I started looking over the browser implementation of F/SN to find out if this is something I should focus over the reading marathon next week, and I feel like… yeah… it could be doable?
Especially since it’s in the browser, so you have instant lookups with Yomitan if you go like “おさなしい? おさない?”
It kind of feels like I’m reading the pages much smoother than I thought it’d go, but of course, since it’s a difficult marathon text, I imagine there might be many moments over the course of reading it when I go like “that one is tough” and they will wear me away over time ![]()
I wonder what my goal for the marathon should be, I’m almost certainly not reading 12h+ this time around, and the amount of Japanese I consume a day decreased significantly compared to spring, so let’s restart the Japanese machine and find out if I still like the language ^^
Chinese corner
I finished the A1.1 classes! C:
Our classes, especially today, became very rambly, and we were making a ton of breaks tomorrow - we ended up at lesson three of New Practical Chinese Reader, but I did some self-study afterwards, with reviewing tones with HelloChinese and some with Chinesia. Chinesia appears to be a 100% vibe-coded app, including AI-generated illustrations and very poor speech detection and I’m a bit salty about this, but the speed at which one can acquire new sentences is pretty cool, so I haven’t uninstalled it yet.
Over the course of the class today as the rest of the group was rambling about, me and the second-generation Turkish guy were looking for Anki decks, and we found two - the HSK 1 one and the New Practical Chinese Reader 1
Funnily enough, the lowest certifiable language of Chinese proficiency, HSK 1… consists of only 150 words. Not 150 characters, 150 words, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I know those 150 words already after those two weeks alone…?
Of course, tones, listening, and so on, but with the decks I’ve downloaded…
…if I end up doing the usual 20 words a day on Anki, I might finish the whole HSK 1 deck before the WaniKani marathon next week? Should I try it? I kind of want to try it…?
And I did sign up for A1.2 with the same group and the same teacher! Though, the follow-up course only starts in 3 weeks, I wonder how much Chinese study will I feel like doing until then ^^
I was looking at the Chinese textbooks in Dussmann today and there’s a lot of them, including German-to-Chinese, which would probably interest me the most ^^
Part of the problem though is that most of my language study regardless of the language comes from boop booping on the phone and computer, so I don’t know if I should attempt to commit to any if I know I have tools on my devices instead ![]()
And to celebrate finishing A1.1, I went over to grab a food I learned about today in the classes for the first time! Jian Bing! 煎饼!
And interestingly enough, I met my friend I haven’t seen in a while in there, we chatted in a bit and he gave me a friend discount, then he took a break and we went off to yapping, so that’s the life section already xddd
But yeah, I FINISHED A1.1 IN CHINESE! Wonder where do I go from here now ^^
Life
So actually it’s a new food court that opened up at the Potsdamer Platz, they also decorated it for the World Cup games, and now that I’ve learned that there’s a Japanese and a Nepali and a few more restaurants in there, I’ll probably become a regular there for a bit ^^
Also, when I was looking for Chinese textbooks, I found this interesting book xddd
CANADA MENTIONED :DDDD
…some expressions are definitely more unexpected than the others xddd
And man, I can only imagine how impossibly long the line for them is going to be on Sunday, I’m glad my friend doesn’t work there xdddd
I went and saw Disclosure Day today and it’s my type of camp movie - it’s very cheesy, but they had me from the moment the main character started speaking Russian and then Korean out of nowhere, we stan hyperglots ^^
It’s got aliens, it’s got conspiracy theories, it’s got FBI chase scenes, it’s got really cheesy CGI, though the film grain looks like the film was shot on 35mm, so it wins with visuals in that area ^^
Also, is it me, or does Emily Blunt always look like
in every single movie that she stars in? xddd
Very 80s/2000s movie with 2026 tech, we love those ^^
See you tomorrow!
