An update from the Escape from the Cold and Snowy Mountains Adventure Crew - we have survived and returned to tell the tale. Spoiler: it was

Well, we now have more experience with how long these clubs might last (5 weeks to 7 months 
), and some lessons about setting expectations (um… sorry I jumped the gun last autumn).
Here we are - and the question is:

At some point I will tag people (who expressed interest back in September) if they don’t make there way back. But in the first instance, let’s see who is still around and start discussing when we’d like to start the next adventure. I took a stab on timing options in the above poll, but please comment if you have other ideas.
Also, I’ve been the guide in the last 2 clubs solid for about a year and I was wondering if someone else would like to take on the role of captaining our next ocean-going adventure? I’d quite like to try on a crew t-shirt 
. And in general, I thought the club might be more sustainable long term if I continue organising votes etc from book to book here, but we take turns leading the adventures. It might be fun to see what someone else makes out of being guide/captain (you don’t have to do it as I did!). If there’s more than one person who’d like to guide, there are still plenty of books remaining so don’t be shy

Great! That should be plenty of time. The vote is trending toward 6 weeks anyway, and my vote depends on some planning I’m doing this week - also trending towards end March though
I started this tonight (adding things to renshuu) cuz why not! But realized adding pages/progress to natively is kind of impossible for this book 
(so adding total pages read - hmm not sure how else to even do that for this one)
Anyway, read through the end of “1” still have to read 2 and 3 and then to the first decision point. But hopefully will have some renshuu vocab/sentences built for those that might want to use them.

The way I do it for Harta (manga magazine) that I read out of order, is to just add roughly how many pages I read after a session. It doesn’t really matter if it’s not exact. For these books, after the first 4 sections, most sections are simply 2 pages, so you could just put in 2 pages per scene you read? Or 3 pages per decision, since there are 1-2 scenes per decision.
Anecdotally, just before stage Z in the last club, I estimated how many pages we must have read (based on # of stages) and approximate dead ends skipped, calculated the approximate page count, and thought, we must be done imminently… and that next scene was the end which was a relief so I didn’t have to decide which alphabet to continue with
Made it to the selection point. Forgot with the first jungle book how much doom, death, and gloom there was up to that first selection point. I didn’t read the snowy escape yet, but for now the ocean seemed like a good place to pick up the adventure again.
There are now (up to the first decision point) ~155 vocab words and ~43 sentences built into renshuu (for those that use it) in the community lists. Also don’t forget about the crosswords for your custom lists (sometimes they are fun!) Can be found if you go to your word schedule (for the custom vocab, think you need to be a paid user of renshuu), in any case they are here.

My book finally arrived so here in time for 22nd. I haven’t read one of these before in Japanese but have read similar books in English before so hoping it’s in a similar vein.

Weeb's Journey Part 1
I’m so silly, when I came to the large bold parts of text I was like wow it’s screaming at me in the middle of a chapter but no those are titles 
I’m so pleased when I can read a full sentence without looking anything up (in this case it was 森林の一番上の、太陽光を受ける部分)

Scene 3
I do enjoy learning random survival facts even if I’m never going to use them, like not making quick movements in quick sand. I feel like the jungle ones here are technically common sense but in an irl situation you’d probably forget all of it and panic. The hitting the ground with a stick in case of snakes is new though, I like that.
Decision Point 4
This is not an intuitive decision for me lol.
So for finding a cave my thoughts are that might be ideal but there could be predators chilling in the cave, and will I get to it before it gets dark? On the other hand if it rains in the night I won’t get soggy which is important although it’s not like during the day I’d have protection from that either so what’s the difference.
For making a lil tent, it probably won’t accomplish much exactly but at least it’d be quicker. Maybe I’ll make a little clearing so critters don’t feel inclined to squiggle out into the open and stay under the leaves. Definitely exposed, chances of soggy (not the user 
), if something attacks I can grab a tent stick and whack it!
I’m going to choose the tent for quickness reasons! 
(I see the club chose the cave I guess I’m already on a different path lmao) I guess I’ll see you on the other side

Edit: I’ve just had a thought, if I label my scene discussions by number anyone newly reading over would be able to see if the path I took led to survival or death because I’d either stop and say yay or I’d go back a number. Maybe I should use the letter stages even if they don’t align with the club?
