A Certain Bidoof's Multi-Language Travel & Friends & I'm A German Citizen Arc 🇯🇵 🇩🇪 🇨🇦 🇵🇱 🇨🇳

Congrats on becoming a German citizen!! :germany: :tada:

Will you have to change your name now, to nacktbidoof?
you probably know a better German translation of goły

So simple,
So poignant.
So uwu

Congratulations on getting the German citizenship

Hope you enjoy your new life now as a German citizen more than before

I have two questions (feel free to ignore them):

  • How long have you been in Germany (I totally forgot )?
  • How long did it take for them to grant you the citizenship? And did you have to let go of the polish one?

Here’s a celebratory Sakura for you :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom:

THANK YOU SHANNON C:

and in terms of the nails, i havent even thought of a flag of germany, but it’d look pretty funny if i did one hand be a flag of poland and one hand be a flag of germany? i’ll think of it, i’ll probably get my nails done next week ^^

THANK YOU DIO-BERRY C:

THANKS AKASHELIA <3

Polish is really wild in the regard that nobody ever learns Polish, so when a Polish person hears somebody using Polish in the wild they immediately go “POLSKA WSPOMNIANA, POLAND MENTIONED” and they revel in the fact they just met a kindred soul xddd

Relatable, but how wide has the mind gotten as a result of those xddd

THANKS TRUNKLAYER C:

I’ll probably japanese my Japanese and chinese my Chinese first xdddd

Thanks Mitrac! C:

The answer is… really quickly. Something like 5.5 months, which doesn’t happen often outside of Berlin, but they have a new digital system that allows for them to process the applications faster, so can’t complain about this ^^

Less than 5.5 years xdddd

Nope! I was allowed to keep it, and my Polish documents are still valid C:
I’m trying my best not to ignore questions, and I appreciate the fact you are asking so many questions of so many different people ^^

I absolutely agree, almost all of my friends at this point are foreigners or online people, I have a few German friends that live in Germany but almost exclusively interact with international people too xdd

THANK YOU YANDROS C:

THANKS ZAKARIUS <3

I think “Goly” kind of works because it also has the phonetics of it, I’d probably look for a different provoking word in German that would roll of the tongue in a similar way, but we can celebrate NacktBidoof for now xddd

THANK YOU ENIGMA AS WELL C:

July 17th, 2026

ahhh yes, your local priest casually enjoying mapo tofu sichuan dishes at an ultra spicy chinese restaurant xdd

one of the biggest strengths of F/SN is definitely the comedy timing, alternating something being very serious and then getting another portion of a spicy dish at just the right moment ^^

comedy timing C:

Chinese corner

…and so we did it.

We finished the textbook, then stayed a bit longer after classes to yap about travel through China and our plans for the future: there will not be an A2.1 course held in the same capacity as A1.2, there will be ones only on Fridays, but Fridays tend to be my having fun days, so I’ll probably park my Chinese arc a bit and do Hello Chinese and attempt to get back into Anki cards and just keep on reviewing things.

Today’s tempo was insane and dare I say, on the Korean ones we only did one chapter per lesson, today was another chapter and a half xddd

Also, I could get along with 马大为, we both like swimming and ice skating ^^

Personally, I’d say that my biggest achievement in terms of neurodivergence and split focus was the fact I didn’t skip a single out of the 20 classes (25 if you count Korean) and not even a single block of the classes, that’s unusually exciting for myself :eyes:

I don’t know what I’ll prioritze next, but it’s probably not going to be a new language, I need to restart some systems, let me have fun for a bit ^^

Life

So to follow up on the restaurants opening at Seestraße arc, the Chinese beef noodles restaurant has been opened yesterday ^^

They didn’t have any loud music or corporate sponsors, and apparently their meat is halal, so pretty cool ^^

For the opening two months, their prices of every bowl are fixed at €10, and they do have really cool things in the menu!

…unfortunately though, they do not allow for card payment, in the year of our lord, 2026. It’s the downsides of living in Berlin xddd

The noodles are great though, here are the beef flat ones to celebrate me finishing the Chinese course ^^

And another one from the series of the city preparing for pride…

And my family surprised me today by coming to my place to celebrate me having gotten the German citizenship! We’ll be spending the weekend together, we started off by watching Smile until 2:30 in the morning xddd

Either way, see you tomorrow!

