These videos have actually been helping me a lot! I’m able to tell where each word starts and ends, I’ve gotten a grasp on the super easy grammar she uses, and it just feels nice to actually understand something. I actually do recommend this for other noobs like me

Stayed up way too late last night, so today is a shorter one. Going to bed early like a responsible individual.

Listened to episodes 16 - 18 of Sakura and Suzuki plus half of a video from Daily Japanese by Naoko. Got tired in the middle, so I wanna listen to the last half tomorrow!

I’ve only gotten to watch until the first two things she likes. Definitely can relate to both but especially the 2nd one… I always felt comfortable eating alone in Japan and it was affordable too. Doesn’t feel the same in any other country I go to. It’s also nice to know she lived in Spain for a while which is the other foreign language I’m working on.

狼と香辛料 Vol.1 (1:30-2:30/8h) Ch.2 end

Today I watched:

About strawberry picking! I could mostly follow along without too much trouble, it was just at the staff section that I got lost a little.

Perhaps I could also tell that they were indeed strawberries being picked if my internet had decided to work properly and not run the vid at the lowest quality possible.

Episodes 19 - 21 of Sakura and Suzuki and the last half of the video Daily Japanese with Naoko. Definitely love the stationeries in Japan!! I could get stuck in one for hours if nobody stops me. And that last point… I am so spoiled by that in both Korea and Japan that I always end up doing that in restaurants or cafes outside of those two countries… Thankfully, someone’s always there to tell me I can’t do that cause it isn’t safe.

New words
  • 声を大にする to strongly insist(?)
  • 便座「べんざ」toilet seat
  • 文房具「ぶんぼうぐ」stationery
  • 機能「きのう」function

I watched a Let’s Play stream from a new v-tuber based on someone’s recommendation. He’s very charismatic but he speaks sooo quickly  It’ll take me a while to get used to his speaking speed. I also started a new listening comprehension video, so I’ll give it a few minutes per day until I finish all of the questions. I think after this video is finished I’ll switch to N2 choukai.

Today’s video is:

General phrases and things you do before bed and waking up. I think I understood everything here, it helped that a lot of it was repeated.

omg, he’s hilarious! I really like the voice acting going on at 11:18 :joy:
Good thing there are subtitles in that let’s play, I get the impression he’s not mumbling too much (like Kanae), but that speed is no joke.

A bunch of very clear box checking just to keep the habit up listening to Shun while on my weekend trip, and then back into Japanese from Small Talk upon returning. Got another busy weekend coming up, so probably next weekend will look pretty similar.

Shun sounded a little… burnt out in these episodes? Maybe he had covid or something, or maybe I’m just getting surprised from going back to his pace. Anyway, after this weekend’s activity, I’m probably going to close the book on Shun’s podcast for my progress update, 131 episodes were enough and I’m onto more difficult material now. So I’ll probably mark it “done” after however much I listen to this weekend (if any, maybe I have more time and listen to some Japanese with Small Talk)

My teacher agreed for us to have a free talk session after the chapter we’re going through. She’ll give me a topic in order to let me look for vocabulary before our talk and be efficient on D-day. I’m very excited !

Halfway through the month already! If I had stuck with my original goal of finishing 60 hours this month, I’d be basically done with that goal already! I’m glad I decided to up the ante a bit, even if I am having to sacrifice a lot of other stuff in order to fit this much time in. It’s only for a month, which lowers my burnout risk a lot. I’ll hold off on saying too much about if I think my skills have improved or not until the end (but spoiler, yeah, i can feel it lol)

Listened:

  • チョコ作って一緒に食べよう~!【大神ミオ】 - 1:10 - mio chocolate making stream. This is a trope that comes up in a lot of romance manga, so it’s fun to see it in a kind of real form. She said it’s mostly a thing kids do, but I still think it’s kind of endearing. Even doing valentines stuff when I was back in school, it was all just “buy this bag of candy and some stock cards and write some names”, it always felt pretty impersonal (not to say japan doesn’t also have their 義理チョコ too). Even if they’re buying chocolate and just melting it down to to make it into new forms or adding some sprinkles, it adds a lil bit of human element that I think makes the 本命チョコ pretty cute
  • ボルダージャパンカップ2024(BJC2024)男子決勝 - 2:20 - japan boulder cup mens finals, I’m fully back on my climbing kick. Some devilishly hard problems, so very few tops in this finals, but that made all the tops way more exciting! Will probably watch the women’s finals tomorrow, that was a lot of announcer-speak to try to parse for one day
  • 【ROKDO】世界最高難易度のボルダーをマーブーで再現【Burden of Dreams】 - x - I watched this video about a japanese gym setting a replica of burden of dreams (the hardest boulder problem ever climbed), but I’m not counting it bc it had hard jp+english subs. I just want the yt algorithm to give me more climbing vids, and after his challenge is over i will care a lot less about whether something has english subs or not  If i really really care i can use a box to block the english part, or something

Listened to another Daily Japanese with Naoko video about the weather. Thanks again for the recommendation @Zakarius ! I could follow easily because of her visual aids and clear explanation, but also took note of a few new vocabulary.

  • ちなみに by the way; in this connection; incidentally; in passing
  • 現在「げんざい」now; current; present; present time; as of
  • 日の入り「ひのいり」sunset (already learned the word for sunrise before so I don’t know why I was suprised to see this. I guess I just realized how weird it is that it wouldn’t be the opposite as in 日の出 for when the sun is exiting one’s sight/vision and 日の入り for when the sun is entering one’s sight/vision…)
  • かみなり thunder
  • 降水確率「こうすいかくりつ」chance of precipitation; chance of rain
