn’t just my impression:

We were walking right next to the Axel Springer truck, that was roped off from the distance, if you were curious who that is: it’s an establishment right-leaning media agency that silences specific voices and amplifies the more conservative ones

And also, the politicians:

Really curious what is the world turning to :upside_down_face:

Ohh wow that’s very interesting, thanks! I guess it’s also nice in a way cause it’s like a march for pride and also disability pride simultaneously :")

LOVE THIS. We need more of this in my country sigh

It’s going (or has gone :frowning: ) from a world where most people would try to examine the facts and then develop opinions on issues to one where people examine their opinions and then develop their own facts. Between that an incessant rush to scapegoat those who are “different” (nationality, ethnicity, LGBTQ+, etc.) to keep everyone riled up and more willing to put aside fundamental human rights in order to punish the “outsiders” it’s definitely a challenging world right now. Social media bubbles only exacerbate that too, unfortunately. But hopefully the marches have some positive effect!

  • Panel: 写真の中のピーターパン by 植田佳奈
  • Panel: こじらせろ!百合妄想!「あかね噺」
  • Manga: ドイツのBL女子が百合に出会って女王と呼ばれるようになった話

ah yes, i was craving for someone to deutschxplain/日本語xplain me what Tumblr is xdd

the section of コミック百合姫 that is calledドイツのBL女子が百合に出会って女王と呼ばれるようになった話 by ムロマキ explains slang words from the English side of the internet, and there are gems such as

  • girlfailure (彼女失敗),
  • yuri goggles (百合眼鏡),
  • canon/fanon yuri (公式/妄想百合),
  • nail clipping (爪切り)

xddd

Girl failure explanation went for a bit too long, I got the point in the first panel already xddd

The panel about 写真の中のピーターパン was about the experience of playing Wendy in a high school show, and making great memories, and こじらせろ!百合妄想! was inventing new fanon pairings for あかね噺 that the author was surprised was even serialized in Shounen Jump in the first place

Those were some looooong panels and my reading comprehension was zoning in and out, but I read almost all of the characters in those texts except for names without having to look anything up, so I’m pretty proud of myself regardless ^^

At the very end of the magazine, mangakas that contributed the individual stories were asked what’s their music they’re into now, 今一番ハマっている曲はなんですか, and as I read that, I was like “omg, they use the german word HAMMER as in something great xddd”, but no, it’s ハマる :sob: xdd

Anyway, a few recommendations from what I read, Ado - エルフ:

乃紫 - A8番出口

緑黄色社会 - Mela!

You can find the whole list (including Tetris xddd) below:

Anyway, this marks the fact that I just finished reading the exactly-600-pages long yuri magazine, コミック百合姫7月号, back to back, every feature inside of it, it was a banger xddd

I think I liked the July issue more than the February one, but maybe because this time I was familiar with the structure and took a bit of a longer time to understand the magazine
The middle-schoolgirl and porn mangas were a bit of a miss to me, but one-shots are really nice and ヒモ吸血鬼が出ていかない was a banger ^^

So today’s Japanese block was around 2 hours again xddd

Life

…I don’t know what to say xdd
The weather is getting the best of me, I’m really feeling under the weather and have been so for the whole week, for a variety of reasons.
On the upside, I have friends who care about me and we spend long time together and have great adventures together, on the other, I’m really, really worn out in terms of life and I wonder what’s the reason for that. Japanese study keeps me sharp and gets me upright, I’m 100% sure that I’d sleep today away if it weren’t for Japanese and forcing myself to do physical activity xdd

I’ve started supplementing myself with Vitamin D again today, because I can’t think of a reason why all my bones feel so fatigued, we’ll see if that’s it.

Genuinely don’t know if there’s anything else I could do to stop feeling the way I do right now, so hey, if you have any recommendations, any big hobby topics you could get me into, I’m definitely down to reading them, I’ll be on the lookout around others’ study logs!