July 18th, 2026

Weird words and Fate/Stay Night, find a more iconic pairing ^^

also, that’s a lot of しs :eyes:

Plenty of reading today because I just wanted to accelerate the reading speed a bit (and say to イリヤ, she’s still doing fine ^^)

The VN will only grow longer from now…

Life

Today, grabbed my family and took them to all of the most popular spots of the city, and my mom worked as a tour guide for them ^^

I took my DSLR and took a lot of portraits of them, slowly becoming a portrait artist too ^^

It’s really cool to be able to see the flags and be like “THAT’S ME THAT’S ME” now xddd

And we even got some pretty nice weather too ^^

Love walking around Die Welt balloon and getting all of the cool touristy things there xdd

And, people! Art around the city!

Today was also a day of Lesbisch-schwules Stadtfest and I took my mom to this one, a lot of exhibitors from around the whole Germany, including political parties, public transit, army, police, fire brigade, basically everyone had their own exhibits there ^^

We finally managed to find a Berlin version of a night market in Asia, and they’re getting rid of it tomorrow xddd

See you tomorrow either way ^^

That background. Oh no. Oh hell no. Poor you know who >_<

Congrats!!! Such a huge milestone, you’ve earned a celebration!!

that is so sweet :light_blue_heart:

ngl, it’s so weird to see 麻婆豆腐 in kana because I see it exclusively in kanji at restaurants and grocery stores. Is the waitstaff supposed to have an accent here or something and that’s why?

Yes, for accent and comedic timing, it was supposed to deter away from the seriousness of the rest of the scene xddd

But also, it’s a pretty common thing overall in F/SN that if you want to bring an attention to a specific matter being perceived differently by different characters, have one character say the word with kanji, and another character say the same word with katakana, that will show the difference in how the characters perceive that thing

thank you! did end up celebrating with my family C:

July 19th, 2026

woo, mini-marathon today, considering how tiring reading F/SN can get at times, and that the last two blocks from day 7 have been exactly that, this was a good chunk ^^

Crazy kanji usage though, never seen it before :eyes:

I wanted to read until Day 8 starts, because Day 7 is one of the shorter days in the game and I didn’t want to be stuck on it for very long, so here it is ^^

One of my favorite expressions in Day 7 was this one, 万全を期す, to absolutely ensure something is the case :eyes:

And, bit of a spoiler for a 22-year old game, but also banger expression…

Life

Went and saw The Odyssey in 70mm today!

Fun fact: there are zero IMAX 15/70 cinemas in the whole country of Germany that are showing this film, and something like eight 70mm cinemas in the whole country, two in Berlin :eyes:

We didn’t manage to get any good seats though so it kind of felt as if I were watching a 35mm film instead, but the film definitely does leave a great impression, the sound design has been INCREDIBLE

We’ve taken instax pictures and had some food together and my family set off ^^

My bike has been fixed, but I can only pick it up tomorrow, so today involved a lot of walking trying to get back home from Tiergarten, and look, there are actual Tiers in Tiergarten… and Englisches… and Rosen… :eyes: xddd

Oh yeah, and I got myself my very first henna tattoo, this turtle, it’s pretty smol, at first I thought I messed it up by cleaning my hand with a special wipe after 15 minutes, but by today, the turtle has already been pretty C:

And yep, world cup in the city, part of the reason why I read F/SN for so long today is that I can still hear the ambulances going both ways out of the window at my place xddd

Of course, my neighbors made it very easy for me to keep track of when the goal was being shot and congratulations to Spain, but I wonder what I can use my token “get out of a screaming situation at my place with friends at midnight” card I earned today for ^^

See you tomorrow! ^^

Since I’m so far behind on the forums I’m going to just assume that you somehow went to every one of the other World Cup games in person, scored four goals and probably sang the Cape Verdean national anthem because we know I’m not going to do it since I have a voice for print.

the next time an adventure like this takes place i’ll make sure to add a checkbox “and put hrudey in the middle of a stadium to force them to sing for 100m viewers” :folded_hands:

