Yeah, rushing reviews at 2 and 3 in the morning isn’t one of my top hobbies definitely xdd

53 minutes today, without any breaks, without alt-tabbing, just write, write, write and as I said, when I have days like today, my reviews are not sustainable and I only finished at 3:30.

SRS tripped once again and I don’t know what to make of all of those wonky intervals xdd

i suppose sleep until 2:30 has been cancelled for the next while or so xd

I can afford it because I don’t work this week, but what if I were traveling or on holidays or something xdd

Also, WaniKani had another content update today and it added another kanji from another level, niece:

I undetstand why they added it… because the reading is めい and it doesn’t fit any of the kanji with the 至 or the 女 radical xdd

Ehh, WaniKani funny moments :upside_down_face:

Life

Ahhh, living in an altbau ^^

But no, I didn’t have enough groceries so I needed to go out and this is what I saw xdddd

Very resourceful from the Rewe team ^^

I went out of my place at 5pm, when the temperature was still 37, and every few minutes I would see another ambulance dispatched to help people:

I’ve NEVER experienced a temperature as high as today, with another record being like… 34? 35?

I went outside and it felt, doable, like i could go for a while like that.
And then I wanted to park my bike and realized i forgot my muscle memory for how to get my bike by the locking rack.

And i kept pulling on my bike and the pedal would be stuck and i just kept pulling and pulling until slapping my cheeks and realizing that there is a pedal halfway through the bike :sob:

Mental capacity completely ruined :sob:

But yeah, made it to the queer book club and the woman that organized breakfast brought us a few hand-cooked pasties with 納豆, which was really sweet of her C:

And one of the queer guys who’s in there brought a zine that he contributed to, and damn, I wish I could publish for a zine. I got the contact details of the person who was making the submission review and if I ever have enough time, I could try my best at writing something to them ^^

We just yapped and yapped and yapped and suddenly it was 2am and time to go back homes xddd
They are really fun to be around ^^

But yeah, it’s 3:50am, so I’m just jumping to my bed and as soon as I wake up, all of the heat will have dissipated from the world, see you tomorrow ^^

幸せの木 is queer! how cool is that C:

Also, remember me complaining about the word tutu? Now it follows me around :sob: xdd

that’s for 慎める, as in being discreet ^^

On Bunpro I’m still having troubles identifying words that have “尚” as a grammar inside of it

My accuracy overall is getting a bit better, but I’m struggling with differentiating stuff like それで, それに, それでも, etc., I’m not failing myself yet if I’m like “this is sore but might have ni or de at the end”, but I probably should at one point in time

I can 100% see me going for another round of N3 and N2 on Bunpro from scratch sometime in the future, because there’s a couple of words in Seasoned 2 or 3 that are like “of the; among” and I’m like "の中で” and then it’s “ok but more formal” and i’m like “???” just to find out it’s "のうちで” and I’m like “yeah of course it’s のうちで, what else could it be”, but not on the first try xdd

Also, it’s frustrating how I’m so familiar with いつの間にか but it just never stumbles to my head when I have the “without realizing it” sentences, like:

xdddd

Anyway, Bunpro still will take me a little to be comfortable with.

German & Oversharing

Yep, that was today.

Wasn’t very willingly so, but

here's a reminder nobody's perfect, and

those kind of bail outs used to be pretty common for me xdd
I kind of use this study log to actively force myself to do things even if I’m feeling like naaah, not today, but I keep mentioning spoon theory over the course of my study log:

my body actively felt like I’ve used all of the spoons for this, eee, week, month?
When there’s days like today, it just feels like a very strong bodily reaction where your body feels like a sludge of “NO NOT TODAY” leaking over your mind and paralyzing your mental functions until you make a commitment to yourself of agreeing not to come. it feels distinctly different from a cycle, where you can just look at what potential benefits coming would have and you’re like “okay, i can try to do something, but less today”, and of course it’s only about a specific thing, all of the other things are fair play :sob:

i feel like i’ve had it even when i was in primary school, and i tried talking about it with a coach, but, ehhh xdd

It feels like I’m hurting myself just trying to ask myself the questions of “okay what would it take in order to make myself come today” when the spoons are used up, so my body took over and won today. I might be trying to be kind to myself, but I just find it so frustrating and so amusing, that:

  • working 8 hours, yep, great, you can do it!
  • socializing with people for 8 hours, yep, sounds great!
  • cycling 8 hours, no problem, go for it girl!
  • playing a video game for 8 hours, we can do it!
  • going for a german course for 3.5 hours. no. we are not doing this.
  • manga in japanese for 20 minutes? nuh-uh, no dice.