But I went to a flea market (flohmarkt) today, the biggest one in Berlin, at Mauerpark, and if you’ve been there a few times already, you start recognizing your favorite artists and their works of art ^^

There’s this one who turns every piece of plastic into earrings! Really cool!

And one that draws cats over everything, great for things like birthday gifts or something ^^

Also, stickers and film posters, if my sticker collection wasn’t big enough already xddd

And a lot of pins, sometimes people come with hundreds of pins and they just try to sell them ^^

I kinda want to get one of those shirts, if I put my hair up, that just elevates the tomboy look to the next level ^^

Either way, back to work tomorrow, see you tomorrow!

Well, I do read much faster but the amount of words I have to look up doesn’t go down that fast xddd

(same words but in text format)

複製体
予測
健闘
破滅の雷を
千福して
遺言状
皇帝
認可
贅沢
周辺諸国
わずか
抗う力
くだらない
急かされている
築き上げて

I do admit that with furigana though it’s much faster to look up specific words on DeepL/Google Translate, but there’s still a crazy amount of stuff I’ve never seen before/never internalized well and as a result, reading Frieren feels pretty difficult, but not as slow as it used to be.

I’m a bit behind the book club, a dream scenario would be for me to catch up and speed up and read different things as well, but even having one chapter a day is already pretty challenging, so let’s keep it going for now ^^

On the side of Bunpro, I finally know how to use causative and it comes to me pretty fast:

に加えて and のみならず??? what’s that, never seen those :sob: xddd

And today’s reviews on WaniKani took a while again, I finished final lessons from level 41, but the velocity is only speeding up, so wheeee C:

Life

I GOT PAID TODAY

this feeling when you can afford to just go out and buy yourself some food on your own xddd

this feeling when you can buy toilet paper for your place without budgeting whether you can afford to get it today or not xddddd

I also did a ton of paying bills and booking things today, because, Gamescom! It’s a thing! I booked all of the accommodations across NRW places and it turns out some of my older friends from the internet have finally been able to organize and make it there, I haven’t talked to most of them in years, but looking at their internet activity, it’s the same old, wonder if it’s gonna be as if we never parted ways when we meet up ^^

NRW is so endlessly endearing when it comes to regional trains

I have a physical map of the 2023 edition somewhere and mark all of the stations I’ve been with pink, so three new spots are set to arrive after Gamescom this year ^^

There’s a German price comparison website called CHECK24 where you can affordably change your services and get a discount while doing that, so I got myself lost there today trying to change services to pay less for them in the future, and I found one electricity provider that’s twice as cheap as my current one today and I’m wondering where’s the catch................

......well, your data most likely will be sold, it’s a data-driven world after all xddd

I didn’t want to spend all of my money today, but there’s a Fanatical bundle right now with a Capcom summer bundle and tHE BANGERS FROM SHU TAKUMI, both Ghost Trick and 大逆転裁判 for 12,99 € if bought together, there’s some Resident Evils and Mega Mans, would recommend the bundle just for the Shu Takumi ones to study Japanese with, but for now I have enough source material, need to get around to reading more and faster xddd

Also, Toby Fox made a website called memories.undertale.com that sadly is no longer active right now, but I was able to submit my memory of Undertale in there, and look how it all came together C:

Tomorrow, bouldering with friends in the morning, then, work, then, we’ll see ^^

Take care everyone and see you tomorrow!

The 54th chapter of Frieren felt very much exposition, even more so than usual, so I kept aggressively thinking that i’ve never seen that word and going like “aaa what is this word” and then being reminded that it’s 措置 and I’ve seen it many times already xdd

(speaking of, i messed this word up on WaniKani today, at least I’ll remember now xdd)

There was a kanji for 鋏, I got that it was supposed to be :scissors: from the furigana already, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen kanji for it :eyes:

Obligatory favorite part of this chapter is calling 複製隊 with the 振り仮名 of てき xdd

Also, I wonder if it’s something that’s in the public consciousness in the Japanese people that 迷宮 is supposed to be read as ダンジョン or is it a Frieren-only thing xdd