July 20th, 2026

Today I started experimenting around with mirroring video from my Switch through SysDVR to different devices configured in different ways, and I’ve kind of settled on two favorites ^^

First up, Android tablet with PopLingo, I have a feeling that this is what the MaruMori team forked in order to create the MaruDex tool to run on their Android devices :eyes:

Pros: it runs the full Yomitan including custom dictionaries, has touch-to-show-dictionary, pretty good latency ^^
Cons: When using touch-to-show-dictionary, the whole sentence is being parsed, not just the word you click on, and then you manually have to run around the slider in order to select just the word you’d like to translate

It does also support selecting an area of the screen, but it’s even more tedious to draw over an area of the screen xdd

And then, Macbook with Meikipop

Pros: very easy to use and works with hover, very pretty display, can make the text arbitrarily big and easily share screenshots
Cons: grammar tips don’t appear, only one dictionary is provided by default, adding more dictionaries takes a lot of effort; also, the keyboard is getting in the way

It’s also the tool that akatsukinoluna recommended in her study log :eyes:

But with the latency being so low, you can just play non-rhythm (xddd) games on your second screen with Joycons being out, while the console is facing opposite way, it works pretty well ^^

And also, had this word today in Rhythm Heaven!

And also, what a sentence in F/SN today:

喩えるなら、注射器で採血していたようなものだ。

In English:

To use an analogy, it was like drawing blood with a syringe.

I was missing three entire words in this sentence, damn xdd

Life

Got my bike back today! And hey, what’s that little banner over here…?

…times in the world have become really weird and Rheinmetall wants to create a ammunition factory in Wedding, pretty close away from my place, to use it to support defense/war efforts.

I’ve seen posters and banners for this, but seeing my bike repairperson have this banner made me realize how big the scale of the protests is :eyes:

But let’s talk about something dofferent…

I finally got a new set of nails!

You were right!!! Since I’m going to be reading Heaven’s Feel for the next while or so, I decided to make my nails F/SN Heaven’s Feel-themed xdddd

I hope they’ll motivate me to read the game a bit faster ^^

And yeah, summer is over everyone, I cycled with a coat out today xddd

See you tomorrow! ^^

Do you want to swap weather with me

It’s a great deal, look at all that free temperature, you surely won’t regret

Wow, that’s quite fast  Just Berlin being Berlin I guess  Glad you didn’t have to endure some of the horror stories one would hear

So they waited one month for each year you’ve been here  I guess that’s the new system

That’s also not quite long  I guess they changed the rules couple of years ago to forgoe of the condition of 8 years or so, which in this case worked to your advantage

You got the best out of two worlds  I’m really happy for you

I’m trying to do my best  So, here’s another question:

Do you feel any differences after getting the citizenship? and how do you think getting it will impact your life (whether currently or even your future life)?

Here’s another Sakura for you :cherry_blossom:

This made me laugh a lot  Thank you for making it

My eyes only see the Konoha symbol :leaf_fluttering_in_wind:

You can keep that weather for now :sob: I’m enjoying what we currently have so far (except the heat part). However, if you can somehow talk to the weather and convince it to become cool again around the beginning of September, that would be much appreciated :folded_hands: Here’s a Sakura for you :cherry_blossom: and another one (which can be used to persuade the weather) :cherry_blossom:

Why do we always have to swap and we can’t just split, both of the parties would be happy if we just split the temperatures in half :sob:

weather socialism when

well, as i said in the saturday one, walking around the city and thinking “THAT BELONGS TO ME NOW” is a very weird way of thinking, being involved in every single demographic statistic, be it population, age, what education level you have, feels pretty bizarre xddd

Unfortunately, yes I do think it will, I’ve been flirting with one idea for weeks I might or might not benchmark next week, so stay tuned :eyes:

July 21st, 2026

(important)

also me when im pretentious:

I stumbled upon this manga, ヴァンピアーズ, by accident, because I’ve been looking at things that would be tangential to horror and sapphic stories and this story hits both, it’s very sweet and a little kinky, but probably still not in a NSFW way, there’s adventures and fun characters and it felt pretty quick to read it ^^