Of course, as soon as I allowed myself not to come today, I immediately started meditating over it and journaled on the topic of why it feels like language courses require so many spoons of me, and of course there’s shame, being afraid of not understanding things, being afraid of not being able to speak up your mind properly, which are all the things that I am set to hit a wall against as I keep studying Japanese, woo C:

Also, this is probably very strongly connected to why I feel like “NO” when it comes to extending my Japanese study block with native content consumption, it’s not a “hmm i’m not feeling like it”, it’s a “I WILL LITERALLY NOT LET YOU USE YOUR BRAIN UNTIL YOU FORSAKE YOUR DECISION TO INDULGE IN IT TODAY” :sob: xddd

And then after that jumped on a bike and cycled 15 kilometers anyway and

I DONT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FATIGUE
neurodivergence ringing bells ^^

Also, relevant, because in my journaling I remembered those two posts, because i didn’t pay too much attention to those remarks at first, but they became very relevant:

I imagine if there was something aside from languages i would like to improve over the course of this study log, it’s… hm… consistency? or not beating yourself up if you don’t do consistency? i feel like i have to choose one of those because if i have consistency, then self-compassion might come across as something that would hold me back from being consistent, and if i have self-compassion, i might not be focusing on improving consistency much. being an adult funny moments.

for now, trying not to beat myself up for being flaky xddd

Life

The fallout of yesterday’s heatwave xdd

I’m so proud of us as the local Kiez for having completely wiped out the watermelon section yesterday xddd

But no, the temperature dropped to 24 degrees today and it was PERFECT, PERFECT im telling you xdd

I kept the windows wide open the whole day and I did the super extended session of lüften xdd

Went around the town today in the search of new useless spells, and here’s the Ukraine fish with legs spell, also summerween spell:

and here’s the I GET THE IDEA spell I found around the metro:

xdddd

Also, I finished Hundred Line Last Defense Academy’s most fleshed out ending and I can finally read @RebBlue’s spoiler notes xdd

Impressions so far: really, really happy with the game, one of my favorite Kodaka stories and one of my favorite Uchikoshi stories, though I wish there was a way to make some battles autoplay and fast-forward xddd

It took me 38 hours to get here, I read really quickly in English, so it’s funny to compare it to Howlongtobeat here :sob: xddd

Ending 001

I REALLY, REALLY ENJOYED HOW ENDING 001 ENDED. It was really ballsy to finish the game with that message, and though there was a moment of disconnect for me when the kids decided to fight for humanity regardless, I thought that everything after that was pure kino and I think the final message was really aptly, really well pulled off and I like how it iterated on the idea of Danganronpa V3, but in a much, much more rewarding way.

I loved the PoV shift to Nozomi at the end of the campaign and I think the place where the story ended could’ve just been a perfect place to finish the game, but I got greedy and I got to reading further because I was like “wow, I hope the rest of the endings are just as good” xdd

Ending 002

…so this is where the issues started xddd
I immediately realized that there was a ton of content cut for this ending compared to 001 and I was like “huh”? xdd

I liked the place where the story ended though, even though frick Sirei, but it was relatively amusing ^^

Ending 003

…and this started getting me really, really worried about the ending quality, because though the original idea was really cool and I understood why people really like Eito and the message felt really mature and nostalgic, I felt like that ending was really underbaked and way too short, like huh???

Endings 004-006

…so this was the first post-001 ending I wanted to hit, because that was the only decision of Takumi I didn’t agree with, and the way how this ending started was really cool and I much, MUCH more prefer the day 93 and day 99 fights with this setup in mind: having a rebellion leader instead of just poison traps, and it was fun to see humanity revolt against the last defense academy;

…what was the final decision at the end of this route. Both endings 005 and 006 have been comically bad, and if there’s any one I align with more, I think it’s the rebellion leader surviving, though Nozomi being at school was pretty wholesome too. BUT LIKE??? THIS ENDING WAS SO UNDERBAKED

…and then I did 004. Oh no.