They probably prefer to write katakana regardless ^^

Aaanyway, Bunpro, this grammar is so wonky:

I finally got it correct today, but it just feels like it doesn’t belong in a sentence, it just feels wrong xddd

And 狐の嫁入り, I don’t want to sound negative, but 20 episodes in, it just doesn’t resonate with me like the other stories do :sob:
But I’ll keep going, maybe there is something I’m still missing

Life

For the fans of the bouldering adventure, today I saw new courses being installed… and betatested at the same time xddd

I don’t know, I just assumed that they generate layouts with the computer and then they just put them together, but noo, it’s an iterative process of trial and error in real time based on the difficulty they want to invoke :eyes:

Went with a friend and I showed her some of the blue courses that seemed reasonable, she didn’t climb any today, but she committed to going to a gym and strengthening her upper body so that the next time we meet, we might be able to do the more difficult ones, but she’s well into the green territory already ^^

By the way, I was able to clear three blues in total already, according to an experienced boulder friend of mine, all three are of a “6A” difficulty, so this is where I stand today: pretty proud of myself anyway! C:

We’re probably going next Tuesday too ^^

ICH BALALALALA-

Thalia (German Waterstones/Barnes & Noble) in Mall of Berlin added Asian snacks section to consume as you consume books, and yes, they’re overpriced, but it’s sweet they have a new collection in the first place ^^

But seeing them, I decided to go to an actual Asian market and get myself an Espurr xdd

I had high hopes being like “YESS THIS WILL MOTIVATE ME TO PLAY POKEMON IN JAPANESE TODAY” and nope, no dice, sofa consumed me and I sunk in it today xdd

also omg LIMITED EDITION LABUBU

I think they call the bootlegs of the bootlegs something like “Lafufu”, so this Lafufu is the defender of Capri Suns xddd C:

i saw the lessons show up again and i’ll probably have to get around to them soon, but for now i’m still stuck on my 25 ghosts and repeatedly typing のみならず wrong xdd

My today’s review of WaniKani was rapid fast and rapid accurate, only 35 minutes at 97% accuracy, so happy for the fact fight or flight worked, upset about the fact it had to be used in the first place xdd

Life

Ah yeah, cycling through Berlin at 3:00am in the morning, gotta love it xdd

Sometimes when you see those weird words, like red blazing in your eyes, you go like “what were you trying to say” xddd

I think it’s going to be equally as bizarre to me tomorrow as it is today xdd

But yeah, queer book club today, we had the full cast today and one girl brought a field book report of Andrea Dworkin, who found an idea at the center of all of the issues of feminism, and apparently… that’s explicit sexual content xdd

The books were very influential in the second wave of the feminism (last ones that hit the Japan, by the way xdd), but there are some ideas that raise the eyebrows pretty significantly in 2025, especially the idea of future extermination of the class of women, which seemingly did not happen yet  ^^ xddd

But yeah, it’s very late so I’ll just stay I stayed a bit longer than I expected because the conversations after midnight with sleep deprived people are always the best and it was great xdd

So see you tomorrow, I’ll have a longer update tomorrow, hopefully ^^

Catching up for the manga chapter I didn’t read yesterday ^^
I didn’t expect how exposition-heavy this chapter of Frieren would be, when I looked at the amount of text

I just melted xdd

ITS A FULL ON BOOK AT THIS POINT, but yeah, that was the chapter everyone was waiting for, nice that I was able to read until here in Japanese ^^

On the other hand, ささやくように恋を唄う was a manga that was on my radar for a while, and yeah, diet version of 気になってる人 xddd

Upsides: it used pretty easy Japanese and I was able to understand almost everything without needing to look up too many things, but I’m glad I did, because I learned a few important words that will leak into other Japanese reading for sure ^^

下駄箱 - げたばこ - shoe locker
一目ボレ - falling in love at the first sight, well it was really played out in this chapter xdd
And absolute banger quote from this chapter, もっとボレさせるから覚悟してね  C:

Bunpro: finished the N2 grammar today once again, I like how on the nose the に値する grammar is xdd

