Simplicity, that could swing it thanks

I don’t think I’ll join the group reading, but I stumbled upon this post and immediately order the book.
It seems quite doable to read and it might just be my level.

Thanks for the sugestion

Im devouring this book.

I can’t get all the details, but very easy to fill the gaps from the context.

For example, I’ve never seen the word 獲物(えもの), but when it appears it clearly means “prey”!

I’m already thinking on which book will be next.

Do we have any suggestion on a next book?

I’m glad the thread helped you find these books! It’s part of a series of six books, which you can find by following the Amazon link and viewing the series. I’d suggest reading one of those next.

Welcome to Stage A of :palm_tree: :coconut: サバイバル・ゲーム! Book Club :coconut: :palm_tree:

I hope everyone is packed and ready to go! :hiking_boot::school_satchel:

I’ve updated the home post with a link to the vocab spreadsheet and a guide.

We expect to take 2 weeks for this stage - there are 12 pages of text up to the first decision point. Vote in this poll to show your participation. I recommend everyone reading along chooses the first option, as the group will move on once everyone joining live has voted in the decision poll, or latest on March 22. The second option is NOT for slower readers, it is just to signal, e.g., if you have a holiday and you might miss voting and don’t mind the group moving on faster/earlier without you. Of course, you can still vote in the decision point!

Participation

Are you joining Stage A?
  • I’m joining live, reading along - see you at the decision point!
  • I will catch up later - don’t wait for me
  • I’m exploring solo - don’t wait for me

Intro thoughts

Love the map! It gives a nice adventure feel right from the start! And good katakana reading practice :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Where would I put in vocab from the first two pages?

I mean these for reference

Oooh I also can’t edit? Should I write vocab as a comment or is it supposed to be open for edit?

On the Stage A sheet, for the page number I’d call that scene 1-1 and 1-2, if that also makes sense to anyone else!

Thanks so much for catching that! I had thought it was open for anyone to edit - that should be fixed now.

Hello! I just wanted to pop in here to say that I’m enjoying the book. It’s a Great read for learning several useful vocabulary words. I’m actively reading/learning, so it’s taking me more time to get through the pages.

Also, I can see that the vocab sheet is color-coded? Just a bit confused about that!

I’m glad you’re enjoying it!! I’m doing something similar. I read Scenes 1-4 through to get the gist, and now I’m going through a couple pages a day and I really like the style, how there is some header and bold text to guide you, and even some of the words they don’t expect a 3-4th grader to know are explained in parentheses. So it feels like there is enough to read it through extensively and get the drift, and then reading it with some lookups isn’t tough - so far it’s all vocab that is really useful and I like the descriptions.

I added some words to the spreadsheet through scene 2 yesterday - but I was on my tablet and it might have done something funny. Feel free to format it however it makes sense and remove any colors!

I love how atmospheric scene 2 is!

Here are some videos about the Amazon from NHK for School. I actually heard some of the words I learned from this stage!

@SpiderWeb I hope all is well on your end! I just wanted to tag you and let you know we started (here’s the link for the starting poll for Stage A, and I updated the home post with how we’re navigating). Join anytime. Even if you come back later, you could catch up according to the guide in the home post.

decision points thoughts...

So I feel like the build a tent option (#7) might be safer, but there could be snakes under those leaves! On the other hand, there could be all sorts of creatures in the cave (#5). But… knowing there is a cave, I want to know what is inside :eyes::volcano:

bwahaha this is so fun

decisions!!

Oh shoot I forgot to post my thoughts and just voted

I felt like we would need a base (building a tent) and rest a bit so we can discover even cooler things the next day when it’s bright outside and we have more energy :eyes: on the other hand, the cave could also be a potential base… Additionally, I wouldn’t be opposed to finding out what’s inside there :eyes:

Hi, I haven’t logged in for a little bit but I did see that there were new posts here a couple days ago. I may participate a bit sporadically I guess. I’m about halfway through stage A right now but I have seen the decision point from the preview images when the club started. So I just voted.

decisions decisions

I think the ||cave|| option is the safest(?!). It’s not a great idea to go there but it seems a little better than ||trying to build a tent out in the open||.

I hope I remembered how to do hide details right.

Cool, I’m glad you saw the posts! That’s fine to jump in sporadically, I was even hoping that the structure we’re using makes that possible since there are so many decision points.

Decisions

This may sound silly, but do we actually know how to build a tent?

I went for the cave option because I’m just too curious. Also, if the cave is risk-free, it may keep us safe from the rain. And if we somehow figure out how to light a fire, then the cave can also retain heat. Unless, of course, there’s a carnivore resting there.

Also, there may be a lot of rain in the forest, and we don’t want to deal with damp grounds. :snake: :ant:

More importantly, I like taking risks and may have the least chance of survival in situations like this, so I might as well quench my curiosity hehe