I decided to switch back to the very first decision and do the very opposite decision to what I made at first, and now I’ll probably spend a long, long time until I hit another ending xdd

I COULD’VE BEEN FREE OF THIS GAME ALREADY BUT NOOO I HAVE TO KEEP READING

see you tomorrow either way ^^

I mean languages taking more spoons is very reasonable, all that brain rewiring which I’m hoping and praying is happening in the background
Amount of spoons being used obviously depends on the type of study, I’ve decreased my spoons/hour ratio for most types, speaking practice though… 1 hour with coworkers yesterday had me exhausted

It’s weird, initially native consumption takes more spoons than study, then it switched and now study takes a lot more spoons. More than 2.5 hours of proper study in a day got me feeling like

but 3 hours of anime and 1 hour of podcasts and 3 hours of reading in Japanese, that’s just Saturday

Yet another emergence of the eternal struggle between self-compassion and self-discipline. I personally don’t like absolute streaks like “I must do this everyday”, because e.g. even if there’s been a couple days I haven’t read novels in Japanese this year, it was because my brain was literally mush, and pushing myself through wouldn’t have done anything except maintain a silly streak I don’t care about. I try for the reasonable approach of just being able to figure out when you really are not in a position to do something, and being kind to yourself in that specific situation, and stricter with yourself every time outside of that.

On the subject of consistency, my exercise routine has fallen off a cliff this year due to things screwing up my consistent habits I spent years building. So maybe it’s time to be strict with myself for a little bit with that, for enough time for the automatic-ness to take over. That’s one of the situations where I don’t have a good reason (anymore) not to be doing it, so strictness is kindness. Psyching myself up to start tracking it in my study log to pressure myself into doing it…

At least you’re consistently trying to be consistent!

LOLOLOL

Re. Consistency: I’ve never managed to maintain a streak doing “something that I ought to be doing nearly every day” for more than 3 weeks LOL
I constantly struggle to do “something that I want to be doing nearly every day” (self-care: showing, brushing teeth, drinking enough water, exercising) then the next tier (keeping my plants alive, keeping house and garden respectable tidy, studying my Japanese) etc…

I noticed that today my body wasn’t screaming “NO” so I decided to give myself a bit of a challenge and managed to do a ton of things in languages today.

I don’t have many comments to leave though, partly because it’s 3:30, so Frieren cool, we stan ^^

German

Was trying to make up at least something for yesterday not having classes and I bought the new issue of Manga Issho!

Read something like 150 pages of it

Still, banger price, banger comics, really happy with the project and I’ll keep supporting them ^^

Favorite comic and favorite panel at the same time ^^

Watched the new Wes Anderson movie, really fun, and also listened to the Chris Broad’s audiobook on the way back, whY ISNT CHRIS BROAD NARRATING IN GERMAN GRRR xdddd

I have my family at my place, so it’s a bit more chaotic today, but got new nails today! C:

Takumi Sumino ^^

I need to grow an ahoge now xddd

Also, before my family came, there is a thing in Germany where people collect cans because they come with a deposit, and for each can you get €0.25 back, so it seems I had 80 empty cans at my place xddd

Ahh, so much free monies, except that I needed to pay them at first, but I got a ton of money back xddd

Anyway, I’ll be back tomorrow and hopefully earlier and hopefully I’ll write more ^^

See you tomorrow!

Nice nails The lavender is a bold mix

How the. Heck. Do you get so. Much done?!
Yay, you!
PS, I’m supposed to be asleep.
Hey! You’re also supposed to be asleep!!

At the tourist places, I understand why several people were rooting through the trash for those refundable cans/bottles! It adds up pretty fast!

LEVEL 41 :DDDD

final non-fast level except for one in the mid-40s, pace is about to speed up, fasten seatbelts because we’re going EdUcAtIoN now :DDD

I mean, I hope that’s the case xdd

In Pokemon Scarlet, the word 項目

did appear a couple of times, so that will boost the recognizability of this word

Also, it’s just so weird to have the word 主 in katakana, the proper definition on Kanji Study is just the third one for this and fourth one on Jisho, so it just throws you out xddd

Aside from that, pretty good speed of reading today, I found a couple of useful expressions quickly, like まひ for paralysis and やけど for burn, it’s just that the game is REEEALLY BORING, but Pokemon fans could stone me for this xdd

As for Bunpro, retention is getting to an almost nil for new items, I cheated something like half of the words today and I don’t really see a path for myself to catch up on the grammars, but I most likely will have to just sit down and write a couple of sentences with those grammars :sob:

im SO close away from being free though :sob:

Life

Family in Berlin C:

I got us tickets to the TV tower and we rode the elevator up up up at 6m/s, really fun view up above ^^

Here at the bottom, right next to the construction site, was where the line of people for the midnight launch of Switch 2 was queuing up ^^

Also, this pretty TV tower Berlin bear, her makeup is on point ^^

We also saw barrel organ players (DREHORGEL, amazing german invention xdd) in what seemed to be a festival of the instrument
One of the players, the one in the second picture, came from Odessa in Ukraine :eyes:

Also, I never knew our local Haribo World had a section of different Haribo varieties from all along the world :eyes:

Well, treated my mom to licorice today, how come she dOESNT LIKE IT CMON :sob:

And at Potsdamer Platz today there was something similar to a police fair?
Tons of freebies, including cute ones, and a lot of displays from the series of “THIS IS HOW A DESTROYED TRUCK LOOKED LIKE, BETTER HOPE THAT’S NOT YOU IN THE FUTURE” xddd

And at the end of the day, I booked flights for my sabbatical from work in September I’ve been teasing about for a bit aaand I’m taking my mom with myself there :eyes:

As one of the steps in the way, I’ll get to travel to Tokyo again! But not for very long, so I’ll have to make my time count and make sure that I plan my time in there really well

Well, in fact, I have to make sure that we plan the whole September really well, but that’s on the side xdd

I’ve been preparing for this trip for a while in terms of finances, but I needed to look pretty deep into my checking account to make it work, so after tomorrow, the rest of the updates in July might or might not be a little bit more introverted and boring, money supply broke ^^

But I can’t be suuuuper frugal immediately yet, because I’m meeting up with a friend at an anime convention in Potsdam tomorrow, that’s the reason for tomorrow xddd

So see you tomorrow, should be fun too ^^

Ooh you slipped that sabbatical in there very casually. Sounds like s lot of fun :eyes:

I’m with your mom :joy: but I can lend you my SO if you want to treat someone

yeah i love me some german seems like xdd
on one hand i’m really happy I know German to the point that I already do, on the other:

  • i’m still sooooo far away from feeling comfortable speaking it, and even more so about doing it grammatically correct
  • it’s not japanese xddd

ehhhh :sob:

Anyway, Japanese ^^
Love your Princess Ze*das in there xddd

Also, 幸せの木 seems to love repetitive grammars, I saw it before as well, but seeing the amount of すると felt really noticeable in the story today :eyes:

my daily SRS timings are almost completely fixed, I might break them next Wednesday again, but let me relish in the fact I’m back on track once again xddd

Life

Potsdam, the only city in a remote vicinity of Berlin, we don’t have it as nice as NRW or Hessen does ^^

I went in with my usual Haruhi cosplay and on my way there, a Japanese woman stopped me and was like “OOO ITS SO COOL YOU HAVE THE HARUHI COSPLAY” and I told her about the convention in Japanese, and also that I’ve had this outfit for a while, so it’s fun to meet Japanese people casually this way ^^

The anime convention in there, the Anime Messe Babelsberg is widely appropriated by Berliners as the Berlin convention and is set inside of… eee… an actual film studio/museum, and a lot of things were themed after both anime and film, sometimes in the same places ^^

There’s the usual, artists alleys, importers of figurines, you’ve seen that in the previous posts already ^^

But this time, me and my bouldering friend (and a couple people that tagged along with us ^^) decided to prioritize experiences over just buying things (I’m broke xddd), so we followed the fun parts of experiences ^^

First up, I had some dango mochi from a Japanese foodtruck, made the order in Japanese, thanked then, mochi good ^^

Then I made a prayer for my friend’s prosperity and my financial situation (xdddd) and tested my luck and I’m having a… 中吉 for 中級言語能力, we take those ^^

We went through the filmparky set areas as well, they looked so cool and so unexpected :eyes:

We went for Nano’s concert together, I didn’t know much about her leading into the concert, but she’s really good and it really did feel like a proper jpop/jrock/anison concert, even though Nano said she doesn’t feel like an anison singer ^^

She sang the Btoom opening, No pain, no game, that’s how I knew her ^^

Then went to the gaming section and they had the obvious ones in there, plus a Mario Kart World tournament in the background where only two players seemed as if they knew the game in the first place, I should’ve participated xddd