But it’s used in standard register, so I can’t wait for them to use it in ささやくように。。。xddd

Also, two stories on Satori Reader I was reading came to an end,
枯れた木:

Short but peak fiction xdddd
It’s very memeworthy from somewhere like chapter 10 on, the ending delivered xddd

幸せの木:

The epilogue beat had a lot of PSAs about gay people’s living conditions in Japan, and yeah, we’re not free until everyone is free, so I hope Japanese gay people will be able to win their fight, but I’m probably not the target audience for those PSAs, I’m just happy 勝 got his bittersweet ending in the end ^^

And the most important one:
GUESS WHOS LEVEL 44 ON WANIKANI

Level 44 autounlocked 31 items and only 30 are necessary to level up, so I’ll just do the regular 15 lessons today and tomorrow and should be on track as per usual ^^

Anyway, nice day in terms of Japanese, I have one more thing but I’ll drop it in Life ^^

Life

(thats u btw)

Today, a new Arcsys game released, called 「Dear me, I was…」, it’s from the same people that did Another Code: Recollection last year. I was pretty reluctant to engage in it at first, knowing that I want to play stuff in Japanese and that I don’t have that much time, but it’s a game where almost everything is told through images and sound design, and the length of the game is 45 minutes, so I decided to give it a shot.

and. it. was. beautiful. oh my lord.

Switch 2 exclusive finally worth getting the console for xddd

On a more serious note, the protagonist was very relatable and the story definitely played the Class S beats that felt pretty nostalgic to me personally as well, the presentation felt really great, but there were a couple of moments throughout the middle chapters when I was preparing myself to go like, SIGHHHH, but then by the time the epilogue dropped, I haven’t dropped a single sigh and I managed to gasp instead ^^

I immediately started looking for stuff related to the game afterwards and found a tiny snippet of the target demographic for it:

it seems i might have grown into 女性 demographic xdd

I traced this statement to the announcement video of the people behind the game:

And yeah, easy to follow Japanese, nice to see the people that worked on it ^^
I probably should play Another Code in Japanese one day, I know I’ll love it as well ^^

Either way, by the time I finished this game I was left with such fuzzy feelings and I was really positively surprised by the direction where the story went, it could’ve stopped being special like three or four times, but each time the game made a conscious decision to pivot away from stereotypical storytelling and started feeling more like somebody holding a mirror in front of myself, so, ehhh. Being a woman in your late 20s, what a concept. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Annyway aside from that I slept like 4 hours today and was really really tired and took two naps over the course of the day and I might not be able to easily fall asleep now xdd
The goal for the weekend is to regulate my sleeping cycle xddd

Fun day today anyway, I might have a friend at my place tomorrow, so see you tomorrow everyone!

I use that it’s great! Just check out the company you switch to, the only catch is some are legit terrible. But we switch often, not always the absolute cheapest, and it saves us a lot.

I was really hoping the voice actress for this sentence would carry this one:

but the delivery was flat and disappointing xdd

I imagine that when the voice actors for Bunpro are locked in a studio for a whole day, they can’t get themselves to go for take #12 of grammar #542 sentence #24, so we theater kids are taking an L xddd

Until ささやくように恋を唄う第2話, because theater kids are absolutely not taking an L in this chapter and ひまり is brilliant ^^
The second chapter mirrored the first one, but the POV was different and hearing how embarrassed 依先輩 was fun ^^

Also, after 疲労の疲, another kanji that’s in an obvious word I always read correctly, 往復の復, is not sticking with me easily

this kanji just looks weird, I went like “luck”, no, “duplicate”, no, maybe I should play the visually similar kanji game on MaruMori one day again xddd

Throwing friends at the depths of 200cc if they’ve never played Mario Kart 8 before, why not, I’ll bite xddd

Nah, she really surprised me, we played all of the courses of Mario Kart World together and Special Cup to play through Rainbow Road with the only intersection at the game that doesn’t suck, then we joined online and got absolutely obliterated in all of the modes by randoms xdd
In Mario Kart World, because there’s no 200cc in there, she was consistently high on the list, muscle memory from Mario Kart Wii did carry over ^^

