3 / 5 second rule

I was just watching a video where someone dropped food and said “3 second rule right?” In english with this subtitle Does anyone know if this phrase actually used in japanese? and if so is it 3 second? In Canada we always said 5 second rule.

Thanks!

Googled it and this came up.

In the section on variations it says

Someone asked me once if we have the 3-second rule in America, and when I told them it was 5 they looked at me like I was crazy. It could entirely depend on region/family, which I’d imagine goes for Western countries as well.

In Germany we also have the 3 seconds rule.

But that only works if you don’t own a 2 seconds dog

Sorry