And then, at the same stage, a RPG music pianist, Rina Tober, had a mini-concert where she went through all the Kingdom Heartses, Final Fantasies, Baldur’s Gates, Skyrims, Niers, Clair Obscures, Xenoblade Chronicleses, it’s really fun to be able to recognize all the tracks that were being played, so go follow her on social media, she was great ^^

And at the end, we went to watch Kimi no Iro, Naoko Yamada’s new film, and sigh, I made a post about her movies before, she just gets it, you know :sob:

A movie about the girls christian schools that absolutely a-are not queer lesbian incubators, the music was great, the warmth of the movie was amazing, Naoko Yamada landed another bullseye with this movie ^^

Liz and the Blue Bird still remains my favorite one, but she did transport me out there, so thank you for making me feel so warm C:

And yep, I ended up doing a ton today, I was really happy about my experience today, so even though I didn’t bring any souvenirs except for my middling luck and a convention program, it was really fun ^^

Next big event: probably Gamescom in August, so stay tuned to that one ^^

Also, on the topic of WaniKani having a music club now xdddd

Well, it was just a prop, so I couldn’t even play the first four notes, DDAG, for Megalovania, but it was fun either way xddd

Anyway, tomorrow, final day without work and my final Japanese classes at the B2.5 level!

See you tomorrow! C:

Will be put to rest tomorrow xddd

I had a weird case today of just not hating learning Japanese, at least in the first part of the day xddd
Then when it got to the 1h15m review block of course I was like , but we’re so close away, SO close I can almost taste it

In 3 days (I’ll do 4 lessons one day) I’ll just retire the “learn” functionality on Bunpro and pretend it doesn’t exist for the forseeable future ^^

N2 retention is still bad, with some exceptions like やがて、結果、それとも, and a few other obvious ones, but I’m trying my best not to allow myself to cheat the items if they’re ghosts already and only get them out of the ghost if I can actually recall them ^^

Best radical btw

Also, when looking at somebody else’s Study Log, I found out that Review Summary page extension exists and I was SO HAPPY to have found it ^^

And when I saw the passage of imaginary friend missing playing with 勝 when 勝 went to America and started being obsessed with career and didn’t want to go back to make-believe:

I thought of @prath’s post in the study log, i hope that things will start looking up for you before too long :sob:

Also, neurodivergent tangent for today, there is a new word up higher level that’s 躍る and I was like “OH SHOOT, I FINALLY GOT THE JOKE IN LOVE LIVE SUNSHINE MY 舞 TONIGHT, IT’S BOTH DANCE AND JUMP AT THE SAME TIME”, just to look at the lyrics and go like…

…no, but they still jump in the dance sequence, don’t they…? I’s “おどれ, to dance, おどれ, to jump”, right???

…they don’t xddddddd

so i’m sorry, it’s only 踊る, not 踊れ躍れ

Had a similar situation at Japanese classes today when we were talking about 発掘 and I mentioned the second kanji as 「堀」の 「掘る」 and my teacher apologized to me fOR SOME REASON and was like “look at the radical on the left… i’m sorry…” and I was like “OH NO” xdddd

So today, Japanese classes ended, and we’ve had two final presentations, one about a certain Russian soup called okroshka:

and the second one about a scientist, 鈴木章, who won the nobel prize for chemistry ^^

After that, we read an article about tanabata, 七夕 (棚機), しちせき (七夕) (xdddddd) and talked about wishes everyone would have, and I told my teacher how scared I’m of wishing, but yeah, was sweet and I was able to show the midding luck I got at the convention yesterday as well xddddd

HOPE YOU LOOKED UP TO THE SKY TODAY, IF NOT, THERE’S STILL CHANCE (it’s cloudy here in Berlin) xdd

We also discussed a related legend of 織姫と彦星:

that I only knew before because of 君の知らない物語 xddd

The student who did the presentation on Akira Suzuki also brought us a huge selection of chocolates to the class today, including one that was supposed to be 100% made of cocoa, it was so dry it felt like it was sucking liquid from your throat :face_with_peeking_eye:

But yeah, that’s a wrap for our B2.5 study block, we’re back to B2.6 in September and I’ll miss the first three classes, should be back by the fourth one… just need to find money to cover it first xdddddddd

I also watched one episode of 薫る花は凛と咲く and it touches on some tropes I really don’t like, but people say it’s crazy good, so I might or might not keep watching ^^

And I tried the mock N2 exam to find out if there’s remotely, legitimately any chance of me doing JLPT N2 in December because I can’t see myself being ready for it in Decemb…I scored 14/21 on the language tasks and 4/5 on the listening tasks I’ve tested for myself.