But afterwards I switched over to Medalist and ehhh,

I wish I could be good at figure skating, I unironically spent two hours furiously googling if there’s any summer figure skating courses around, but unfortunately they seem to be all incompatible with my calendar and I’m seething over it, who would’ve thought I’d be angry over Gamescom xddd

And Layla was talking today about what is customary of summer in Japan, dancing to obon, wearing traditional outfits, and venting about her moving to Australia and the fact that she needs to come back to take care of her dad and make enough money to support him :sob:

Life

Today was so dark that light-sensitive sensors started putting on lights in the afternoon xdddd

But yeah, today I’ve cycled to a Tempelhof airport for the first time in a while, it’s a really cool part of Berlin history and culture that not that many people outside of Berlin know about, and it’s definitely worth checking out :eyes:

The plot twist behind this airport is that…
…it doesn’t exist. It stopped being operational 15 years ago.

And now there’s a crazy big patch of land in the center of Berlin where there’s just…

…nothing.

…and it’s amazing. It’s like having a big field in the city where a lot of people come to run, ride a bike, make a barbecue, meditate, listen to podcasts (definitely not me! C:) and maybe have an odd event happen once in a blue moon ^^

In Augusts, a circus festival is taking place there, and the whole field has random people practice their craft all the way through the field, but aside from that…

There’s a lot of political ideas on how to repurpose the area: either for a green living space, or affordable housing, or running some roads through it, but it feels really blessed to be here at this point in time where you have a 4km by 4km blob of just random monuments scattered around far from one another ^^

And people living in the neighborhood very much appreciate that possibility to just invite friends, practice your skateboard and sit down ^^

Also, just in front of the field, awww C:

Also, somebody’s got my levels of enthusiasm, I appreciate it so much C:

What a fun cycling trip today ^^

See you tomorrow!

Everything is now owned by you  That’s really awesome  and I’m glad you’re feeling that way

Oh boy, that will be fun indeed

Here are my guesses:

  • relocate to another country
  • visit a country you haven’t/weren’t able to visit before, but now as a German citizen it’s possible
  • learn yet another language
  • acquire yet another citizenship

Either way, this Sakura will bring you the needed luck for it to happen :cherry_blossom:

I’m a few days behind on foruming so I’m just seeing this. Congratulations on the German citizenship!! :tada: :germany:

as far as google says there are only two countries that have free visa access for german passport and not polish passport, so that would mean cuba or togo if google KI is right

So, there’s a chance, you say :eyes: That’s also interesting for sure, but I guess we’ll have to wait for now :eyes:

thank you! i appreciate all the greetings C:

that would be exciting, wouldn’t it :sob:

Nnnone of those xddd

But I can try to leak what’s going through my head because I have an internal conflict of values and even today at the queer book club I’ve been brainstorming this idea and people were just looking at me being like “huh” and I didn’t end up getting any insights xddd

So the tl;dr is that German citizenship gives you full rights to become elected as a politician in the local government, and although this isn’t something I would like to do in the short run, there was a story in the news recently about a part of Kantstraße that used to be a protected bike lane, being repurposed as a car road, and that’s because there is a conservative government in power and that government is on the way out right now.

In two months, Berlin will see its own local elections and so far, the election polling is hinting very strongly that in the first time in a while we’ll have a government led by a leftist party whose main focus will be affordability and mobility in the city, so a strong kneejerk response to the current anti-bike policies in the city

I live in Wedding, not that far away from an intersection that frustrates me, the Seestraße and Müllerstraße one. I’m not exactly there unless I want to use a tram and I don’t cross through it every day… and I don’t even want to, because the reason is that it’s a dreadful intersection that has traffic lighs that aren’t synchronized. That Seestraße thicker road is labeled as an important vein leading into a A100 Autobahn that everyone that I know absolutely hates, but car government, yay!

It takes 83 seconds to go through the whole cycle of lights to cross from one part of Müllerstraße to the other one.

Anyway, if you look at the middle of this double-lane road, there is a tram that’s a fairly new thing, as not that many trams have been built since 1991 in West-Berlin, but they’re slowly increasing. From Seestraße you can take a rare tram for Wedding that can take you either north, to the northern side of the city center, or south, to terminate at, eee…

700 meters or something?
See the problem?