Fun to have a person you can invite to sit on a sofa with and then just Mario Kart away ^^

Today, on August 1st, Poland commemorates the start of the Warsaw Uprising, a very brazen attempt by Poland to regain independence in the wake of Nazis getting beaten up by Soviet Union, the uprising had disastrous consequences and a ton of Warsaw was just eradicated as a result, so now that Warsaw is mostly rebuilt, Poland is attempting to remember the names of the people who fought and died trying, and as you can see, Berlin is doing so as well :eyes:

There were a few Polish and German politicians in front of this building delivering speeches and giving mutual reassurances of care and trust, I wonder what’s Kyiv going to look like in a few decades or something.

Here’s one from today from Warsaw, Pałacyk Michla, Żytnia Wola, bronią jej chłopcy od parasola, choć na tygrysy mają visy, to Warszawiaki fajne chłopaki są ^^

Or, in other words,

:watermelon: :watermelon: :watermelon:

very tasty yees C:

eee… plans, yeah, i could probably benefit from a plan xddd

For the ones that still haven’t read it, mitrac made this huge post recapping some of the experiments and how the language study is affected and, while I feel so humbled by mitrac in comparison and don’t even know where to get started with this post (xddd), but there was one thought in there that challenged me:

and my answer is that… I don’t know :eyes:
It will definitely become detrimental to my Japanese study as the time goes on, so it would be great to find an answer, because the most honest answer for me today is “the most enjoyable thing is knowing Japanese and not having to learn it and not having words I don’t understand and not having sentences I don’t understand even though I know all of the words”, so we’re getting there xddd

Frieren had a fun word to describe that, ブチギレてる (losing it), 10/10 mood setter xdd

I like to think I do pretty well with kanji though, and kanji are friends, so I’m going to be resorting to them and never play Pokemon HeartGold or anything before that because they only have kana xddddddd

So that’s going to be the 動揺 for today, new word for today btw xdd

It means “emotional turmoil” xddd

But life is an adventure and we’re slowly figuring answers one…

Today at the book swap, I got DRAGON SLAYER to tag along and he had an amazing outfit, I brought an analog camera with me and took his picture, if I manage to develop the film before he goes back to Canada, I’ll try to give him the actual copy xddd

Also, there was one book called Without Buddha I Could Not be a Christian, which looked pretty uninteresting uNTIL somebody opened the book and found out that the previous owner of this book set out for a full on religious/cultural war with the author xdddddddd

All over the book, similar comments have been left and I found them so amusing xddd
I didn’t end up snagging the book in the end, somebody else was even more amused by them than me, but I’m so interested in the fact a person like that even existed xddd

As an afterparty of the event, we went over to an American-sixties-themed diner in Berlin and for the fellow Americans in this thread, you can let me know how authentic do you consider the decor to be xddd

From my little exposure to diners over the Far From Home Arc, it did look pretty authentic, and unfortunately, taste so as well (xddd)

but hey, it was fun to see different people respond to their 2000kcal calorie bombs at 8 or 9pm ^^

Really glad that I have such cool friend circles though and that DRAGON SLAYER felt like he could also intersect with this community too, so hey, I need to look around if there’s a march in August we could go to together ^^

Anyway, I agreed to go to a Silent Book Club tomorrow and I will attempt to read Japanese (proobably manga), so see you tomorrow and take care yall ^^

Well it looks more like the US than Berlin :joy:
And in the US it looks like a tourist trap but that’s probably not fair depending on the area and whether they could afford to remodel in the last 60 years jk. There are a lot of truck stops and small town cafes that have elements of that vibe so ok I’ll stop being grumpy and say some things in America are cute like that when you see a genuine version

tfw I’ll never have a day like today again xddd

But yeah, it’s the weather, it’s the darkness, it’s the rain, I’m trying to get my mind busy inside, but rumors suggest spring might finally come next Friday finally xddd