As soon as I saw the results I was like “まさか” because it means that I’m actively holding myself from attempting to get another certificate, which, EEEEEEE

Of course, the mock tests are made to be a bit easier, so I shouldn’t be all that excited…
…but the window for signups for Düsseldorf opens on July 14th…

どうしようかしら。。。。。。。。

Well, people that are better at thinking than me, let me know xdd

Also, 気になってる人 banger manga love the characters and expressions in there and 姪っ子 is finally as a kanji on WaniKani xdddd

Life

Still no idea what to grind on the guitar, so I just played the obvious scales and a few chords back to back, did the singing warmup, but just in case, I have an idea what I could do with guitar, it might take me a week to set the plan in motion though ^^

After Japanese classes, cycled to Potsdamer Platz where there is a monument for peace and right in front of it I saw somebody having written a Fibonacci sequence for some reason xdddd

And on the way back, found this sticker:

did you know that the Jesus Christ the King of the Universe statue in Świebodzin, Poland is the tallest Jesus statue in the whole world, beating even the Rio one? xddd

Anyway, Hundred Line!

Ending 73

Slasher: Kurara’s Last Stand
Off to a pretty good start, I was really let down by endings 4-6 in the previous tree so I wasn’t expecting much from this one, but I liked the small touch there of trying to aim for Clover ending in VLR, you go girl, proud of you xddd

Ending 74

Slasher: Flight Of The Living Dead
AHHH THIS IS ONE OF THE ENDINGS THAT I WISH IT JUST CONTINUED FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES AFTER THE END, but amazing comedic timing with the final ending in there xddd

Ending 75

Slasher: Kyoshika’s Last Wish
I was a bit disappointed by how generic it ended, the day 99 fight was super cool even though I couldn’t skip it, but that wasn’t among my favorite endings xdd

Ending 76

Slasher: History Repeating
The very final sequence in this one was very amusing and I’m not gonna hide, the whole parasite storyline comes from absolutely nowhere, but if you pretend it’s like bombs in VLR and that the parasite was there all along, you can unironically vibe to it, but aside from that, Slasher was a fun path to pursue xddd

I’ll do the 69-72 endings as the next thing, the Danganronpa ending, maybe the antagonist ending and then try to do the S.F. ending, and then it’ll be the end of my adventure with this game: it’s too much pain to read repeating text over and over again, even if it’s really good quality xddd
Good game ^^

Gooood scores!
It’s only 90/180 for a pass remember! I tthink you can definitely make the step up if you want to.
Buuuuuuut… remember the main thing which kills everyone in N2 is reading (not sure if you did reading questions in the language tasks or not ofc). I’ve seen so many people talking everywhere on the internet about how ridiculously hard the N2 reading for this last test was (it was hard, but… I do wonder if people would still think that if they went and read 10 novels/LNs first). So if you want to pass well (and not want to die in the reading test), then… you know what to do

I think over the course of the last few months my reading velocity has improved significantly, to the point where i can sometimes even read faster than the speaking speed, but that means nothing because the reading recognition is not there and it’s like :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

and i can read it over and over and over again and i get more each time, but no time do i get it, as in the actual contents of the text

I’m also having the same thing in German, where I read a text and I get its vibes but then ask me any question about the contents of the text and I’m like :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face: :slightly_smiling_face:

i really have to step it up with the light novels/visual novels don’t i :upside_down_face:

well the main question is am i going to be able to do it before december, and i don’t know what the answer to this one is

HOW ARE PEOPLE WITHOUT SCRIPTS SUPPOSED TO FINISH WANIKANI xdddd

also, this word is really funny, it never makes me smile, 同窓会!

