“We have collected a lot. Alright, we will put all this in a book.”
Thus, they completed the book called “Children’s and Household Tales”.

After the publication of their book, the Brothers Grimm rewrote it little by little and added newly collected stories.
“Brother, how about changing the sentences into easy ones to make it easier for children to read?”
“Fairy tales are everyone’s treasure. We have to write them down just as we heard them, as much as possible.”
“It’s just making it easy to understand, not making changes to the stories.”

“Alright. I leave it to you then, Wilhelm.”
“I wonder if there is anything else I should change?”
“What about cutting out the very scary stories and put in the funny stories?”
Such were the things the two discussed.

“Wouldn’t it be fun to include pictures as well?”
“If so, we will ask Ludwig.”
So it came to be that Ludwig, their youngest brother who had become a painter, joined them to draw the book illustrations.
In this way, the brothers joined forces to make “Children’s and Household Tales” a book enjoyed by everyone, from children to adults.

I think のる here is meant to be 載る and the illustrations are the subject of the main clause, not Ludwig. :v:

Wow, that’s really interesting, thanks for sharing!
I did not even know that there was no capitalization for nouns back in the day
Plus, I like how they use latin definitions for the words, as if that were the most natural thing to do (and probably it was among scholars at that time)…

Yes, I believe it was required for scholarly works to be written in Latin at that time. So other scholars could read it I guess (scholars in other countries also wrote in Latin).
