I’ve been a little behind, I got the chance to play a survival game irl with the big storm. Not in any real danger, but no power for a few days.
decision
I also vote to make a place to rest. It’s good we’re not in that avalanche. When it started describing the snowfall, I thought we were at a game over but I guess it’s elsewhere on the mountain.
We turn away from the smooth patch of snow, and head off in the other direction. At the sound of a low rumbling in the background, we turn around and see the snow on the slow appears to be sliding. In the blink of an eye, it collapses into a cloud of snow. Phew, we narrowly missed getting torn down the mountain in an avalanche. A bit dazed, some of us stand staring into the shockingly reconfigured landscape, while others continue off in the other direction. After a while, we notice it’ll be dusk soon.
Time to regroup and make camp. See you at

The cave feels like something that probably already has an inhabitant, and we don’t want to delay finding somewhere suitable for the night. On the other hand - half an hour to get to the grove?!
I’m leaning toward the grove but I’m not convinced…
Uh oh, no one’s voted! On the one hand, the book seems to be warning us that there might be something in the hole. On the other hand, anything could happen during that 30 minute walk, and it’s getting dark…
I’m also confused this time, but I don’t want to go to the cave. Not a logical reason, but I’m terrified of nocturnal animals like bats and opossums, so I’d rather walk to find some other shelter.
Anyways, some animals may be hunting at night, so both options seem risky lol.
Hmmm… I’m going with you on this. The walk might take a while, but the cave feels likely to have bigger wildlife issues. As a bonus @prath doesn’t have to confront the opossum of doom
I didn’t like either option very much here. Being outside at dark on the way to the forests sounds bad, but not as bad as hiding in the potentially inhabited hole.
Into the woods, the woods are just trees, the trees are just wood, and be home before dark.
I’ve been watching Kaho’s (mountain climbing youtuber) video series on climbing mt. Denali in Alaska, and I keep getting reminded of this book. Here’s the first video where she’s actually on the mountain (previous video is all about her arrival to america etc)
In one of the videos, they go to make camp on a flat snowy area and the guide is checking with a pole for crevasses. Once he makes a perimeter they’re not supposed to walk past it. I was like, wow, just like that last stage of survival escape game where we chose not to walk across the suspicious flat snow!
We look around for an opportunity to make camp, there’s an opening in some rocks we check out, but it’s dark and feels a bit risky. What else hangs around here?
We spot a grove of trees and decide to head over there instead, see you at

Hmm, this one’s tough. We should start a fire, but it’d be hard. Best not to do it
Of course you make the fire, but I’m a little impressed that it’s as easy as deciding to do it. Finding dry wood and kindling and getting it started is hard. I don’t think we have a lighter in our inventory either. From experience, getting a fire started even in good conditions is hard. If the woods wet or thick enough, even gas barely helps.
I straggled a little, but I got my vote in. I gotta admit I’ve been slacking on my Japanese recently so this page took me a bit to get back to. It’s not that hard but I just hadn’t kept up.
Thankfully the grove was closer than we thought we make a makeshift tent and peer our into the rapidly darkening sky. It sure is cold… and a tea would be nice
We pull ourselves together. 火を起こそう! it’s gonna take some effort, let’s hope we are prepared