…but there is another similar one that always leaves me with dread, how am I supposed to remember this one, 虚栄心 xddd

The amount of ghosts on Bunpro don’t really go down yet, still two days to go:

I wanted to do a mock test for JLPT so I accidentally started my trial on MaruMori because it advertized itself as having them, but the tests are only available for the paying people, without the trial, and I’m going to have a packed calendar for a while, so no MaruMori study for me and I will burn the trial, ehhh :sob: xddd

German

So today’s lesson was pretty funny, we talked about handicraft and a topic called Wanderjahre
(auf der Walz), where skilled craftspeople under the age of 30, after finishing their initial group of Ausbildung courses, go out of the place they live, no money, no phone, to a random place where a town mayor finds a guild for them to live off of their study of the craft

They wear really funny outfits (I’m sorry xddd) and this tradition is still alive in Germany and Austria apparently :eyes:

Each year, something like 500 people forfeit their lives to go on an adventure like this, the process takes three years and you can’t go back home over that time and you’d better learn a lot over the course of it xdd

I can’t come up to terms whether it sounds more like an adventure or more like a cult xddd

But the practice of journeyman years apparently used to be very influential in the past and is still recognized even outside of Germany, where after the first year you’re allowed to continue your journey outside of Germany, so, huh  xddd

Either way, it’s really interesting, so read more about it here ^^

After that, we talked about Grundgesetz (German constitution equivalent) and we’ve had a fun discussion, and a bit of a hot take from my side, I’m not a fan of the first amendment to the constitution of the US, and a few people in the group agreed with that too xdd
how come nobody for centuries thought that giving eugenicists and scientists an even playing field could ever go wrong xddd

Luckily, Germany has an anti-freedom shield, there is a specific section in Grundgesetz, Artikel 3, Absatz 3, that reads

(英語で: No person shall be favoured or disfavoured because of sex, parentage, race, language, homeland and origin, faith or religious or political opinions. No person shall be disfavoured because of disability.)

and I have a feeling that the act of limiting freedom is probably our group’s and my favorite rule in the whole Grundgesetz, expats do be expating and also, trans rights xddd

Life

Speaking of trans rights, meeting up with the queer group for a “book club” tomorrow again, we’ll probably end up talking long hours ^^

Today, our colleague brought us his cooking, a recipe for guizhou chili crisps, very umami, and yep, they were ちょっと spicy, despite what the colleague said ^^

If any of you were curious about the taste, you’ve got the full recipe there ^^

Either way, jumping off to be able to rest up long before tomorrow, so hear from you (late) tomorrow!

a friend of a friend  said that there are certain… vietnamese jlpt websites which you can find quite easily which have all the past papers for the JLPT post-2010, which are much more useful because they’re actual past papers and match the content level much more. Probably (certainly) legally grey area… so I won’t link the website. But said friend thinks that they should be provided anyway so is morally okay with it.

I only just noticed this and it’s been in your last few too :joy: is there something specifically Canadian about the subtitles or should we brits be mortally offended? Hell maybe you’re secretly learning (Canadian) French on the side?! I would be entirely unsurprised if you have a whole other secret language learning thing going on. You and your many :spoon: :spoon: :spoon:

not in the priority list yet but one day hopefully xddd

My original idea was to have an Irish flag, as I used to live in Ireland to signify that I support their cause and they’re the actual English-speaking culture for me xdd

Of course, that was when the UK was off the board, and US was by what was happening on the continent over there ^^

Unfortunately, Irish is its own language (that I actually want to learn the basics of at one point in the future! Fáilte!), so that was out of the table, and I was left with like two countries-ish, Canada and Australia: I’ve never been to Australia and it’s hard for me to identify with their diverse culture, so I opted for Canada as a flag for now :eyes:

I know it could be a different language as well, but I’m probably unlikely to learn Canadian French for now, Toki Pona is more likely I feel like xdd

Just like some Gen Zs idealize Millennial lifestyle from a decade ago, I have this idealized image in my head of a country existing back in 2005 or something that used to be a very multi-national culture and one of the best places to live in, lights, skyscrapers, prosperity, snow, winter olympics in Vancouver, hockey, and of course that culture probably didn’t use to exist ever at all, but Pixar’s Turning Red has been very influential in me being able to visualize the image I’ve had of that country in the first place xddd

I prefer not to stan any country (except for Germany ofc :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:) but I really hope that one day Canada bounces back, so I’m ever just slowly supporting the mission of their soft power over the US and the UK to find out if that tiny change will affect anything in the world, and hey, people are asking :eyes: xddd

So I don’t know, maybe Canada rebounces one day, and when they grow too big then I’ll be like “nyeh colonial nation”, but I think of Canada as an English-speaking nation of choice these days, that’s my cognitive bias I have now ^^