The two parties that will likely form the backbone of the post-election government, Die Linke and Die Grünen, already are drafting very aggressive mobility agreements that also involve fighting for trams to be extended throughout the city, including that one specifically. As I’ve been mentioning in my posts above, there are zero plans for any new extensions of public transit lines until 2030s, which in my opinion is a bit WILD to hear about, but it doesn’t have to be that way and the incoming governance is aware of this and has some 2030 plans for public transit.

And since I’ve been a Betriebsrat member and I know how governance works like, I was thinking if I shoud try my best at joining a political party working group as a member and volunteer some of my strength as a regular city explorer and experience with drafting documents to help them out advance that mission? I’m writing this as an accountability thing right now, but there is a picnic with members of CDU and Die Grünen tomorrow that I might attend to hear about what they think about the future of mobility, and simply find out where are the conversations in right now

Is this a good use of my time? Is this something people are interested in? I don’t know, nobody seems to be able to tell me that much, but that’s because most of my friends have given up on governance and working within the systems to change it xddd

If anyone had any input, I’d really appreciate that!

July 22nd, 2026

So I did hit a bad ending today, first one by an accident xddd

I went back and I played until I wouldn’t have the bad ending anymore, but I’m genuinely so upset about the circumstances leading to this bad ending, this one is called “love isn’t enough” and it was really badass to arrive back at the mansion and see the bad ending events be so abrupt and unexpected, but it’s like cmon, I shouldn’t be your own caretaker, the savior complex that Shirou is trying to get everyone into is getting on my nerves xddd

also, still reading Vampeerz and this panel was amazing xddd

also,

xddd

And new words on WaniKani today!

Language learning rant

Also, another thought I bounced from the book club and Discord today, and the thought started because I vented about the standardized testing scores decreasing with next generations, starting with a generation before me, and my side of the vent was that we shouldn’t care about standardized testing because the world around us is turning us into generalists and it’s great that people have so many skills mixed together and everyone has so many hobbies and interests and awwww C:

But the downside of being less specialized than at any point in the past is that the expertise is a bit harder to achieve, and less people do it, me included

I’ve noticed it’s really difficult to get myself excited for N2 Japanese study and I’ve been complaining about this before too, and the thing that might have been working for me across all sorts of different domains is to simply develop a hyperfixation for something?

At the same time, developing hyperfixation for Japanese has been a little hard to achieve for me lately, so the Vampeerz is a bit of an attempt for me to try to get into something so weird that I simply can’t look away and I’m like “AND THEN WHAT? AND THEN WHAT?”, and it’s been a biiit successful, but also not as successful as I’d like

Japanese really struggles from being my language number 4, one that I don’t experience in a day to day life and I don’t really feel like represents my current predicaments I’m in? So I’m still actively pushing myself to learn Japanese every day, even though it just feels natural that I do it every day at this point

But I really, really wish I could find something about Japanese that would make me go “LETS FREAKIN GOOOO” for a week, not for one evening, I wonder what’s that thing out there xddd

Same with this, if anyone has any input, please do let me know! C:

Life

Ahh, true art, finally something that speaks to me directly xddd

And man, that’s a crazy discount on a camera, they definitely are clearing their warehouses xddd

But yeah, book club, our introduction round was 3 hours today and I forgot to even bring up the governance story in mine xdd

Today a big topic has been about Berlin’s organization for the parade this weekend, and how the parades have been split between the south and north Berlin, and how the Dyke March is happening on Friday for some reason, and it’s a bit of an interesting choice for them

Either way, my Instax is fully loaded with the rainbow film, so this weekend is set to be fun ^^

See you tomorrow!

Both my younger brother and I are involved in our town government a bit (he is on our parks and recreation committee, I am on our library board) and we’ve both found it valuable. From (lurking) reading your posts it seems like city mobility / accessibility is important to you, so I would say go for it! I am not a complete “working within the system” believer but for some things it can be effective still (despite it all). Starting locally is good, too. Maybe see if there are some shorter-term volunteer opportunities so you could try it out first…?
