The deer have been spooked and left but where they were heading ate puddles of water!

We’re so thirsty, this is perfect. The water looks clean, but we resist going it down and decide to boil it as usual. Standing water… where the deer were hanging out, could be gross bacteria in there

Go to the lake and take a swim? no it’s much too cold for that. We’ll just drink water. I swear I’ve seen this choice before. Are we back near the end of the book?
Well, Santa did not find us out here The grand view of the mountain range doesn’t make us feel better. On the contrary, we’re feeling lonely and small, and tired Perhaps a bit disoriented - it feels like we’ve been wandering in circles. Luckily, a large clear lake catches our attention, now that looks inviting! This could be a good source of fish and water… we decide to make our way down. Hopefully everyone makes it

I’m starting to get cold feet on the fishing thing
my overwhelming memories of fishing (irl with a pole) are of catching… nothing. My whole childhood, we probably went fishing on every camping trip (several times a summer), and I think once I caught something so small my dad threw it back in. The other thing is - those memories are all from the summer. When it’s warm. When standing around for ages and getting wet near the water isn’t a catastrophe.
And now it’s freezing cold, and we don’t have a pole. So did I miss something or is there a plan? because if we don’t have a pole with a hook, I’m thinking I’ll pass on the fishing because I can’t imagine standing in the water long enough for a fish to come close enough to what - grab it? Those things are slippery! That said, I’m super curious how that route goes, so I’d be totally happy if we go there
I feel a bit silly now, coming all this way thinking of fish and then being like, oh yeah, how do we get it out of the water
PS
Did you all know about flamingos in the Andes??? wow
That’s what I’m super curious about so I hesitated before making my comments because deep down I want to see what our hero comes up with. And then my 12 year old self gets in a huff and is like, no but it’s hard
I think these books let us hand wave the hard parts of survival where you need mechanical and procedural know how to do the hard things as long as we’re making the right choices. Maybe we’ll sharpen a stick and go spear fishing or something? So actually surviving like this would be way harder than the book shows because fishing is hard, but I think if we try fishing here we’ll catch something.
We arrive at the lake to find a winter fantasy landscape - crystal clear water and a flock of… … that’s right pink flamingos! The largest you have ever seen. Alright, we came to fish, let’s get to it!

I was pretty indecisive about this one because both options sounded dangerous, so I read the info scene 94 to see if we had more information about the water temperature. It turns out it is freezing cold, so we might as well dry the clothes first?