Anyway, Japanese:

tfw you’ve played Pokemon for like, 20 years and you still don’t know what does this word mean in English xdd
It’s also really similar to 株 and I don’t differentiate them instantly, but just the info that this is probably a color is enough ^^

So there is this resource catalog:

I was procrastinating on checking extra resources for Japanese because, like, my current set of tools is probably good enough, but them I found out that this document has a Chrome extension called asbplayer that allows for you to insert any .srt/.ass file into any video stream out there, and have the subtitles be readable by yomitan, and this turned out to be an actual GAME CHANGER

The big thing is that my listening comprehension and reading the subtitles overall are some of the weakest skills that I have in Japanese, so when I realized that this extension can help me with both at the same time, plus it makes me read faster, plus it makes me extract grammar from the source material, plus it gets me comfortable with not knowing every word when you see the subtitles, i have a feeling that I might find what I was looking for in terms of Japanese study :eyes:

I sometimes look at the statistics that people like Malinkal or Mitrac are making and the amount of time they spend on reviews, @araigoshi just updated this chart today, and even though I feel like I learn a similar amount of time to them, it just makes me wonder, if learning by reading manga/using SRS is less effective because with manga it takes you longer to read and with SRS you don’t learn things in context?

So who knows, maybe I’ll become an ANIME WATCHER now, this might be the most efficient way to learn Japanese for me, period: both reading and listening and autoscroller at the same time.
Most likely won’t, but fair play xdd

Sooo rapid fire today:

  • 葬送のフリーレン: I love how the main character of this chapter is introduced on the very last page, has exactly one line and absolutely steals the show xddd
Volume 6 is done, I’m free not to bring the volume with myself to places anymore!
  • ささやくように恋を唄う: it got really dark at the end of the fifth chapter, also pretty relatable because I’ve realized that when I get attached to people it doesn’t even occur for me to ask if the attachment is reciprocated, so WHOOPS, poor ひまり :sob:
    Finished Volume 1!
  • ウィッチウォッチ: the manga covers were extremely misleading compared to the actual content, I’m a bit let down by episode 1, but I think I could vibe with it regardless, just wouldn’t be my favorite series ever xdd
  • CITY THE ANIMATION: reading/listening comprehension definitely suffered on this one, but I LOVED how many jokes were being set up in the first episodes and were paying off just a few seconds later, I didn’t get all of those, but the ones I got have indeed been hilarious ^^
  • その着せ替え人形は恋をする: heard many… stories about this anime, I think the characters in it are pretty cute so far, episode 1 reeked of having been played out many times already, but it was the easiest one to read/listen to today, so we stan ^^
  • New PANTY&STOCKING with GARTERBELT: freaking incredible xddd
Season 1’s soundtrack is a contender for the best album of all time, some of the tracks are reused, some are new, and the plot is super cunty and bitchy, I loved the objectification of every character in the frame and I think I could unironically vibe to it, so heavy recommendation for as long as you let Mr. Jesus know in advance xdd
  • ポケモンスカーレット: tongue click xdd
I really want to like this game, but it wastes so much of my time, but if I don’t play it, I just watch YouTube video essays in English, so at least I’m getting something study related from it xddd

Anyway, here is what I managed to read back to back and every chapter from them this year so far;

Considering that this list only recently started growing, pretty proud of myself regardless xdd

Went to a space called Pausify, it’s an event sponsored by the German government that takes place right next to the Berlin Central Station twice a week, because the ex-WaniKani friend invited me there ^^

The event was a silent book club, 30 minutes to chat with people, an hour of silent reading, and then a discussion panel. They also had those fun stickers you could get aaand I got distracted and didn’t end up getting any xddd

I read ささこい, finished the first volume and followed up with bits of フリーレン, that was what an hour bought me, and then the panel had this fun little cube you would put at “3 minutes” and everyone had 3 minutes to introduce their book before the time ran out:

I think the introduction of コミック百合姫 went pretty well for me, except for the fact that nobody else had the context on what I was reading and I needed to speak at 300 words per minute to get people through the basics in 3 minutes xddd

Other books were pretty mainstream and I don’t think anyone at the discussion table brought anything majorly challenging, but I’m still down for some 3 minute pandering of Why The Germans Do It Better xddd

Three minutes time is definitely not enough to get interesting discussions out of people, so I was a bittt disappointed by the conversations today, but then we went to the Hauptbahnhof for a lunch and that was the nicer part of the event ^^

I could see myself going there in the future, but out of the three book clubs I’m going to, this one was the weakest for today probably
AND YOU HAVE TO PAY €9.90 TO ACCESS IT (or €14.90 monthly)
BUT YOU GET A STICKER (unless you get distracted) AND SNACKS (unless you get distracted) xdddd

In front of the central station, there was a pan-African fair today, with all sorts of handmade and DIY (presumably) items that you could get, really colorful, I liked those C:

And also, Labubu craze had reached my favorite bubble tea place, Comebuy, aren’t they pretty xddd

German Shinjuku station be like:

Tomorrow, I’m setting off for a Works Council seminar in Bremen, I hope to get a nice walk around the town as well, though I probably should bring a rain coat at least, just in case xddd

So see you from Bremen tomorrow!

So I pulled another chart from my data based on this comment to get just my immersion activity by media type:

Short legend:

Blue = Watching (anime)
Green = Listening (podcasts and streams)
Red = Reading (Manga, Jr Novels, LNs, adult novels)
Purple = Mixed (games)

Darker colours are “harder” categories within their colour code.

Some thoughts:

  1. You’ll notice compared to my “full activity chart”, this year is busier than last. That’s because as I’ve finished up Wanikani, more of my Japanese learning time has gone to immersion rather than SRS.
  2. I do think there are diminishing returns on media, at a series level, genre level and medium level. Your first time with something might introduce a load of new material, your next few times will help to reinforce it and further times might be minimal extra reinforcement.
  3. This chart vs results might indicate that media is better than SRS on a simplistic reading but I think it’s more complicated than that - I don’t think I would have been able to make as rapid progress on the media side as I did without the foundations laid by SRS.

japanese language learning singularity is it real???

I started listening to 甘鶴 ちとせ because I realized that this might be the best way to at least experience 大逆転裁判2 at first, with those tiny little remarks from a person, plus reading all of the kanji after giving you a time to read them yourself, so it’s been really interesting so far and the fact I could follow everything was great, maybe I’ll eventually get to play that game in Japanese, who knows ^^

Pokemon is going slowly, I want to have at least something finished inJapanese, so since I’m already past the mid-point in there, that’s the best contender ^^

Works Council seminar!

I arrived in Bremen, making it the 16th out of 16 Bundeslands in Germany I’ve visited already ^^

The train was barely only 10 minutes late (xddd) and I love the train food, so the arrival was really nice C:

I had some time after the seminar to roam around the city and yeah, Bremen is legit, I didn’t expect for it to have this much to offer :eyes:

There are some parts of the city that look very old, and some that look really modern, it must have been fun to have lived there a couple hundred years ago :eyes:

I loved this Media Markt spiral in front of the shopping mall xddd

When I was having the seminar, my friend from a city in Niedersachsen named Vechta completely 100% spontaneously told me to come over, the train from Hbf only takes an hour to get there… and we got to spend an hour together ^^
LOOK THIS HORSEY SO CUTE

Got a hot chocolate and on the way to Bremen, did some Japanese C:

It’s so wild to me that I’ve gotten to this point where I have friends scattered in so many different places and I can just casually meet up with them, I sure wish to maintain as many of those friendships as I can ^^
inb4 I take a plane to meet up with Malinkal, get ready xdd
But yeah, I had one person from WaniKani offer to meet up sometime in the more distant future and I’d be interested in taking them for an offer ^^

Tomorrow, full day of the seminars and a tour of the Old Town, I wonder what the city is like ^^

So take care everyone and see you tomorrow ^^
