🍁 Fall Equinox 24-hour Readathon

@taiyousea I’ll let you do the total :stuck_out_tongue: (even though in my case it’s not too hard, my numbers + 0 :joy: )

Congrats! Those numbers are amazing, we’re off to a really strong start  :books: :tada: First finisher and first one on the results board! Thank you for reading with me ^^

I thought about trying today, then early on my VN hit a long section where the presentation changed to reading message board posts and none of that was captured by the test hooker, so that was a ton of characters I can’t track. Hopefully Monday will work out a bit better? :sob:

35 minute session for 9 pages of ふしぎ駄菓子屋。 I’m at my halfway point of 2 1/2 hours, and I think I might actually take a nap and resume later.

Ended up starting early because I have plans tomorrow!
Finished Hananoi in my first reading session + another random freebie on bookwalker that I wasn’t planning to read but the cover enticed me.
Now I’m taking a break to eat and stretch and do human things, and then I’ll return to reading skip beat!

That’s 2 hours so far.

Ok, change of plans, been thinking about it and Steins;Gate is likely to just do that to me again. It’s also gonna be hard to do a ton of because it’s so full of science explanations – reading about time dilation, Menger Sponges, on and on, that sort of thing is tiring even without the language difficulty. I’m committed to trying this Monday, picked up a novel on the easier side: 私の夫は冷凍庫に眠っている | L28 and I’m going to see how much of it I manage to read that day

Procrastinating on life stuff by reading Japanese instead sounds like a great idea, let’s try this :dizzy:

I’ll be reading 方舟 | L32 - mystery seems like a good choice for some binge reading.
I wish I could make it my goal to finish the book, but unfortunately I have 93% of it left, even with the audiobook to read along with that does not seem feasible
I think I’m gonna attempt 50k characters instead.

Starting position: 9920 characters in

Happy reading :sparkles:

Seems like a fun challenge I will join but I’m not sure how much I will be able to read within 24 hours.

Yay, I’m glad you’re joining! We’re putting all of our reading achievements together as a community effort, so even a few minutes or pages of reading helps boost our numbers ^^

Starting my day now! I’ve found a comfy hammock outside to set up camp for a bit. Gonna get started with おいしいごはんが食べられますように

ゆるキャン△ volume 1 :white_check_mark:

Not as much 関西弁 as I feared, but also not as much as I hoped in this volume  Still slow going, but it’s a series that deserves a lil savoring

Alright, back to reading :open_book:. I don’t think I’ll finish the whole volume today because I’m just very slow and my eyes hurt a lot today, but I’ll contribute the hours at least hehe.

よつばと!12 :white_check_mark:

Still love this series, maybe even more now. I did remember the right volume for the fall theme, too! I’ll have to go back and re-read it all at some point, but for now it was a nice comfy treat :jack_o_lantern:

+220 pages, + 1 hour 10 minutes (Total: 400 pages, 3:20)

Time for a dinner break, and then maybe something harder before bed (why did I pick two series with delicious food in them to read so late in my day…)

35 minute reading session +4 pgs ハリーポッターと賢者の石。I get occasionally slowed down with kanji lookups. Also I’m doubting whether I will make it to 5 hours at this rate because I’m about to stop for dinner.

@taiyousea do we have to update the math or just add ourselves to the list? I think I will kill the math otherwise…

Haha you can update the “totals” math yourself, but if you’d rather not then I can do it ^^

I’ll double-check the numbers at the end to make sure we didn’t accidentally count something more than once but I trust you guys to add up time/pages/etc

edit: 4 more hours added?! :scream: i’m in awe!! :tada:

I’ll be starting my readathon day today, as of Saturday morning Japan time. After I eat my breakfast, I plan to read some of この嘘がばれないうちに, since I finished my other book last week. I read a small amount earlier this week, about 22 pages, and it’s very easy so far, so I should hopefully be able to do a lot today. I don’t have any specific goals, but I will probably only count pages and not time spent. Happy reading everyone!

東方茨歌仙~Wild and Horned Hermit :white_check_mark:

Someone recently graded this on natively, but only graded it against other 東方 series… so it ended up being dropped to a 21?? which is insane. This is like, minimum 29, and likely harder. I’m not counting it below 29, no matter what the algorithm says (also, likely no one else is gonna read it for a while ) It’s one of those books where I can read the words on the page and know what they mean but still not be sure if I am actually getting what is supposed to be being said. One chapter was a lil easier today, but the other one was about 治水 and a secret plan to build a dam.

+50 pages +40 minutes (Total: 450 pages, 4 hours)

I had to go see this for myself skull2 it looks like it was rated easier than a L23 manga which can’t be right unless the other one is also egregiously under-level omg

The little gremlin that lives in my head told me to accept this challenge :man_standing:

It is probably the easiest touhou manga… but that’s not saying much for a series with as much religious vocab, fake chuuni magic names, and extremely dry humor as touhou does. Especially since the writing kinda expects you to already be familiar with the characterization of many of the mainline characters from the games. I can’t do any more gradings, but the most comparable series I have to it are 蟲師 (29) and the 化物語 manga (31), both for similar reasons.
