🍁 Fall Equinox 24-hour Readathon

My long johns are ready. Does my laptop need a coat? It’s quite chilly out…

I’ll aim to start sometime late Friday night. (Don’t hold me to that though I’m very flaky.) My only set goals are:
Read the last chapter of 鋼の錬金術師 vol 1
Read ゆるキャン vol 1

Other than those I’ll just read whatever and however much I feel like. I have some manga volumes ranging from level 20~24, plus Kiki and JJK.

I’ll be coming in with the wheels spinning on Monday. Mom’s having surgery tomorrow while I’m at work so I’ll be a little busy with work and helping her after the surgery, but come Monday there should be plenty of time for me to put my eyes through the kanji machine.

Hoping to finish what’s left of 変な家 (house is weird bro) since I’m behind on the club, and if I do that and have time left, I’ll do the rest of chibi book 3. I read the first third of it in the summer readathon then there was a cliffhanger chapter or two and the rest should be downward action now that they found the little girl in the grandfather clock . Looking forward to a significant shift in tone between these two books but from what I understand 人身売買 comes up in both :scream:.

Alright I’m starting  looks like Friday (today) is the only day where I will have some time. I think I will have at least 6 hours! The plan is to spend them all on reading マスカレード・ホテル, unless my brain fries before, we’ll see
Anyone else starting today?

folktales fushigi 2 hp naruto

1 hour reading
2 hours reading
3 hours reading
4 hours reading
5 hours reading

It’s Friday morning and I’ve gathered up all my reading materials! I think I’ll give myself a variety of materials to work with so I don’t get bored. This Japanese Folktales for Language Learners book has been languishing in my currently reading for months so I think I’ll use the stories as little breaks between other reads and try to make some progress on that. My goal is 5 hours reading!

Last year’s stats: 13 pages in 2 and a half hours

Oh I love your home post idea with the pictures and the check boxes
Still going well here, 2 hours and a half, 30 pages read!

So far I’ve just done 20 minutes (1 folktale/3pgs), because then I had to stop and walk my dog, then I got distracted because a package (with more Japanese books) came in haha. Luckily I’ve started early in the day so I have plenty of time for breaks.

2nd reading session was 40 minutes with 11 pages read from ふしぎ駄菓子屋 ! First hour goal completed! Last time it took me 2 and a half hours to read almost the same amount of pages from ふしぎ駄菓子屋, I guess I’ve improved. :slightly_smiling_face: :candy:

Time for a break!

Oh that’s really cool!
(Insert meme here)
Comparing yourself to others → nope,
Comparing yourself to yourself from the past after you’ve studied a lot → oh yeah

15 minutes for reading 1 folk tale (3 pgs) later, and it’s lunch time! Might head to the store to get some snacks for the afternoon’s reading as well. :running_man:

The last folktale was the haunted canal :ghost: :ocean: and this one was the tongue-cut sparrow. :bird: I’ve been reading these ones aloud which is perfect for folktales.

Took a nice nap and I’m gonna start my 24 hours here at noon (18utc). Prepping some snacks and drinks and doing a lil cleaning first so I have less to distract myself with

kobayashi-drinking

Pulled out the physicals that I’d like to finish today!

Decided to throw the touhou one back in the mix since it’s been half done since the last challenge, and I did decide to go with the fall/halloween yotsuba for the :fallen_leaf: vibes

Going to start my last session here I think, my brain usually turns off around 9pm and that’s in about twenty minutes… Just starting a new chapter and it’s 23 pages long so needless to say I don’t think I’ll finish it today!

@javerend joins the party!

Ate lunch and had a 40 minute session with 45 pgs read from Naruto vol. 4. This volume started right with the action!

It’s still hot here in the afternoons (about 90F) so I think I’m going to retreat inside for the next reading session.

First update!

I was waiting for some lunch to cook in the oven, so wanted to read something quick, and also check off my intensive reading box for the day! Did my daily SKM practice reading, but not gonna count it for pages or characters because it’s a very different style of close reading/active thinking/checking answers/rereading than I normally do

mitrac’s :fallen_leaf: autumn equinox home post

I’m participating Saturday EU time and will try to finish my Prefectures book. Like last time I’m reading a “barely interesting enough to continue and I own it so I guess i should finish it” kinda book because the challenge will motivate me to finally finish it off more quickly!

Session 1
35 min - 6 pages - 1200 characters - 1 source

Session 2 - I tried something new
VN 月の光 2400 characters

I did one more page of my Prefectures book but was super tired today and didn’t continue

Total
60 min 7 pages 4k characters 2 sources

Alright I’m calling it a day! So I’m the first finisher I guess!

My results:

Start page Stop page Start time Stop time
272 282 14:10 15:10
282 291 15:20 16:00
291 302 16:40 17:30
302 311 18:55 19:45
311 318 19:55 20:30
318 326 20:40 21:20

So that’s a total of 4 hours and 35 minutes and 54 pages read! Didn’t quite reach the 6 hours, took a lot of breaks, but whenever I was reading I was doing only that so I’m pretty happy with that!

Thank you for the idea and for organizing @taiyousea, that was a lot of fun
Have fun everyone else!!
