キー坊の翔
野球でも黄帽は外せない。

I don’t get what 翔’s thing is…

What does キー坊 mean? I can’t find anything about it other than it seems to be a nickname and a google search shows a Doraemon character. Saying it out loud makes me realize キー帽 and 黄帽 are both pronounced きいぼう, so is it just that キー坊 is his nickname that comes from 黄帽?

And does 黄帽 refer to his hat or his eye mask? Because it makes more sense that he’d be talking about the mask, but 帽 means hat/cap, so I’m not sure.

帽 is defined as “頭にかぶる物” and seems to refer to only hats (although glasses use かける don’t they), but you do wear caps while playing baseball, so it doesn’t make sense for his hat to be what he wears “even while playing baseball”? Especially since this isn’t a game where they wear uniforms and thus he’d be required to wear a certain one. But he is touching the visor of his cap as he says it so it probably is the hat?? It would make more sense if it was the goggles though… Unless they’re connected to the hat??? It doesn’t seem like they’ve got anything to keep them on his face elsewise

(well, I’m assuming the mask is goggles of some sort and he can actually see through it, but, hm)

黄帽 is read こうぼう, but the キー could possibly still tie into the kun reading of 黄. I’m thinking 黄ぃ坊 a.k.a. 黄の坊

This was what I was thinking too which was another reason I was confused. Before I noticed the mask (goggles?) I was like, what do you mean “even when playing baseball”? That’s a perfectly normal time to wear a hat like that? So that’s another reason I thought it was the mask. But then like you said, he’s touching the hat and using the word 帽.

OH that would actually make a lot more sense! I don’t think I’ve seen a hat like that before so I didn’t even think about them being connected. I’m going to assume that’s what’s going on here.

lmao I was thinking of it as some sort of sleep mask thingy :sob: I was like, buddy how can you even see the ball?!

Ah I didn’t realize it was usually read like that, I was combining the kun and on (and then also forgot the kun of 黄 is き and not きい). But I guess I still came to the right conclusion with キー coming from 黄 based on what you said.

I think his is unique. Until or unless we get evidence otherwise, I’m choosing to believe he has some sort of photosensitivity and that’s what he wears to mitigate it

Though when image-searching 帽 to double check that it is solely for hats, I did see these sun visors that sort of have a double visor, which I also had never seen before:

Granted, it’s just flaps on each side, but the way they connect kinda makes it look like it’s got two lol

Gaah, I haven’t even started. Ok, two pages in actually. Unfortunately I had to drop reading time significantly right before we started but I think I’m about to get my head above the water and 極主夫道 is always the first thing I pick back up. I love it so much :dragon:

No problem! I’m a bit behind myself :sweat_smile: I haven’t been reading much lately either, like you 極主夫道 is my first thing I pick back up (I find it easy to get back into) and right now it’s basically the only thing I’m actually reading
